chiefgrooveguru – thanks for that, I wasnt sure it worked like that. Thats really good to know. Dont think I have 18mm to play with, like you say.

oreetmon – you might be right. I used copter tape under the shifters and brake levers so if I have to sell the bars they’ll be in pristine condition. Took ages to swap em over. Think I should give em another go maybe.

There seems to be very limited Mid-Rise carbon bars out there, loads of lo or high rise.

well lets hope I get it soon. A little knowledge is proving dangerous and expensive 🙁

mmmm interesting was the finish on the easton completely matt? I know the Ritchey is pretty glossy isnt it? That might be the only thing that separates them for me.

Nothing to seperate them then? Isnt the size difference noticeable?

Not really sure, it was more a rooty snaking gully where pretty much anything could have been sticking out.

I dont expect tyres to last forever and to be fair Im suprised my Intense tyres last so long with what they went through.
But I was asking the question if I was just super unlucky or are have a few others experienced maybe simpilar.

Its just good to know before I have to splash out again.

Think I’ll replace just the one with a snakeskin walled version if they are a lot better then.
How do they compare weight wise then to the Evo?

    Stevo210

I must say up around Gisburn, they were incredible and I was more than suitably impressed but I can afford to replace them at that rate.
Ran a set of Intense 404 for nearly a year through everything. Weighed as much as a house though.

Are the snakeskins a lot stronger, not sure how you would quantify that?

SC-XC Some might say fundemental and I would agree, only human 🙁

    Lend me a 70mm Stem, I’ll be gentle 🙁

Ive found the ‘Copter Tape’ from http://www.justridingalong.co.uk to be the best for me. Thicker that biketart and went on way easier in my experience.

Only in gloss though. can see a purchase from Paragon coming on as they do Matt tape too.

vinneyeh, thanks for that. I can see the logic in that for sure. I was going for super light bars and hadn’t really thought of the width as a massive difference from 685mm

Thanks for your experiences mboy, its way too difficult to come to a definitive answer.
I’ll have to buy a 70mm and if its a nightmare lose on swapping it later.

745+ haha we have trees here.

I really need to try one and see what happens…….guessing nobody’s got one knocking about eh?

Thanks guys should add really that I have a set of Carbon bars that are 660 replacing 685mm.
Think that’ll through up a few things maybe.

Brant – wouldn’t say Im doing the arms totally straight, but I feel more comfortable in a ‘slightly Stretched out style’ but I find it a little awkward clearing my seat comfortably (wedding veg) on the decents.

I have a layback post due to the riding position I mentioned but, maybe this and a shorter stem may put my weight too far back as you suggested.

Which makes me ask whether it is possible, scientifically to be measure for a mountain bike.
I get told, if it feels right it probably is. But Im sure if like me I don’t really know what Im looking for, how do you know…….?…..you can get off after a ride and you’re not crippled with back pain? 🙁

I’d like to borrow a shoter stem, to give it a go before i splash out on a nice lightweight one. Put a thread in wanted but haven’t heard anything for a few days.

I’ll have a search for that article.

    Any more thoughts?

Anyone gone shorter to 70mm and wish they hadn’t?

Twitchyness, now theres a side effect on its own surely.

mmmmmm never thought of the ‘over the bars feeling’ and lifting the front on a climb, I have issues of it lifting already, maybe 70mm isnt the way to go.

Try Marsden Moor, back down in to Marsden. Mix of fast singletrack, drop-offs from water erosion and crazy bogs that will eat yer bike and you if you aint quick enough. 🙂

Dont get the wrong impression of me, I aint rolling in it just like to bling the bike up a little if I can.Ive had the bike 18months and havent needed to spend a penny on it, but now it has been to my detriment.
Will definitely have to invest in a chain devise and keep my eye on the components there after.

mmm that is pretty. Might be worth dropping them an email to see what the release dates are looking like.

well I was naive about the whole chain/drivechain wear till I recently bought a new chain. When it kept skipping off the cassette I was advised on here that it wasnt the new chains fault but my cassette, jockey wheels and front middle ring.
So while I have to replace I thought lets go as light as I possible can justify.
I have a pair of Hope Pro2’s Evo/Crest Hoops on order so it’ll be nice to pair it up with a new light cassette.
Guessing the hope hub and cassette all in one will be expensive.

It may be light but definitely don’t like the look of that.

haha, I’m not going to admit to the spreadsheet, thats not to say I dont have one, but its the only way to make any impact on weight saving.

The KCNC’s look super bling but I didnt know they didnt perform too well. Thats the last thing you want.

Does the XTR shift well and perform reliably?

I would use them, but I was hoping for something with stronger side walls, have managed to get a couple of nasty nicks on my nobby nics 🙂 and had a couple of pinch flats already.
Thought that a proper tubeless tyre would have stronger/thicker walls.

Any one know the answer to this. Which Nobby’s are suitable?
