If it’s in good condition for the age/mileage is the MOT provenance really that important ? It’ll have a fresh one; if you are really concerned ask for the MOT to be done by a 3rd party at your cost. Sounds like it was probably kept on private land to me; I think everyone’s overthinking it :D

I just make sure I co-locate my phone and spare tube in the same pocket; car key goes under the tube if I’ve driven to the start – which is unusual. Then it’s tools on the left, food on the right.

I just changed a BB with the exact same symptoms, it felt fine with the chain off, but the new one is totally silent, so it was definitely the issue !

    Sixth element wheels

Jesus christ graham is having your pants down there

You can buy those exact same carbon wheels I mean exact from at least 3 other uk companies for 40% less

Now I can’t speak for the provenance of the rims he uses, but given he hand builds them onto the hubs of your choice, I’m not sure that really stands up to much scrutiny. You can query the vfm for sure, but he’s not selling on china-made wheelsets.

*Disclaimer – I have a set of Sixth Element carbon road wheels, that were very definitely hand laced onto Hope RS4 hubs for me.

U.S.E Summits sound like they would fit the bill, but at 225 are slightly over budget..  I got mine from the outlet store for about 40 quid I think, so keep your eye out 😁

I got the Offbondage D3-1000 for road use based on the recommendations on here; it’s been great; mounts on a gopro mount under my garmin

ROCKBROS D3-1000 my new 1000 lumen USB-C £17 GoPro mount STVZO* light

Cheap as chips too; about £20 IIRC

    Snake oil IMO.

Maybe; but I find them comfy; and it’s not like they are particularly expensive vs other technical socks. I’d go with “not for everyone”; but anecdotally; I’ve worn them for years and never suffered with blisters; YMMV :D

If you don’t already wear them; I find the 1000 mile double layer socks great for avoiding chafage of the feet:

Men's Fusion Double Layer Anklet Sock – 2026

I’d grab a pair of those; and stick a compeed over the affected area as well.

Ultimately; it might be a bit too late; and you’re probably going to have to clean the blood off the inside of your shoes :D

    Good luck !

I was gifted an ifixit kit, it’s been pretty bloody handy and the bits are not made of cheese…

£26 but lifetime warranty and goes down to ph000

They are similar priced to Orro – you can pick up a DA Di2 Venturi for just over £5k – even Ribbles are only on Ultegra at that price point !

I presume there was some financial reason why they stopped offering Shimano; presumably the new owners have coughed up enough (guarantees ?) for them to be allowed to order it again ?

Curve ball; but you could stop in at Leeds Urban Bike Park on your way past J28 on the M62; it’s only 10 mins off the motorway and worth an hour or two if you’ve never been before.

    *Edit*

It’s got the advantage of being surfaced and copes reasonably well in the wet bar the odd boggy puddle

I’d say get a Briard; but only if you have a spare couch for it; enjoy the odd 10km tow-run and love brushing hair.

I dislike the sensation of gels with a passion – so I use Clif Blox instead, I find them much more palatable and less sticky 😁

Just buy a new chain, even a cheap one will be better than a rusty one !

    All in pockets; from L-R

Spare tube, pump, CO2 inflator + spare cart, multi-tool, tyre levers, tubeless repair kit + emergency £10

    Waterproof

Phone + Food. 1x Clif bar + 1x Clif blox per hour in the saddle unless it’s a sub 2-hour ride; in which case I don’t bother

If it’s hot and sunny; I spread things out a bit more and leave the waterproof; usually phone + tube into middle pocket; and the right being food only.

I may be over doing this. :D

If you aren’t too worried about tracking it ‘live’ (or you have your phone mounted where you can see it) – you could borrow/buy a Bluetooth heart rate strap and simply pair that with your phone.

It would be a lot cheaper than a cheap GPS/HR watch anyway !

beaten to it by DickB !

I don’t think any of them are terrible; just beware that the max simulated gradient is usually based on a particular weight; so if you are over that you might find it can’t quite simulate what you’d expect. Equally; if you weigh the same as a feather it can simulate tougher grades than it claims.

For me; I went with a DiretoX; it’s been great !

It’s easy/cheap if you assume that all the faffage time is “free”. I’d imagine you could have it colour matched; professionally sprayed and refitted for less than a ton*. That’s worth a few hours of your time; hence easier.

    All IMHO of course !

*It’s a long time since I ever had something like this done; I might be miles out on price

I might be missing something here … But would it not be easier to take it to a local body shop to be sprayed ?

A friend is still riding my old Marin, Hope hubs, Mavic X517 Lemon rims, they must be circa 1999 hand built by Biketreks in Gt Ayton (alas, no longer there)

Have you tried running the bios reset/autoconfig ?

Wouldn’t surprise me if the memory timings from your previous sticks are causing issues

Just saw the ad for the new PX Aero bike, the E130. It’s not quite the bargain basement pricing we’re used to but I’ve gotta say it does look pretty nice … Clean lines and subtle (for PX) paint scheme ..

Yeah; that goes with what I suspected; you’re using near enough the full 4GB of RAM just opening Chrome. 16Gb will probably fix your problems and buy you a few years if you are otherwise happy with the performance :)

You might see a small benefit as modern window managers all use compositing, but it’s unlikely to be earth shattering if you’re not doing anything with 3d

Ubuntu is always fairly miserly when it comes to allocating a swap file, so you’re likely running out of memory. As a test, add a large (say 12Gb) swap file to your existing system and see if that fixes the crashes (at the expense of speed)

Fwiw – I’ve got a far older setup in the living room which I use for gaming, runs like a champ but it does have 16Gb ram and a reasonable gfx card

I was having this for ages on my Garmin, make sure you have your heart rate zones set correctly, including your resting heart rate. As soon as I updated mine it stopped telling me that a 4 hour ride was easy and only needed 10 hours recovery and started to make sense !

Some stuff on AliExpress is fake, the bulk is just unknown/Chinese brands (some of whom are less than scrupulous I guess) – YBN are a known chain brand (I think MSW pre waxed chains are YBN) from Taiwan – As long as you aren’t going for “stuff that’s clearly a knock off” I think you’re generally ok – at least, I have been anyway 😁

I’m much less trusting around random eBay accounts selling cheap chains tbh …

I’ve just picked up a YBN chain from AliExpress to replace my GX chain; just over £40; looks awesome can’t wait to give it a try – I’ve heard good things about them.

Carbon Wasp did an aftermarket one; but I don’t see them on the web shop anymore; they might be able to sort you out if you contact them (though they are spendy)

FWIW I use an XL Cotic guard on mine with zip ties; does the job :)

When did you buy it ? It looks like the catalog pages of that site might have been preserved; just not the actual van specific page; it might help ?

Hopefully it’s just a blip – as many others; I’ve had great service from them (two PX bikes in the shed) and I was looking forward to seeing the new Helm they announced in the flesh; It looks like it could be superb for the money.

As a native of smogland; I both love and hate the place. The town (or at least parts of it) are terrible; I still have flashbacks to having a crash whilst commuting and being more worried about being stopped in the area I was in than the snapped teeth and blood coming out. I was back for a visit recently; and it’s somehow worse and better than I remember it at the same time.

I’m with Mr NotSpoon though. It’s all about the surrounding area; Saltburn, Gt Ayton, Stokesley and the hills beyond. I love the area; dislike the town :D

Fair play to Roglic, that was an immense ride. G was best of the rest, it’s not like he had a terrible run. Shame ! I suspect it might have been closer without the mechanical, it looked like he threw caution to the wind after that !

I reckon it’s about half an hour; though I don’t ever time it. Just chuck the chain on top; switch it on then remember I left it on sometime later; grab the chain and chuck it in a cermic plantpot to let it cool. glfwax sell a swisher (a piece of wire with a screw connector on) which sits out the wax and makes retrieval simple. I’ll time it next time and let you know !
