Just about to try a 2.3 minion dhf super tacky on the front and a 60a swamp thing on the rear bit of an odd mix but a mate reckons it works for him!
stevepitchFree MemberThe sense of freedom rocks but ultimately it’s got to be the time it gives me for myself (and to actually spend time with the wife away) from the rigours of normal life

stevepitchFree MemberHaving just gone through this with the mrs she ended up with a boardman fs team in small which she loves. She did originally have a Boardman Fi (which was sh!te) but we somehow managed to get it returned and swapped for the FS team
stevepitchFree MemberCant help with the tinging noise but you sure its not coming fromt he wheel rather then the forks?
Regsrding the lock out I’ve exprienced somthing similar with the wifes bike. I thought it was just where the oil on the damping side has moved into the chamber of the turnkey damper, you then lock it out with the oil inside meaning theres less oil in the leg meaning nothing for the damper to resist against hence doesnt work. Open the dmaper and the oil floods to the lower portion of the leg and appears to work again normally.
*TJ beat me to it and expressed it in far fewer words :D
Does that make sense?
stevepitchFree MemberSooooooooooo glad I didnt take the missus to Cannock yesterday but went to the peaks. Judging by this thread you go along and ride your bike, stop, ride some more, stop, ride a little further then get your iphone out and bitch about someone who got in your way/didnt get in your way but looked like they were going to get in your way but didnt get in your way but potentially could have got in your way while you where in there way!
Or have I got this wrong meaning im in someones way
:D
stevepitchFree MemberDidnt do cutgate but rode over the back of lady bower towards White Tor and Whinstone was really boggy up towards the top which was a shame but awsome none the less. I love the pearks but really need to work on my fitness had to push part of the climb up to white tor :( you guys that get to ride it regularly are lucky buggers :D
stevepitchFree MemberSorry HM but bit befuddled by the whole tubeless thing and I’ll be converting my normal rims and I thought you were talking about tubeless rims? Im going to be converting non tubeless rims can you just use electrical tape then???
Nuke cheers for the reply I was beginning to give up hope with this forum never seem to get that many replies to my questions :( (apart from HM abaove of course  ) I’ll have a look at the Rhyno Lite stuff but I dont get why you need the yellow tape!? Watching the NoTubes vid and it says install the rim strip over the existing rim strip if that makes sense :? or am I completely wrong (probably)
stevepitchFree MemberI was in dartmoor last week rode a loop out of princetown and despite heavy rain on the monday morning there were very few boggy sections.
Bloody awsome ride too, the dartmoor folk are very lucky :D
stevepitchFree MemberYeah i’m watching, not a lot seems to crop up though in a small and the female specific jobs seem really overpriced for a midget frame, saw a 2007 orange 5 diva go for a lot the other day (was nice tho)
stevepitchFree Memberforgive my ignorance but is the meta 4 cross the same as the 4.1? I found a review on it and it claims to be very good just a bit hard finding the sizing for the 2008 model.
Pitch rocks and I am watching a trek remedy on ebay too thing is im a bit tight a dont wont to spend loads on a new frame so was hoping for a secondhand job and the meta 4.1 has a starting price of £250 with no bids which I thought was good.
stevepitchFree MemberExcuse the delay and chees for the responses erm I suppose I want techy stuff what level are we talking? I unfortunately dont have a gps so thanks for the offer of routes but they wouldnt be of any use :(
Thing is im with the other half and she likes flowing singletrack and pretty views I suppose I like anything and i’ll ride pretty much anything (badly admitedly)
stevepitchFree MemberCheers for the responses guys given me some proper good ideas, Ive started to ride Surrey hills a lot so prob won’t be going there.
Shedful i may drop you a message re a loop round the devils punchbowl as I like the idea of that.
Strangely enough though we’re heading to the peak district (I know it’s more than 2 hrs and Jedi it’s your fault) as we have family up there so gonna tie in a sneaky double visit. So will probably be around the lady bower reservoir around 12 ish hopefully the weather will hold!
stevepitchFree MemberI once saw a guy walking along the beach with his bling full sus trek complete with wicker basket on the front think I’ve got a photo spmewhere
stevepitchFree MemberSorry should have said regularly ride Swinley and shes done the labyrinth and happily rides most stuff there. Also veen over to Surrey hills was thinking be nice to see somewhere north or with nice views (her words not mine :D )
stevepitchFree MemberCan I also point out before this gets into “LBS rips off new rider” content etc etc.
Other individuals who work in the shop have been very very helpful this single individual (who is always there) has put me right off and while yes I should go and have a chat tbh I just cant be arsed I would rather strike up a relationship with another shop rather than have to dodge said individual just to go and buy something.
stevepitchFree MemberMister P granted and point taken when I posted last night I was extremely miffed and posted in haste which I wouldn’t normally do.
In this day and age however why should I, as a paying customer, have to suffer because an individual tries to take the piss, there are other bike shops and if I have to traval a bit further afield to get something I have to travel.
People do make mistakes and if I felt this had been the case then I wouldnt have posted on here, this guy pulled out 2 tubes and said “£10 each as they are heavy duty downhill tubes” He made no mistake I can promise you that.
stevepitchFree MemberSo do you feel it is right and just to over charge a customer for a small item putting said customer off returning to the shop and purchasing larger more expensive items?
I fully understand the costs of running a shop it is expensive and as I stated I am all in favour of supporting my lbs but there is a point.
stevepitchFree MemberAm I not allowed to ask questions?
If you read my original post Mister P I hope that you will be able to see that I was asking a genuine question as I didnt know being new to the wolrd of bikes.
Maybe I will go in and have a chat but unfortunately the experience I’ve had doesnt exactly ecourage me to do so. Additionally I also pointed out that all the other employees are brilliant and the shop is let down by one individual.
*edit* gonzy thats actually what I was planning on doing
stevepitchFree Member*edit* as my comment was harsh – young guy with distinguishing features?
stevepitchFree MemberI think the worst thing about this is i’m all in favour of supporting the lbs, I know that may sound old fashioned, but by conducting themselves in this fashion I’m just not going to buy anything from them.
Both me and the wife have bikes and I have a bit of a thing for shiny bits of expensive metal so potentially there’s lots of money to be had from my pocket through both upgrades and repiars. I was planning on upgrading my brakes to Hopes which I know they stock but I’m not going to bother now in fact I remember the same guy quoting me £80 for a set of slx shifters plus £30 to fit them.
When I commented that another staff member had quoted £55 I was told “he’s old and doesnt have a clue”.
Oh well at least I’ve learnt early on I suppose
Cheers
stevepitchFree MemberThe guy new, it’s the owners son, I asked him for some heavy duty tubes and that’s what he produced. Tbh most people in the shop are very decent it’s this one guy who seriously let’s the side down!
stevepitchFree MemberThought so :( won’t be going there again and for reference I live in amersham and there’s not many shops to choose from!
@ Jedi these are def standard large spesh inner tubes!
stevepitchFree MemberI’m running a specialized pitch which has a similar’ish design and have just upgraded to a RP23 and tbh an RP2 would be just as good. I have played with the propedal settings and while its nice as I can alter the amount of effect I’m finding I’m leaving it on setting 2 and just flicking it on or off.
And def reckon the X2 as the paint job is a lot better :D
stevepitchFree MemberWasnt there a thread a while ago about someone wanting just thier bushes replaced / sorted and I think Loco now offers the service if you send him your lowers he’ll sort the bushes out.
But as spoon said contact Fisher first, In my mind it should be irrelevant if the forks are a replacement as they should still have a warranty on them.
stevepitchFree MemberSo after a bit of a chat twist shifters are being considered – so any recommendations for which ones to look at?
Also whats the crack with fitment on the bar she has Juicy 3’s and the x5 leavers all fit nice and neat!?
Cheers
stevepitchFree MemberCheers for the response guys unfortunately she’s tried grip shift before (admitedly on a “£99 halfords special”) and they werent really set up properly so she wasnt very keen.
Looks like I’ll have lots of shifters for sale very soon as she tries everything out 8O
stevepitchFree Member5Lab thats an even better idea and a bit cheaper too as I already have one
stevepitchFree MemberCheers guys thats exactly what I wanted to hear.
PP good point I did think about going 34t as she’s only wee with little legs and thought 36t may be a bit much for her then leave the inner ring as 22t.
Cheers
stevepitchFree MemberNo guilt as the mrs normally comes with and she used to put up with me surfing so the 3hr ride is nothing compared to being mia all day :D
stevepitchFree MemberRenault Clio 1.5 DCi I get between 65 – 70mpg taking it easy, 60ish with a bit more vavavoom  takes 2 bikes and load sof sh!te easy
stevepitchFree MemberCheers for the responses guys;
Timmys I read the review seemed pretty spot on to me although I wouldnt say the Ario shock is terible just a little dull and small bump control is a bit lacking. In contrast I think the Sektors are fairly good ive upgraded them with a moco damper (the one with the floodgate control) and they seem more than enough for me. I did think about a coil, but at the mo I’m doing more general riding around than full blown lunacy so figured the RP23 would be a good choice.
Stevede its good to hear your thoughts, I was thinking of trying to find an rp2 but thought I may as well go the whole hog with the rp23 and for the price even if I send it off for service and to get it push’d its still going to fall a fair amount short of a new one so think I may as well, it cant hurt :-)
Singletrackhor look on tftuned they were doing van Rc’s for 250 notes or there abouts I did consider one but as I’m just bumbling around swinley at the mo I thought it would be massive overkill (well for me anyways) maybe in a years time
cheers
