My comment on the brakes was based on previous experience with those Tektro cable brakes. I PITA. Needed constant adjusting. Anyway, I’ll be off to have a nosy at that Saracen in the next day or two.

    Walking? I’ll pass ;)

I’ve cycled to work before (I lived further away at the time, 6 miles) on my Meta and it was fine. But I’d like to keep that bike for it’s purpose and not use it for commuting – it gets used enough as it is.

We have a shower in work, though it’s currently out of order but I’m working on getting it sorted and I would keep my work clothes in work when possible (office environment, smart casual at worst)

First 55 entrants with application forms fully completed get to enter next years event. Pot luck indeed.

I’ve been following it closely on dirt/pinkbike etc, love these enduro type races.

I have a Dakine Zypher rain jacket, so it’s a softshell for the cold days I’m after. Looking at this, but Mavic are relatively new to the clothing scene. Looks good though…

Get a swear box. Keep it beside you. You’ll have enough pounds in it to buy a complete bike once you’re finished.

    Good luck! :D

I’m very much trapped. Renting, no spare cash to save for a house, it’s not looking good in that part of my life. But, I still have a job and I’m getting buy okay. Having my own home would be really nice, someday mayeb, but there’s not much I can do right now. Oh, and having a naughty £20k loan isn’t helping either!

I had a big issue with oral medication. I refused to believe it helped, even though I was being told that there was a ‘physical’ problem with me – some kind of chemical imbalance. The tablets sure did something, generally making me drowsy, lose my appetite etc. I stopped over a year ago, didn’t wean myself off them. Did me no harm.

Some very interesting posts. No need for me to say about my own condition, it’s a mixture of a lot of the conditions described by you lot. My biggest fear? That it’s a weakness and makes you less of a person than the next. I’m incredibly hard on myself, to the point that I wont even ride in fear of not going as fast as possible and riding perfectly on every trail. That’s just one example. In reality, all I see is a normal person, who hasn’t excelled at anything, and that’s the big block.

Not very far, but to some fantastic places and met some fantastic people, Scotland for example. Yes, even the people were nice.

I work in the photographic industry and could not recommend anyone to become a photographer as a career

    Quite a deafitist attitude?

Solution to the ‘problem’? Be different than others.

    make sure you buy 2009

Now, why would you do that considering the issues were 2009 frames?

Chris, give Steve at Real Cycles a call. Don’t think he is the Commy rep here in NI anymore, but he has old stock at good prices. Worth a call. I had the 2009 problem, crack infront of the seat tube weld. Now have a 2010 frame, almost 1 year with no issues.

Another shout for the mudlovers. Had mine in for a few weeks now, faultless. Handy enough to fit too, though I found the outer slightly tougher than the standard Shimano, so make sure you have good cutters.

Al, I bought mine because I was getting problems with sticky shifting, and on taking out the old inners, they were very dirty, the ferrules were bad too.

On my 4th pair, no problems so far. They don’t seem to have the ‘bite’ of the originals, but they’re great value for money. And you can’t beat free Haribo. Ever.

I don’t believe in God. And some of the Science stuff doesn’t make sense to me either. So, i’ll just wander along and get on with my life, and maybe one day, I’ll find out what the craic is with it all!. In the mean time, there’s much more important things to be worrying about.

If he is actually your mate, he’ll understand your reasons for not going. Two years ago I was faced with two stag do’s in the space of a month and had to turn one down. I was the best man for one, and a close friend of the other. Didn’t turn out to be a problem. £1-2k on a stag is crazy money, for me anyway.

No bike for me this weekend, and missing the EPIC Blast ride in Co Wicklow this weekend, so I’m in a foul mood and not leaving the house.

Not keeping my rather brilliant liquid yellow Clio 182.

Yes, the colour is important. Worth an extra 0.09867 bhp.

The common ground is keeping fit and active and doing ‘sports’. Doesn’t really matter what they are, how often they happen, or if you choose to do them together.

I’m still waiting for Jessica Ennis to call me.

Thanks guys. Rim isn’t cracked at all, few scuffs, but nothing serious. That’s exactly what I’m trying to weigh up, re-build with new rim vs labour for straightening it.
