How about doing it on a combined income of £50k, sounds about right.

Things are getting tight for everyone, more so for the lower paid, your not really going to pick up much sympathy crying about how we can’t survive on £60k a year. Anyone who thinks so must be a banker and have think skin.

No moral high ground on my part, I just had to make the hard choices, I moved jobs and wife no longer works and we had to move house. Sorry but in this case we have walked the walk and not just spouting the usual bull that most on here do. The tax system seems to be a moving platform right now. I’m paying significantly more in tax with increased pension contributions than I was last year and my income has now be static for 3 years. So fleking what I hear you all say, you care as much about that as I do about someone earning £60k and loosing their CB.

A £60k salary may seem a lot if you live on £25k salary, but if you’ve 3 kids the Govt has suddenly taken away a very large chunk of your ‘spare’ cash. This is the real problem for those folk.

And a £60k salary won’t buy you a house in many places, without a seriously large deposit.

Really, how about living within your means, just like people on £25k have to.

If £60k won’t buy you the house then look at smaller house or a different area just like the rest of us.

    Good point well made Ianmunro

As for that argument about childcare. We made a choice for my wife to be a stay at home mum, it was not a difficult choice, when you think abut the options. I be most people would choose it if money was not part of the equation. We decided to take money out of it ourselves.

I have a pretty good background knowledge, both wife and I had stay at home mums, wife was a nursery teacher and I am secondary and have seen the downsides of other people bring up your young children.

Things clearly change when they start to get older, particularly in secondary school.

But even then having a parent at home always knowing where the children are and looking after their welfare seems to me like the best option. Many of you clearly disagree but then thankfully you are not bringing my kids up. Happy days. :D :D

Funny my wife stays at home and looks after our kids, we manage on 1 not very high salary. We took the decision for my wife to give up work, as its much better for the kids, especially in the first 5 years. We wouldn’t have had it any other way.

I guess it’s just a choice some people make, to still have a fancy house and nice cars or well brought up kids.

Just seems to me there are too many people living way beyond their means.

I agree the way the threshold is calculated is unfair, but to claim that £50k doesn’t stretch very far and people with this level of income have to watch what they spend just shows how out of touch with reality some people are.
I’d suggest that you might be a little out of touch yourself, or perhaps live up North in a house you bought more than 15 years ago.

Or is it that you are living in a house and area that is beyond your means and what want other tax payer to subsidise it for you.

The point is you get rid of all the bs self employed contractors who are ripping the arse out the tax system. It’s the only way to ensure everyone pays tax in a fair and equitable manner. It seems to. Me that everyone who are on paye are the mugs who have no choice.

I just don’t get why they don’t get rid of all benefits for working folk and just raise the personal allowance another £5k would encourage more people into work and would massively simplify the benefit system and save millions.

At the same time force everyone to pay tax paye, no income allowed unless this way. It’s easily do able but the Tories don’t want to pay any more than they have to with there wee consultancy jobs and non exec directorship.

Did the new blue in Nov and loved it, pretty fast and you could easily get into trouble if you were not careful.

The blue at Ae is actually a nice wee ride now, perfect of a night ride.

I had a “Trek Go-Bug” for my 2 lil’ boys, its was AWESOME, really light alu’ construction, looked mega cool, and towed like a dream, on all surfaces, at all speeds.

Really missed having to sell it cos the kids where too big.

What he says. I really miss using mine and use a tag along now. It actually seems harder to pull.

I hate the way the rest of the country has to subsidise the London commuter train fares. About time you lot paid full price. And I can then afford to buy some diesel for my car.

Keep Aksiums as winter wheels or ebay them, then stick these cheap Ultegra wheels on.

Yes cause that makes sense.

    Not sure what you mean.

Mavic akasium are pretty much all the wheels most people need. They are relatively light and very strong.

Ksyrium are a tad lighter but twice the price.

In reality the most important things about wheels are the things most people don’t bother with, they should be strong and be ridged. Weight really is a bt of a red herring, as 2 or 3 hundred grams means very little.

Aero is slightly different but in reality you have to be averaging 18mph + to really get much benefit.

My advice is buy the bike you like, with a decent package and ride it. If the wheels cause you problems thn change them.. If money is no object then buy zipp, otherwise cheaper mavic or fulcrum wheels will do the job.

I think some of you lot want to be joining mumsnet, you sound like you need a wee cuddle.

Most roadies will give you the nod, but it will probably be too subtle for most, finger wag, slight nod of head tilt. I go for the finger wag myself.

I mean what do you want? Do you expect then to stop and have a coffee at the side of the road?

Just polished off my second chocolate marzipan log of the day.

I must have eaten 5000 Cal today easy, probably a lot more.

Going out for a ride in the morning, unless I do 350 miles at an average of 25 mph I think I will put on a bit of weight this week! 8O

I just bought one, its a light bx but also does the alarm sunrise thing.

Have been talking about getting one for years, after putting on 4kgs over te past 6 weeks I have to act.

Constantly hungry and and eating but no energy and tired, craving all the crappy food of the day, it’s such a difference from just a few mints ago.

Fingers crossed that it makes a difference.

On a serious note, my wife went out and I put the kids to be and then went out to garage on the turbo for an hour. Felt bad after about 20 mins leaving them and I was only in the garage with the door open and I told my oldest where I would be.

Decided from now on just to wait untill wife gets back.

I’m still not sure what I did was bad.
