Just a bit of a push up as entries open tonight @ midnight. After last year ending up running the finish i can safely say it’s preferable to actually do the event – normally 5hrs for me vs about 14hrs on the day….

Your local TK Maxx may have some Sugoi Firewall GT’s at £20, got some yesterday incase we have a cold snap…. not cold enough yet to use them here in the Isle of Man…..

done it 4 times – great event even if you have to pay for a tee (if you really want one) – you could always try the 10@ LLandegla if you’re a southerner too. a “10” for me involves 2 4 hour boat trips + 4 hour van drives. Great atmosphere and a fairly chilled crowd racing.

oh, and my mate has done it solo 2 or 3 times and been really pleased. our other mate Kale is a classy racer and was 4th 2 years ago, and managed 7th last year on his Remedy since his race bike had self destructed the day before. Race as much as you like, at whatever pace takes your fancy. You won’t be the only solo having a go by any means…

out tonight for the first “proper” ride in 9 weeks…. several of the people out had ridden the End2End on Sunday (whereas i’d spent 13 hours behind the scenes on Sunday). Gorgeous night on the Isle of Man – starry night sky over South Barrule when we got back

got a mk5 Joystick – 3* diablo burn time and never felt underlit even on the medium setting, so i would think the mk6 will be brighter for longer

sketchy, woods, yep thats Arrasey. New “dry” route promised through (last year was quite bad, 2yrs ago mark cavendish’s dad broke his ankle at the top of Arrasey) but apparently the tape has blown away because of the recent strong gales….

it’s probably going to be soft in Arrasey, so a mud tyre may be useful… Mud x’s or Storm Controls, but you may well get away with something less knobbly for the rest of the route…i used Speed Kings for a few years, and Nobby Nics last year with no worries

oh, and not partaking this year but will be driving your clean spare kit from start to finish so say hello!!

i miss MTB Pro – i think it & ST are pretty similar in “feel” – had to bin my old Pro copies after a house move in 98…:( . i keep all the ST copies i have since 2003. Found the mag, met Chipps when he came over to the Isle of Man for the Polaris, found out about Dirt Rag too , and subscribe to that… What i like about both DR and ST is that they go beyond WMB/MBR who are “of the moment’. Don’t keep them more than a couple of months before recycling. Meant to cancel my mBR sub about 9 years ago – just inertia really that stops me cancelling it.

i like that i can pick up an old ST and still find it worth rereading – and often being surprised how old the issue is, especially when the clean subs copy doesn’t date it as much…

    long may it continue..

i can’t see the results – all i get tis the pre event video & who’s coming….. Not that i was a podium rider.

Did everyone else try the spitroast, sorry i mean hogroast…… best commentator moment of the day….

Thought that whilst overall the course was good, and it contained all my fave bits there is too much doubletrack/road slipping in. Each year there seems to be a bit more. This year the road climb bit seemed pointless. Why not stick with the original trail? Why go up a road, along firetrack, and then come down to drag loads of mud onto the existing trail? As posters have said there was no issue with passing generally; i certainly let as many fast riders passed as i was freely able to pass others.

i’ve done this 4 years now, and love the event though i’ll never bother the winners!!

was going to enter till on mentioning it casually to Mrs O was reminded somewhat forcefully that she’s 50 that day and any thoughts of being on the other side of the country riding a bike race were “grounds for murder”…. so now i’m not….

trail quest is very popular on the isle of man – most local faces turn up – Graham Hughes organises good runs which are well supported by a wide age range from generations/families to the more mature. good fun and enough of a challenge for all abilities – even the best riders can make a bum choice depending on the weather. biggest surprise was when some “random” Kiwis slaughtered a 5hr course in 3 hours, went to get the Ferry & turned out to be World adventure race champs who happened to turn up on the spur of the moment when visiting mates…

i can’t do the next 5hr one as i’m doing the 10@KT again . Bit disappointed but there you go. Maybe its just a collective mindset? Far prefer them to racing (as do most vie spoken to @ events)

its alright as long as you’re not stuck in an office in Douglas all week because you’re off to Canada for month in August and feel duty bound to stay and provide cover.

Seriously come over (and don’t forget ITV 4 coverage @ 9….) enjoy the atmosphere, the bikes and bring an MTB to enjoy our ace pacey trails on non race days, or access the best viewing spots by bikes…

oh, and watch the TT3D film if you can find it – its ace. Spent Saturday watching the helicopters chasing the big boys around from my garden above the Quarterbridge turn…

oh, and he’s apparently doing the local Longest Day Longest Ride 24hr event on the 18th/19th (if he doesn’t kill himself trying to win….)

ps seen TT3d? – its ace but if you can’t take GM don’t bother as he’s in it a lot as counterpart to Hutchies measured professionalism
