Download Pizzapp onto your phone, excellent tool to give you the right balance of flour, water, yeast and salt. No need for anything else. I just use this and haven’t looked at a recipe in a long time.

I usually mix for 10 minutes in a Kenwood Chef, leave for an hour on the countertop then in the fridge for 72 hours – you can either ball at this stage and place in separate containers in the fridge or leave bulk and ball when it comes out.

Bring it out of the fridge 4 hours or so before cooking. I usually make a massive batch and freeze the dough balls at this stage then take them out the night before cooking to defrost in the fridge then on the countertop for 4 hours before cooking.

I use a pizza oven but have had good results on a pizza stone in the normal oven – heat it at full temp for an hour before. I have heard good things about the frying pan hob/grill method too.

I use 00 pizza flour usually on whatever bulk offers are available in Booker and share with a friend. IMHO decent flour and the long cold proof time are the key to airy and great tasting crusts – the Pizza oven helps too but normal ovens can still be great. Oh, and hand stretch, always, don’t roll it out, if you do you’ll lose all of that lovely air that has formed, watch some online videos, it’s not that hard and can be fun. Don’t worry if the end results are not pefectly round it will always taste better than shop bought!

After reading all of this going to get some dough out of the freezer later for pizza tomorrow!

OSMaps App/Desktop users, is there an option to snap to roads when plotting a route? The snap to path option in national parks is useful but seems that there is only the option to plot straight lines between course points when plotting on the road.

I use Garmin Connect to easily upload to the device but as we have all said many times the mapping is useless, I have Bing or another OS viewer open and refer to it as I plot.

Used to love Bikehike but not sure if its dead? Can’t use it at work either and often plot routes just before leaving on an evening or lunchtimes so can’t do that anymore.

If the OS map site plotted road and off-road cycle routes easily I would have a permanent subscription, use it to plot and upload the GPX to Garmin Connect.

    Any feedback welcome.

Oakley Radarlock photochromatic, wear them every single day for commuting and weekend rides. As Clink says great for everything but not quite dark enough on the handful of blazing hot summer days that we get.

They get stuffed in and out of my bag or worn on the front of my helmet when not in use and haven’t scratched in over 2 years of use, really like the robustness of the lenses.

Sorry, just seen your message. If you are driving to the north check out the areas off Boroughbridge Road/Wetherby Road/Carr Lane/Poppleton.

We live in Holgate, love it, we can walk into the centre in 20 minutes and cycle everywhere.

If a quick walk to the centre is needed it will likely rule out many of the north of the city areas you have already mentioned, agree that Fulford is a good call, to the east and north east of there does get a bit studenty.

Go draw a circle on a map at 2/3/4 miles radius (dependant on your walking tolerance) and visit the key locations in there. There are no really horrible areas in York but you need to look at it street by street to see how it feels for you. I prefer west of the river personally.

The flood map above is misleading as it shows the risk without defences, there are a network of defences and more than £60m is currently being spent on them, happy to advise if there are any areas of concern.

I’ve had the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite since November, I’m not usually bothered by phones so didn’t want to spend much, wanted a Pixel but the new one is stupid money and the last one still pricey.

The Xiaomi uses Android One with no extra skins like a lot of providers so is nice and clean and easy to use. Would definitely recommend. Think I could power a small town for a week with the battery. Only draw back is the camera is so-so but plenty of other models with better cameras.

Had a great day there yesterday, elite races were great especially the mend with the top three locked together for all but the last lap.

Pidcock looked awesome, his speed through the wooded sections was amazing, honour to see a star of the future (or even bigger than he is at present).

Great event, very well ran and my 9 and 6 year old boy loved it – especially building dens in the woods in between races!!

    Hi

    A530’s here too.

There is also the option to have a compromise shoe, I have a pair of Exustar Stelvio’s which are smart enough for most meetings, nice black leather shoe with a recessed cleat. Might replace them with a pair of Quoc Pham’s later this year.

Yep, York is proper rammed as always at this time of year, the amount of people stepping out in front of the bike is just mad.

Very Christmassy though and love it.

NRM is fab, my boys used to literally run around it diving in and out of trains but we didn’t mind as residents as we could just keep going back. Don’t go as often now, still fab though.

The cat trail is good but will be hard to keep stopping and starting in the crowds, a nice walk around the city walls will be good and quite impressive for a toddler, get the land train from the NRM and get onto the walls at Bootham Bar near the Minster and do the section round past the Minster and its grounds as that’s the best bit. Come back down at Monk Bar and there is a really good model shop and ice cream shop on Goodramgate. Nice walk back through the main centre to the railway station from there.

Enjoy, I’ll wave from my office.

Very good, had their whole bronze turkey for the last 2 years, very nice indeed with herby garlic butter spread underneath the skin. Yum.

Looking forward to it but noted comments above about potential for more people moving to Aldi this year and supplies may be scarce.

Not ridden there but toured the mountains, awesome place.

Many of the roads in the mountains and into the wadi’s are well packed dirt tracks, some rockier than others but should be good riding. We had a hired Shogun and needed it.

A good hard tail or short travel full sus should be good enough.

    Very jealous.

Had a Xeccon Strive for a few years now, excellent.

Can be ran in flood/spot or combo of both, rated at 900 lumens and not sure if it really puts that much out but used it on many a very early morning / evening winter training ride on small unlit lanes and works a treat.

My boys are 9 and almost 7, its only in the last few months that we have sat together and worked through all of the Marvel Universe movies and the previous x-men and spiderman movies together, they have really enjoyed them.

Clearly Deadpool and Logan are no goes and they understand that and have not shown them anything from the DC side of the fence.

Waited until now though as although violent they are done in a fantasy sort of way but didn’t want my youngest to see them until a bit older and although there were a couple I had not already seen I had knowledge of pretty much all of the movies before they saw them.

All watched at home though and agree with some comments on the noise in the cinema etc.

    Hi

Xtracycle free radical conversion on a gt donor frame here. Love it. My boys are 6 and 9 now and mainly ride their own bikes but can still haul both on the back. When younger I built a guard rail round the back of the rear platform from lightwieght key clamp and rapped in pipe lagging to give them security on the back. Worked well.

I don’t have a car, use it for some stupidly big shops and tip runs. Can be a little flexy but fine if you expect it.

Great bike to ride unladen too, really fun.

Its been at the centre of many a picnic / day trips etc for years and always gets lots of attention.

This may be pedantry of the highest degree but BBQ needs to be an indirect heat (charcoal to one side (or both sides)of the BBQ and the food not in direct contact, or the gas burners only set for one side of the BBQ) and the lid closed.
Cooking over direct heat with no lid is grilling.

I have a weber charcoal – the one touch GBS big kettle – and I use it mainly to indirect cook big pieces of meat with lots of smoke – just eaten a salad with the remains of the brisket I smoked for 5 hours yesterday. It obviously grills very well too.
I also have a Cadac which I use as a gas grill and also have the griddle and other attachments.

The gas is really quick and easy to cook a steak etc so the kitchen does’t get all smelly etc, still a decent charred and smokey taste. But the true, intense, BBQ flavour only comes from it’s partner in crime.

Even if you don’t want to do indirect cooking/smoking etc a lid really helps to speed things up and you can also buy a pizza stone and get some really good results – almost as good as dedicated pizza ovens

Looks like 20” is the only option and think it may be a bit big for him at the moment too.

Saw a Frog 58 on Gumtree earlier for a good price but on checking with his dad it’s prob to pricy for what he wants to pay. They look really nice.

Think I’ll switch my focus to a 16” wheel hybrid bike recommendation and suggest he looks for a road bike as the next upgrade.

Yes, you are right, high risk is 1 in 75 years or greater but the OP only stated ‘with a 1 in 75 year risk’.

The Flood Risk from Rivers and the Sea map looks at defences and their standard of protection and current condition ratings and assigns the areas behind them as having very low/low/medium/high risk in accordance with this, looking at the map for Croft there is an area of medium and low flood risk behind the bank meaning the risk is less than 1 in 75 years – the floodbank must still be considered to have a standard of protection of 1 in 100 years or so.

The way in which the industry talks about flood risk is being debated at present and we need to find better ways of conveying the risk simply and effectively, I guess this highlights this

    Hi

Like Pictonroad I’m a flood risk professional and have worked in the sector all of my professional life, fully agree that there are some very enlightened comments on here and is good to see.

Croft on Tees has extensive flood defences, look on the EA mapping on line to see if the property is in an ‘area benefitting from defences’ which should be mapped, I have worked on the defences in Croft and at the time they were built they were of a good standard but with new flood events and data and the advent of climate change understanding their standard of protection may not be what was considered at the time of construction.

However, the defences work well and the community behind them enjoys the benefit of defences.

The EA mapping has several forms – without defences mapping shows the ultimate risk and is used for planning purposes, there is a data set that looks at the risk with defences included and this is the key one – it is now called the Flood Risk from Rivers and the Sea map, it considers the likelihood of defences being overtopped or failing, this is probably where the 1 in 75 year assessment comes from.

It is all a question of ‘residual risk’, yes the area may be at risk of flooding but following the measures that have been built to reduce the likelihood or impact of that flooding what is the residual risk. I would suggest that the residual risk is fairly low.

Given our population centres being built by rivers due to industrial or transportation needs in the past we cannot simply turn our back on living in the floodplain, we need to adapt the properties that are already there and where we need to build properties in the future ensure they are built appropriately with resilience built in etc. If we simply said no development in the floodplain central London would have been mothballed many years ago…

However, given all of that would I buy a home in a floodplain? There aren’t many hills in York but I live on one of them… Just my choice informed by the industry I work in, but for many people living near a river brings many more benefits and can be enjoyed safely but it is key that we are all informed of the risks and understand how we can take steps to reduce their impact.

    Sorry for the rambling thoughts.

Yep, sounding like MOSI will take most of our time, I’m actually a Manchester Uni graduate so agree that the museum at the uni is good, fancy a kebab from Abdul’s for old times sake… Just never been since we had kids so wondered what was cool.

Done the Lego thing and Trafford Centre stuff before – the mahoosive kids play centre – play factore(?) looks cool but will leave that till we head over again in the car, will probably stick to the centre and just wander around. Is Aflecks Palace still there? Could take them for joss sticks and vintage denim….

Not been for 10 years but fab. The people, as others have said are amazing. We were in a hired 4×4 middle of nowhere passing through a small town and realised we had a puncture. Read the manual to find jacking points etc before getting out into the heat and before we knew it the car started to lift as the locals were jacking it up and starting to change the tyre for us.

Ridden around west Flanders several times but never tackled the classics climbs so really looking forward to it

Thanks for the advice, I like the idea of lying about the route length, I’m the only one who rides with a Garmin so easily done!

Great idea about riding up the Muur to the chapel on the other day will definately include that.

    Hi.
Been thinking of this for quite a while and want to get an ID bracelet, would look to get something ‘stylish’ that I can wear all of the time – to cover daily commuting as well as training rides – and would be waterproof to wear in the shower.

I’ve looked on line and hard to judge the quality. What are all wearing? Any recommendations?

Perhaps he’s being advised by the York bus driver who hurled abuse at me (with a bus full of school kids) earlier for riding on the road rather than the cycle path on the curb.

Funnily enough I chose the uninterumpted mile stretch of road rather than the adjacent cycle lane that has eight separate lateral roads coming into the main road, stopping and starting (or slowing at least) constantly versus a straight run on the road? Easy choice for me and I chose to legally ride on the road.

Other threads have obv covered this recently but the speed of route is key for me and the majority of our cycle tracks simply don’t support the needs of many cyclists vers people on bikes.

Changed job earlier in the year and now cycle everywhere. Have a road bike and full suss for training / leisure riding / events and a second road bike as a commuter bike but spend most of the time riding my cargo bike (xtracycle) hauling shopping, kids etc etc.

I have access to my wife’s car but choose to ride instead, my wife keeps calling me a green hippy. Absolutely loving it.

Mont Blanc barracudas here. Tough and easy to instal and keep the bike upright even before all of the straps etc are put in place so easy to get the bike on and off. Works equally well for MTBs and road bikes.

The NYCC website says that the roads will be shut 1 hour before the publicity caravan arrives. The caravan passes by points approx 2 hours before the race arrives so you can reverse engineer it.

More important will be getting to Buttertubs early enough to get a good spot as it will be rammed.

We are going there too, driving from York to a point away from road closures – thinking Barnard Castle – then a good ride in to enjoy the experience – thinking up over the Stang to Tan Hill then down to Keld and upto Butter Tubs.

Thinking it needs to be very early though to ensure time for ride and to arrive early to get a good spot – thinking 3am!! It will be a good adventure!

    Great advice

I have a good set of bombproof rims that I bought as part of a BSA to cannabalise some parts, unfortunately I car booted the frame otherwise I could have used it. The rear disc aparently needs a 203 rotor on a 160 adaptor so need to check the parts bin for those. I have a nice set of rigid forks with disc mounts so fine there too.

Stoner, thinking of running single ring on the front like yours, are you running a chain device on yours as I think I can spot one but hard to make out.

Geology degree and concentrated on hydrology type modules as that’s what interested me. Did a hydrology msc(eng) degree after which opened up engineering and hydrology routes for me.

I have been a flood risk engineer and manager now for 15 years and love it.

Still interested in geology but have to admit I remember very little detail.

Manchester is a great geology department too.
