Lots of mis-information on this thread

    1) Nicotine is addictive … yes but it’s actually not that addictive by itself. The effect and addictive parts are hugely enhanced by at least 2 other components that come from burning tobacco

    2) Nicotine is toxic.. well yes it is… it’s a toxin like caffeine and you wouldn’t want either in significant quantities on your skin or elsewhere but a typical vaping fluid is only a few percent…
Lots of things are toxic – indeed almost anything in sufficient quantity…

    3) Non smokers are nicotine free … not unless they don’t eat any of the nightshade family including potatoes and tomatoes… both contain nicotine

    3) Significant nicotine is exhaled….significant can be couched in the above.. are people getting MORE nicotine than eating a packet of crisps or a tomato sauce???
The only viable published study published results and had panic, not on nictotine but on aluminium oxides….
What is really significant is questions were asked where this came from as it wasn’t possible from the vaping…
After much ado it was discovered a test subject had used a spray deodorant before the testing….

The point is at the levels of detection no significant nicotine can be detected in the passive groups blood…. even when locked in a small closed room where the detection limits show that deodorant used hours before IS

It’s vapour NOT particulates … so what is inhaled stays in the “vaper” unlike cigarette smoke….and what isn’t is not really significant in terms of do they get more than a tomato salad…

The idea of absolute proof of “no harm” isn’t possible but it’s like saying I might die because I get hit by a recumbent cycle someone buys at the other end of the UK…. I can’t prove it won’t be resold to someone local and I can’t prove that one day I won’t be crossing the road and ….

but the argument we should then ban all recumbent’s isn’t being made

For years using a CD player or laptop on a plane was POSSIBLY going to cause it to crash … using a phone in a hospital may POSSIBLY cause all the life support to stop working …. a mobile phone is POSSIBLY going to ignite petrol vapour better than a spark plug (of which most cars have at least 4)… etc etc.

Another hour before the boy got distracted and wanted to play on his iPad. Not quite the father and son build experience I was hoping for but what can you do.

It’s normal… or actually you did exceptionally. Most primary schools wouldn’t even TRY and keep a kids attention for a whole hour! (OH is a primary teacher)

If you want to keep a kids attention longer then you need to create an addiction to something, dopamine works great… which is exactly what game designers do… visual straight through to the reptilian brain and instant dopamine rewards… I say this as I was already worrying about my kids behaviour around the iPad… then I saw a video (not about kids but millennials in the workplace) and it all makes sense…

Sorry no answers except limiting use of iPad’s etc. but it’s worth watching

But on the original point…. been there and done it and that’s just their attention span – it feels disappointing but 1 hour is actually really good!

187 grams and £15 and the Kevlar really seems to work …. the fact it hasn’t torn in a year is amazing given the number of crashes…

Obviously I’m now looking for a light carbon seatpost to knock that last 100g off!

I don’t know about you but I don’t trust my kid with QR and carbon seatposts! Way too much chance of him over tightening..and crack!

We went Titanium … I think we paid £20+ post… as someone had cut it short it didn’t go for much on eBay :D and it was the right length for us so saved me cutting it.

Most cheaper carbon seatposts weigh more that a full Ti anyway as the weight isn’t in the tube but the (usually steel) clamps and bolts at the top…

As others have said … anything modern.
I’m not sure I’d pay more for a SSD unless I had reason to need the speed/extended battery.

We got a deal for Curry’s (based on price) for the OH in Jan sales… does what it is meant to which is basically your list.

As it happens I’m typing this on a 8 core monster desktop/tower… but that is used for work and I work in computer modelling where it matters (plus this was a hand-me-down from a mate)…. If I was doing video editing or heavy photo processing I’d use this rig… but basic office/internet etc. makes no odds. It’s just this is connected to the TV… In 10 mins I’ll be on my work laptop which is lower spec than most you’d buy today… with the video output back on this TV…

I have some cheap old cranks ready for shortening (already got the drill/taps) just need to get round to actually doing it. And a 30t N/W ring…

Just do it …. it’s actually 30 minutes at a leisurely work pace…
The first pair I did took much longer but really only because I’d decided this was much harder than it is.

Just drill really slowly…. or the alloy melts.(and you don’t want that on the last drill).. and the last (13mm) is tricky when its comes out but I just clamped the cranks to a piece of spare wood

How deeply held is the opinion that their first 24″ bike should have discs?

It probably depends where you live and what you ride.
For me it was very important as I hate hearing a slightly off wheel rub pads and our local trails are made of abrasive powder (sand) with glue..(really sticky mud) .. as the single track got more serious it was a constant battle to keep the wheels true and clearance for the rim brakes and adjust the lever pull… (and taking the wheel off meant undoing the cable or deflating the wheel anyway)
His riding has just got more and more serious of course you never know before hand…but its not something you can easily change later without a wheel rebuild and some way to attach them to the frame.

In retrospect … absolutely in our location and riding!

On two different bikes with a 40T expander I never had an issue with the b-screw although it is all the way in or nearly… so it’s worth checking first if the 10 speed rear mech works OK. I’m sure on some bikes it’s just passed but worth trying before spending on the 11 speed rear mech.

By the time you mess with cabling and olives it might be as cheap to just add a M685 caliper as well ??? (Assuming you already have the levers)

Unless you want a lot of speed and hence a big chainwheel or have a adventure bike with camping stuff you want to run 1xyou might question if you need a 46T at all.

I’ve got a 30/32 oval front on my trail bike with 11-42 11speed and a 30T NW and a 12-40 on my XC bike (both are 27.5 wheels)

On any serious single track: The trailbike has 2.6 tyres and the front lifts if I really stomp on it but have grip in 1st and the XC bike has 2.1’s and the rear wheel slips.

Its honestly hard to imagine needing an easier 1st gear …. on 27.5 wheels

I’m also to be honest a bit underwhelmed by the 1×11 compared to the previous 1×10 with a 40T expander…. and for me probably not worth the money (cassette, rear mech, chain and shifters having got i-spec B to retain the M780 brakes)

Don’t get me wrong… nothing WRONG with it but £££/improvement is IMHO not great….

No showers but HUGE unheated bath if you’re feeling tough :D
    (Reservoir)

Agree with Martin that Horton baths is probably easiest… or you could go down to Clitheroe to baths then eat… then go up the A59 a bit longer distance but plenty of choice in Clitheroe for food…

Unless your cleaning the bike this isn’t such a big deal really….
Seems to happen when rear cog is bigger than chainwheel as the chainwheel is acting like a rear mech….

If you are really fussed using a SRAM chain can fix/alleviate but I found in practice it’s more annoying knowing it’s happening than detrimental to riding.

I have a real light down jacket that came from a 3-in-1 .. the outer waterproof died years ago but the down is still used….

What makes it so useful is actually no pockets etc. so it will compress into a ziplock sandwich bag

Anything above -5C I’d not wear it riding or skiing but keep it in a bag and take out when stopped…. it’s great knowing it’s in the bag and a decade ago when a friend had a serious injury way way off piste skiing might well have been a life saver…

When its really cold I have a huge Northface but I find I use the small liner fleece more… fits under a softshell and over fleeces…I tend to have pockets in the fleeces or softshell so this works well and as someopne mentioned lightness and durability… the softshell over the top protects it being ripped.

I’ve never came across a post on the web that mentioned Shimano Zee’s as a possible set of cranks that you could physically shorten i.e. they are not hollow forged, and have enough AL to drill and tap for pedals – so you now have a choice of which cranks you can fit with a light BB.

Holy cow…. HT II here we come

I’m looking at something more basic, I figure you can always camp especially in summer and i don’t want to sell my usual car but have something for weekend trips that fits in the bikes and stuff and can be slept in at a pinch with some basic camping mats…

The basic question though is really the same on where to look/buy…
I’m pretty good at picking cars and usually buy privately but buying a van seems a lot different. (Especially private sales vs specialist van place etc.)

I can certainly live without a built in fridge and cooker ….
10k for me would be more than I usually spend on a car and I do 10k or so a year but what sort of commercial vehicle

Oh, so that’s seagull !!! I always wondered where it was….
I rarely if ever follow the paint by numbers anyway…

For some reason those two tiny drop-offs have confused my 7yr old…
He’s fine down axle run… but because they changed the trail he now freaks out on the two little drops ???

Man was Sunday wet though even though it was just drizzle it seemed to make its way through the trees. We missed out Red 1-5 where the bog usually sits.

@weeksy Top advice there, a trip to Swinley is now on the cards. Some great opinions on here, cheers. I’ll keep you updated.

    It’s £30 for 3 hours…. IMHO a really good investment…
In my case it cost me 2 days later as the 3 hours was enough for me to thin “MUST HAVE – SELL FIRSTBORN on EBAY”

Another thumbs up for the T130 S here. It’s way better than the Pace 405 it replaced and seems far better balanced (the Pace seemed to nose dive).

The reach on the 2017 model is long and I’m 5 ft 11 so went medium, most people go large at this height according to Google but I tried both and felt happier on the medium – definitely try before you buy.

The T-130 does seem to handle itself …. my other bike is a Giant XtC and the T-130 just seems to do everything by itself … whereas the XtC you need to fight it nose-diving on every jump and dropoff.

I’m 5’10 (and a half) but short legs and I was between the Small and Med… with the factory 175mm cranks the Med is a tiny bit high with the seatpost fully in but max height… with 170mm cranks its much much better….so I’m really happy I got the Med as the top length is perfect for me but the legs were too long on 175’s

All that said, I’ve got mates with both bikes. Both are excellent. There’s not really anything bad to say about either. One thing to note, the Whyte is very long.

Fits in the back seat of a BMW 3 series :D :P

Compared to my XC bike its back heavy… and prefers landing on both wheels with minimal effort (in other words its very forgiving and I found I don’t need any effort to manual or make sure it lands well) – unlike my Giant XtC that prefers to nose dive unless you fight back (in other words you gotta really control the air time or unless you are sat on the back wheel the front will dive).

As a result on a decent technical trial its way way more fun than my hardtail …

If you want to test one and in the south you can hire at swinley forest.

Beats me that anyone would spend that amount of money without….

On the -ve I hired one at Swinley … 2 days later my wallet took a beating…equally I hired bikes before I thought I would like and not..

For me it’s the perfect bike for the Swinley reds (my most frequent riding) and all but the to be completed jump park… but that’s me … I’d urge anyone to do a decent test ride for any bike BEFORE lashing out on the cash… as what geometry and size and style suits me won’t suit many…

Its maybe better than en eBay £50 one that comes with all the mounts.. but is in £49.99 better ??

I’m pretty happy with an older £40 AMK5000 … but its just used to video the kid… sucks in poor light but otherwise I’m happy and it was £40 with all the mounts…

    Check its a genuine Kingston…
This is tested in USB sticks not SSD’s but really one is just a bigger version … a friend/colleague told me he’d had a USB stick fail and had got onto the manufacturer … he’d bought it on Amazon or eBay but from what looked very reputable… came in authentic looking packaging etc.

When he checked it was a rip-off… so I then checked a few of mine and lo and behold about half were rip-offs (we use a lot as I use a clean one for each client)

Maybe I have been lucky but I have never broken a creen and have dripped my phones a lot, up until the 6 I didn’t use a case either. 6 is so thin it needs one.

Luck seems to have a lot to do with it…
I abused my 4s badly… dropped 4′ onto hard sharp bricks and was fine.. then years later I dropped it less than 2′ onto soft tarmac and it just shattered..

My 6s (replacement for the 4) fell onto a fairly soft laptop charger on a carpet and broke… the 6 is especially fragile not only is it paper thin but it also has a curved screen (subtle but it is curved) that means it can’t take normal sapphire crystal glass type protectors.

On the bike I used a quadlock … on the back its really rugged but the front is just the plastic poncho but its been fine on the bike as a GPS..

I did look at a armoured type but couldn’t find one that protected the front as well as the back (unlike previous models without curved screens) so I used a wallet type protector. Weirdly it was in the quadlock but without poncho on my desk when it fell.

Buying wise I haven’t had a problem off ebay using normal sensible rules like no new sellers or private sellers with loads of possibly nicked goods. It’s just mainly common sense and not falling for too good to be true.

iphone 6 was ebay private seller … seemed legit and was…
Gumtree (sadly) seems to have become a advertising place for stolen goods or scams… and gumtree do nothing about it… (in my experience having flagged a few where the seller has a too cheap to be true item in your town and when you check 20 others but is out of the country but will you wire the money to a dodgy place)

As several others have said… go try them..

    2 brilliant but different bikes … 1 rider ….
I just spent a lot less on a used T-130s but bought it because I had fun on my local most used trials and it felt good for me. A different rider on different trails might have got something else.

Whole bike cost less than either a new frame or new wheels …on my XC bike. It’s also a lot heavier than a carbon Xc bike but unlike some other bikes I tried it doesn’t FEEL heavy when riding (except wheels).. as I have a pair of carbon rims and I can’t ride 2 bikes at once I’m using those… but I might have considered spending money to change

Local hire rates are imho pretty cheap compared to buying the wrong bike, if you can get a free demo even better

Wiggle are not trying to con you into a new contract, or force you to wait 30 days, or any other of the myriad of conspiracies you seem to believe you are subject to. That looks like a bog-standard returns email that simply gets sent out by default regardless of the situation that initiated it.

If you get this worked up over a minor quibble like this, how the hell do you deal with, you know, actual problems!?

I have a statutory right to return the item bought over distance selling for any reason within 14 days so long as it’s not one of the 3 exclusions of underwear, piercing and whatever the 3rd is. They must then refund my payment method within a set time. They must offer this to operate as a distance seller.

But you then get referred to a separate What if my item is faulty that takes you to a different form for a faulty item.and in my case I was specifically instructed to fill out a faulty item not a return.

When you sign up to the faulty item process you are signing away your statutory rights by accepting different terms … it is no longer being treated as a return under the legislation as you ‘ opted’ to accept new terms. They no longer need to refund your payment in a set time and they can then also charge you a fee to repair an item they shipped broken.

The Con is getting you to opt out of the returns process.

    stevextc
    Free Member

As said, distance selling regs. You received item, they are received damaged, you return item within 14 days and they must refund or replace.

You could have just returned it regardless saying you don’t want it and they have to refund you, so long as it’s within 14 days.

It sounds to me they’ve assumed it’s been broken in use. Quote distance selling regs to them and state this is simply a delivery/packaging issue.

Meanwhile order replacements from elsewhere and just ride bikes. Not worth getting worked up about.

That exactly what I did … thanks. I didn’t even state distance selling regs in the return I put “not as described” (as its described with 42 teeth that is at least correct)

I got a replacement from Evans in the next town … (though that was touch and go for the weekend)

It sounds to me they’ve assumed it’s been broken in use.

Well they have the pictures …. and they also have my statement saying it arrived broken. I’d say it’s more accurate to say they decided to act like it was broken in use and then they can make a warranty claim.

    stevextc

@OP To satisfy mine probably others curiosity any chance you could answer the question posted by cp and repeated by simonbarnes- “why didnt you use the very clear and simple returns process for faulty items“?

It doesn’t have to be a long answer btw

Really short answer: I’d expected something similar to what Canopy posted… the Haribo’s somewhat incidental,

Short answer … 30 days…. plus and then having to pay postage and being held to ransom on a repair fee if it not deemed a manufacturing fault by a biased party.

All of this is in their email, that forms a new contract that I accept.

In accepting this modification to the contract I have opted out of the relevant consumer protection.

    Slightly longer answer ….
What Wiggle are trying is to get me to accept a contract or modification of the present one for £60.

The £60 is significant … this modification would not stand up to contract law. They would have a very very poor chance of winning at small claims court but they know that it is not worth anyone’s time/money and effort to go through the small claims process for £60.

If this was £600+ then I doubt they would try it on.

Imagine you buy a bike and it arrives in a sealed box with only 1 wheel….
They say that they will see if this is a manufacturing fault and it will take a month and refuse to acknowledge the bike was shipped with only one wheel…

and if they determine that there is no manufacturing fault then you pay for shipment and a new wheel.

They wouldn’t try this on would they?…. because enough people would get legal advice for a £600 or £6000 bike…. and they would end up paying costs and damages.

However it makes sense to them apparently for a £60 ….
It doesn’t mean they WILL … they might have received the item and shipped a replacement BUT they have got me to opt out.

    Canopy
I had a similar thing with Wiggle.. but nowhere near as much drama.

I ordered a new bottom bracket. (xt one)
It turned up with one side entirely missing (shimano parts box was obviously open when i opened the wiggle delivery box)
I did a webchat and talked nicely to the person.
I was sent a replacement and sent back the old one on the day it turned up wrong. all sorted.

Think I even got more free haribo.

Yep .. this is very similar right up to the webchat…. I had a nice guy called Matt…

Where this differs is after you filled out the form they didn’t say they were going to investigate if this was a manufacturing fault and you wouldn’t get a replacement for a month …. (and given the open box you know its NOT a a manufacturing fault but that they screwed up and posted it like that)

Open box … part missing … (in my case broken) but in your case they didn’t then say that unless it was deemed a manufacturing fault.

    stevextc

So what – you aren’t there to make that kind of judgement. If it arrives damaged, then it’s damaged in transit, you send it back, job done. Still can’t quite see why you’re so aerated over this. Some people really do make their own drama.

Because they want me to wait up to 30 days + post to from Wiggle and because its a lie… and potentially fraud. I cannot reasonably believe that it has been damaged in transit … or the teeth would be in the box.

    stevextc
    Free Member

The cassette managed to hit something that hard during transit, inside a cardboard box, that teeth have actually been broken off?! Are the broken teeth still inside the box, should be?

Exactly …. and they aren’t inside the box…

It’s not clear from the OP (although it becomes clear later) if he got a 42t cassette with two snapped teeth or simply a 40t cassette. Use of language is important.

It’s clear from the mail I sent which spelled out the product and the missing teeth… I don’t start off sarky…

I’d have just said explicitly that it’s been damaged in transit. Simple situation, simple remedy, job done. No drama required.

But that’s not true … it might be expedient but its not true as above… it beggars belief that they could be knocked off by the carboard or packet of Haribo’s AND if they had the teeth should be inside the box … which they weren’t which leaves the probability of all the atoms spontaneously changing position to some reality outside the box which is trillions to one….

I had the same situation with some shoes I bought from CRC that were faulty out of the box (failed stitching). They were suggesting the shoes needed to go to the manufacturer for a warranty assessment, I pointed out that 1) the item hadn’t failed, it had been supplied defective and 2) I could have returned them ‘just because’ under CRC’s own policy. I got a refund.

It’s not CRC’s policy per-se but the consumer protection …
Perhaps this is a loophole being exploited by both … I’ve returned to CRC myself no problem because I changed my mind/found it cheaper elsewhere… really no biggy …

The issue is when you return a damaged item .. and they take away your right to return and get your money back.

They then set conditions that is must be a manufacturing fault or you pay post (not the biggest part) and they can then repair or whatever the NEW item they shipped damaged. If its a manufacturing fault they get paid back….

If its damaged in the post they claim insurance..

Had they been HONEST right from the off I would have paid for another to be shipped in the meantime….

Meanwhile because I was honest they have run me about …. going way past when I could realistically order and have it for the weekend….

I’m sure over 50% and probably over 80% of returns are actually “change of mind” which they are forced to comply with to do distance selling.

Of that they then pick on the minority who get a damaged product.

    stevextc
    Free Member

Someone may have sent you the wrong email, easily done,

Perhaps .. it is there response that makes me froth though… instead of acknowledging this they merely continue following the process.

The bloke Matt on the webchat said they would sort it out the same day… instead I got an email about warranty… I made it clear it was damaged when it arrived and that the broken parts were not in the sealed box so it must have been packed that way.

but seriously, just follow the procedure and don’t kick off at them, you’re more likely to get sorted much much quicker.

Well the main thing is having a bike this weekend…

Various parts all arrived from various places over the week so until I had everything I left stuff packaged in the shed.

    I laready pai

    stevextc

hhmmmm, they appear to have missed a step about frothing on STW, many customers can’t survive without this key moment!

If they actually had a phone number … if there was someone to talk to…. if they had handled this politely…. not tried to make this into some “manufacturing defect” that takes 30 days+ when clearly they have shipped a damaged product.

If I was not honest I could have just returned it anyway… then presumably some other poor blighter will get it shipped to them….

Instead I’d expected they would ship a replacement product… or at least said “just return it and order another and we’ll refund when the return comes in”…

All of these would have been acceptable…
Instead they say it will be up to a month plus postage time to from wiggle AND they will only refund if its a manufacturing defect (which it most obviously isn’t) and then they may charge me for REPAIR…. for an item THEY shipped damaged.

    stevextc

AndyL, see that is what I’d expect or at least hope for….

I got a set of Enduro shorts from JE James and AFTER I’d had them for a week the stitching came apart on the (removable) liner..

I called them and explained and they popped a replacement in the post SAME DAY… and offered to pay postage on return. It was only £2.95 (from memory) so I said not to bother with the faff of postage…. so they offered me a new tube or similar

In this case they were sealed in original packaging … not their fault but WIGGLE supplied a new retail item without original packaging and damaged…

I demo’d the 130 S on sunday, thought it was great, so much so that when I got back to the shop I ordered one and took delivery today. I too mulled over the RS but to be honest after riding the S, I was more than happy with it, Yari fork was great!

I have to agree, its a long time since I borrowed, demo’d or hired something and came away feeling I have to have one…

I’ve tried quite a few bikes in various circumstances and many of which I liked but non that felt like it was a must have over a present bike.

It’s certainly built for fun on the UK trails I ride…

Christ this seems like a lot of ranting over something easy sorted.

Wiggle offer collect plus so send it back for free and in the mean time order a new one if urgent?

In stark contrast I ordered a couple of packs of chainring bolts the other week. Last night I noticed there was only 4 in the packet not 5. Not problem but thought I should let them know and sent them a polite email saying it wasnt a problem as I was fitting them to 4 bolt spiders but I would order some more with my next order so I had the spares I was hoping to have. This was around 6pm last night.

Next time I checked my email after Master Chef I noticed an email from DPD saying my wiggle order was on the way, looked futher down and they had replied, escalated saying they will check the other bags and sent me an pack FOC.

I’m intrigued as to who sent your response … mine was someone called Tiff…

Had they responded in the same way I’d have been happy… instead after someone called “Matt” on their webchat assured me to send a email with photo’s they would sort it the same day I got a email full of absolute BS.

Firstly its a brand new Shimano XT with 2 missing teeth. In what way would they need to check with their suppliers if its under warranty IF its a legit import?
So either they are lying and didn’t check or they are trying to pull as fast one on their supplier.

    Beej

They aren’t trying it on, or committing “fraud”.

If they are trying to make a warranty claim on an item they damaged they are committing fraud

They packed and shipped a damaged item… it doesn’t fall out of the box and the black retainer come off by accident… someone has dropped the unpackaged item and its not me or its a previous return…. .

    Andyl

Wiggle offer collect plus so send it back for free and in the mean time order a new one if urgent?

Yes, if I change my mind it’s free … if they ship a damaged product then its only free if its a manufacturing defect (according to their email not according to law)

Then they then reserve the right to charge me EXTRA for repairs …

I ordered a NEW product … not a faulty one I then get charged for post and repairs with over a month delay… (30 days is once Wiggle send it off to their supplier for inspection)

They are WIGGLING around The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013

As many mentioned I can simply send it back because I changed my mind… but actually telling them the truth and they try and remove it from the The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 by making it a warranty item.

As others mentioned, and as I said in my email… this has no effect on me… though it is fraud if they try and pass this off as a manufacturing defect with their supplier.

    CP

What on earth did you write in your original email to wiggle OP – it sounds like you may have suggested it was damaged on fitting rather than damaged on arrival.

The email goes viua a webform and I didn’t see an option to CC me and they have not included my mail with any of their mails.

Wiggle are very good at returns/damages/incorrect orders etc

Perhaps but this is not a return/incorrect order… they are trying to bypass the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 by making it a warranty item.

I was very clear in the mail it arrived damaged and that the broken parts were not in the sealed box.

    Faulty Item Returns

Faulty items are not included in our 365 day return policy as they can be sent back to us at any time. Items sent back to us will undergo a inspection and It may be necessary to send the item away to the manufacturer to confirm the fault. Once we have received your item back we will inform you how we need to proceed.

Please note: Items over 30 days old may need to be sent off for repair before we can consider a refund/replacement. Our returns team will inform you if this is the case.

    Sanny, if only ….
Non of my true LBS stock 90% … Evans had 1 in the next town… I know the ones in my town but wow they have a telephone … I called and he went to double check stock of 1 for me before I drove. Then I came back via Halfords as they are doing a deal on a new BB and KMC 10x chain missing link pack of. 2 for 2.99 but all that was order online and get delivered to local store.

The BB has been there since Monday but I work 6am to 9pm every weekday… Weekends I’m out on my bike …

Thanks all, I’m just venting because they are screwing me about
Rather than apologise they are trying to WIGGLE and who needs to check with suppliers if a 2 day old XT is covered by warranty?

More to the point it went into the box broken … and if they try and make a warranty claim knowing what I informed them they are committing fraud. I felt I should point that out to them. I can’t imagine what manufacturing defect they think causes a bag of haribos to knock 2 teeth off a 7075 alloy sprocket

Luckily local Evans had one in stock for about £1 more in a retail box and with all the teeth! Better than waiting a month with no bike… and I had to go out to pick up a new BB Anyway…

I sent an email as some or most have suggested … perhaps more than I needed to say but I feel better after.
I also opened a case with Amex for them to reclaim payment.

    Tiff,
I will cancel the order for the Shimano Deore XT M8000 Cassette as set out in The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. I have changed my mind as I now wish to have a product that has 42 teeth as described.

    As per your returns policy.
“We make no charge for returns – there is no restocking fee.

“Collect+ is a free of charge service available to our UK customers. There are more than 6000 drop off points across the UK that are open from early in the morning to late at night, 7 days a week to make your return as convenient as possible.

I will drop the item in the box your sent it in at a collect+ location tomorrow.

Please let me know when you will credit the money back to my PayPal account as I have spoken with the Amex team who are quite happy to recall the payment and credit my card if I am not satisfied and you can take this up with PayPal.

    Your terms state:

“Returned goods must be unused and supplied with their original packaging.”

The original Shimano packaging was missing. Shimano ship their cassettes in a protective box with the cassette attached to a inner card with a white plastic insert to hold the cassette together in transit and a black plastic one-time retaining clip that holds the insert inside the cassette.

When received, the original packaging and two teeth had somehow disappeared from inside the sealed wiggle box and the black plastic retaining clip broken off.

If you have ever seen a genuine Shimano cassette in genuine packaging you would realise these take quite some effort to remove and are a one time only clip not able to be reinserted once removed. They do not just fall off and hence Shimano can ensure the item has not been used.

As the teeth are not in the sealed box I can only conclude it must have been packed with 2 missing teeth. As the original packaging was missing and the one-time retainer clip broken off I can only assume it was packed this way.

If you wish to take this up as a warranty item with your supplier then that has no bearing on me as the consumer although it would be negligent of me not to point out that may constitute a fraudulent act by your company should you believe it is possible one of your employees packed a returned damaged item and dispatched it.

    As per your previous email.
“We can then make sure your return postage costs are refunded as quickly as possible should your item be confirmed as faulty.”
I would remind you of your terms of the website.

“We make no charge for returns – there is no restocking fee.”

So if I understand correctly you wish to send off a 42 tooth cassette with two broken off teeth in order to determine if it is faulty and then have me wait 30 days. You wish to have it inspected for manufacturing faults that cause 2 teeth of 7075 alloy to break off in contact with cardboard and then undergo some matter transfer and spontaneously disappear from inside a sealed box?

When it is determined that no manufacturing defect can cause 7075 alloy to be broken by contact with cardboard you then wish to charge me for postage and then fees to repair an item your company packed and shipped broken?

Your website already states that I can return an item if not as described or I change my mind for free with Collect+. As the item is described as 11-42 and it only has 40 teeth the item is not as described and I have changed my mind.

I’ll have a great day thanks to Evans Cycles who are shipping a genuine Shimano cassette with genuine packaging and all the teeth to the local store tomorrow so I will be able to get out on my bike this weekend despite your business practices at Wiggle

    Sorry … as above.
It might not break more or it might just be a scratch rather than stress fracture,
Plenty of people will be getting new bikes or parts over mass and eBay the old bike/frame after …7075 is even worse but getting it annealed after welding is going to be expensive I’d imagine…

Random thought might be to reinforce with a carbon fibre kit… if you don’t mind the look after ?

Issues ? Yep riding round chainrings after…
That’s honestly the only issue ….
I did briefly put a non oval 1×10 on my trail bike (2015 Whyte t-130) with a 73mm GXP BB onto the 96 bcd outer bolts …
I stuck on my wheel from my XC (though the wheels is a trail rim) that has an absolute black 40T expander on a 13-36 (no 12T and absolute lock ring).. identical m780 rear mechs and brand new chain (Kmc as on other)

I’m lost as to why it won’t work ! (I’ve done this more than a few times) The brand new chain (cleaned of packing gunk and then lightly oiled) keeps slipping in 1st but only under load (1:3) . I added 2 extra links…(just to check) played with the b-tension … wound it back on upper limit … bunged some extra tension on cable … don’t know if it’s the chain line or is it the new chain … the expander doesn’t look worn… I’ve had 5mm clearance and with the b screw all in even tried 10mm

Went round in circles and …. erm accepted defeat and decided to stick m8000 instead (I’ve been collecting everything for a while and finally got the shifter today by royal snail post…. anyway … that works in the bike stand ….

I’m changing BB this weekend to Hollowtech so I can use my 170mm m785 cranks with absolute oval on. But I’d still like to know why….

My other bike is a Giant XtC advanced … total weight about 2oz… well not quite, but it’s very light and made to climb.
A month or so ago I hired a Marin from Swinley when I found I had a hole in the brake hose … great bike but it felt heavy the whole ride.

Last weekend I hired a t-130 great bike and it didn’t feel heavy, regardless of what the scales say there is no hill at Swinley where I’d wish to transform it to the Carbon XC bike … I’d guess the XC bike would be faster if I was out to time myself but there isn’t a point where you want get off and walk and I didn’t even feel like changing the forks and suspension to a hard setting… and I’m not super fit … just average.

As for the rest … eats the reds and the off trail runs… and a huge amount of fun … so I ended buying a used one…

    My 4′ six year old rides a 24 … Can’t see how a 5′ ten year old wouldn’t fit a 26 small (13″-14″)
