+1 for Bruges beertje
Check out cambrinas too, massive beer menu and the food there is great – think it was called mixed snacks or something, basically a mountain of meat and cheese – we christened it Meatsuvious. The frites vans in the square are ok late at night.
Go up the clock tower in the main square and try to be there on the hour so you can be at the top when the bells ring, quite an experience!
Hire bikes, you can be out on the canal tow paths in 5 minutes and have a great ride for a few hours.
Enjoy.
stevewFree MemberAlways loved them, seen them a fair few times. The best time was the Manchester Acadamy gig around the time of King for a Day, we went for pre gig food and saw Mike Patton in our favourite kebab shop. He was a really nice bloke too.
stevewFree MemberThanks to all for the recommendations so far, will have a good look through all later and start to plan it out.
Ta.

stevewFree MemberI only wish I knew…
Our 2 year old, who was newly potty trained at the time, had to go into hospital for tests (was nothing in the end) and I had to get a sample. He’s usually brilliant on a potty but refused to go – probably due to the strange setting. Had him sat on my knee for 3 hours with the potty below him while he watched Octonauts on loop…He was happy but it was like some kind of stress position torture for me coupled with the constant bombardment of submarine cartoon animal adventures… not a night I remember fondly.
Sorry I cant help, good luck!
stevewFree MemberApple user here – yes, agree, the lack of multiple zones is a shame but they will surely change this in future… – I have a B&W Zepplin Air and it is fantastic. Replaced my ageing hi fi with it and despite initial concerns over lack of stereo separation between the speakers I have not regretted it. Great sound and depth and really fills the room.
I have a spotify premium account and stream using our phones or the ipad.
stevewFree MemberI ordered a sample on Wednesday and it came today!!?
Don’t know what all of the fuss is about, great service!
stevewFree MemberI thought the Phantom would crop up and I will definately check it out, good to see so many good recommendaitons, does anyone have the xenon? It seems more heavy duty but not as versatile as the phantom which with some good layering probably does the same job?
stevewFree MemberThe nose pieces for my Jawbones have snapped, anyone know the best place to get replacement parts? Emailed Oakley to see if they would send them for free – worded it differently of course – and they pointed me to their online shop. Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere that might be cheaper / quicker.
stevewFree MemberWatch American Flyers, spend every road ride afterwards humming the theme and thrashing along pretending to be Kevin Costner with trademark tash, Lycra and a Stetson…. Close thread.
Even without that I love road riding.
stevewFree MemberMy 4 and 2 year old boys went shopping with mummy earlier for a pressie. I am now the proud owner of Goldie and Speckles. The fact that Eddy has wanted goldfish for a long time has surely nothing to do with it….
stevewFree MemberManagement is about doing it right, leadership is about doing the right thing.
With delegation you primarily want someone to do it right but through good leadership they will see that it is the right thing to do and they will start to do it right.
All sounds a bit ‘Mike the Knight’ – a management reference for fathers of toddlers out there!!
stevewFree MemberExcellent bike, really well made. My eldest is riding it at 4 straight from his Rothan, did wonder if I should miss 14 and go straight to 16 but it is important to get a bike that fits them now or it could put them off.
Would definitely recommend.
stevewFree MemberIf u have a wifi network setup get an Apple TV box, plug in where u want the tv and problem solved. Has all te usual channels as freebies and can also mirror anything from an iPad etc
Works a treat.
stevewFree MemberHarthill hall has loads of cottages and are all well less than a grand, perhaps you just looked at the price for hiring the full hall??
Glad you got something but still really recommend Harthill.
stevewFree Memberhttp://www.harthillhall.co.uk/
Stayed here a few times in the big barn and on another occasion with a large group spread across a range of cottages so can recommend pretty much all of them. Each with their own hotub and a shared pool that is cool.
Well worth a look. Tidings pretty good from the door too.
stevewFree MemberPast the arena over the canal bridge and turn right into the estate, not the highest class of neighbourhood but never had a prob, just make sure there isn’t owt on display in your car.
Nice free parking then less than a 5 minute walk to the venue.
stevewFree MemberHi Sancho
Looks like I’ve started something and plenty of potential business here, any details would be great.
Ta.
Steve
stevewFree MemberCheers sancho, sounds good, any more details you can send, email in profile, or point me to a website.
Will speak to my buddies and we’ll decide what we want.
Steve
stevewFree MemberIs it safe? No. But then again neither is rattling down a black run on a full suss mountain bike….
stevewFree MemberI live in York, my folks live in Sheffiled and my brother lives in Cambridge, so many possibilities… defo think that I will be seeing various starts / finishes / hill tops over the three days, very, very exciting.
Not seen any reference to a prologue though?? Would be great for the kids to watch – was awesome in London the other year.
stevewFree MemberThanks Towen, great advice. Seen some thing on the internet already but the Singletrack collective are always worth asking.
What combo lean / fatty meat do you use?
stevewFree MemberSpotify premium for me through decent separates and AirPlay through a B&W Zepplin. Sounds great.
stevewFree MemberSome great advice above, home cooking is key. If you eat out eat somewhere with a good reputation as any chef worth their weight shout take pride in cooking specifically for you. You may need to ring ahead though. Good chippy’s will also cook specifically in different oil or some do it once a month when they change the oil.
Oh, what out for hidden things like sauces – soy sauce for eg – as it is often the hidden things.
stevewFree MemberJust made borscht in the kenwood chef titanium for a dinner party on Saturday. Can’t decide if one should serve it with or without the traditional glug of vodka?!?
stevewFree MemberI never buy anything but Planet X neoprene, dirt cheap so can be replaced often, very warm and waterproof in all but sub aqua rides.
stevewFree MemberWe are booking this weekend. Can’t wait. Looking at one of the evenings itineries the last race starts at 1am! That’s a lot of beer, sausage and frites, some major pacing required!!
Anyone know of any good bike hire places in town to take in a ride during the day?
stevewFree MemberIts quite hilly so technically not one for Cav but he is a better climber now then he was. If the rest of team Sky – sorry, GB – can help him over the climbs he has a chance.
I’d like to see him continue to adapt to be like Thor Hushovd etc and be able to challenge in the one day calssics where there are decent climbs, perhaps this would be the sort of course to suit that sort of rider.
Who knows, not convinced he can but have a little hope that he will….
stevewFree MemberMont Blanc Barraccuda. Excellent quality and hold the bike safely even before everything is tightened and locked down.
Can be found for £100 ish for two if you look round.
stevewFree MemberTa.
Yes, it’s the cabin that costs, might try a shared cabin, could look for peeps to share with on other more ready forums perhaps.
If I get cheap train tickets to London soon cou
D be cheaper on the Eurostar.stevewFree MemberDay off yesterday with Mrs SteveW road bike ride around Thrixendale in the Wolds, bliss….
The only blip was when I opened the car boot to get the bikes out and she ‘when did you get that bike….’ – oops!!
stevewFree MemberHad a few days riding the Long Mynd last month and stayed in a pub in a small village about 10 miles away called Clun. Some local scallies had spray painted a ‘g’ and an ‘e’ after the village name on the sign on the way in.
Genius, made us laugh everytime we went past, even funnier to think the general populous of the place probably had no idea whatsoever what it meant!!!
stevewFree MemberCan only help with eastern peak conditions as we only rode Houndkirk / Blacker / East Moor but was very wet and muddy and plenty of snow in places but not a full covering. Great fun though.
stevewFree MemberAgree with all above.
Re the helmet, both my boys have always worn helmets in the seat and the trailer but agreed that it is less needed in the trailer.
I have always sought out helmets with a flat profile on the back of the helmet, this stops their head being pushed forward as rightly pointed out by some above – specialized and abus have been good for this for my two little ‘uns.
stevewFree MemberKings of convenience, rjd2, the donnas, I am kloot, Anthony and the johnsons, Neil young and tonight the monkeys – rip Davy.
Have you tried any of the playlist sharing sites / apps? I use Share my Playlist.com – really good way to check out new things – listened to a great 80’s cock rock playlist earlier.
stevewFree MemberAh, you see, where you are going wrong is you are using the wrong stirring device, no serious porridge eater should be without a spurtle to stir his oats…..
stevewFree MemberAll as above, really hard to get out – 3 year old and 1 year old and the riding never seemed to pick up between the two.
Road rising from the house is quicker to set up and gives me more of a buzz than the average bridleways around here – York. It takes lots more time to get to the Dales or Moors and adds to the time you are away from the family.
I take my bike – road or mountain – on the train to meetings and plan routes back from the venue or a point two or three stations from home, this gives an opportunity to squeeze rides into the edge of the working day and not really eat into family time. Unfortunately I have to drive to my normal workplace so cant cycle commute but I sometimes put the bike in the car an park further out of the city and cycle the rest, again, gives a bit of a turn on the pedals.
Also, enjoy riding with the kids, both mine have a bike seat and I also have a trailer and a tag along (for when the eldest is a bit bigger), if we go places as a family I always look for a 30 minute loop from the picnic spot or car park and head off while the family are eating or falling asleep back at the car etc.
Kids, complicated eh?
stevewFree MemberThanks
Tredethick looks good
The Little Beach House looks really good – we were thinking about Sennen, may be in touch, will talk to my wife later.
stevewFree MemberThe Beach House looks fab, will have a good look at lunchtime, almost scared to look at the prices though…..
Mrs Stevew will definately be pleased with that sor tof standard
stevewFree MemberSpotify for me, not tried Napster but hear it is just about the same. Have the £4.99 version as I don’t take stuff offline.
There are a few omisisons though, just trying to think of a few (can’t access at work) – Beatles, Metalica, Led Zep, some others too but not really found too many and none of which I can’t cover pretty well with my CD collection anywho.
I remember from the OP’s previous thread on setting up his system that he has an aversion to Apple but just to say that I do get a few drop outs from the Spotify App where it needs to be reopened again – usually near to the begining of a sessions play. Some days does it, others its fine, imagine there will be a version update to fix it at some stage.
