Yea, it’s very good when implemented correctly. Big step up from OPC UA.

In the sensor world, it takes text info from the sensor IODD file (from IO-Link world) for conditioning and monitoring. You can live track what your sensors are doing, levels in tanks etc, sensors on conveyor lines. Your sensors are connected to a master, and that then works on a server/client basis.

Nice thread! I have done bits of PLC programming, granted it was 15 odd years ago and it was DOS based. It has moved on massively. I’m a technical sales engineer for a sensor company and things are moving at a great pace. Currently looking at MQTT/IO-Link/OPC UA cloud based solutions. Didn’t think we would be at this point with sensors 20 years ago.

For PID, would a dedicated PID controller not work?

@tall_martin Hero 7 Black. Think settings were 2.7k, superwide, and 30fps. Editing counts too, bit rates etc.

I had an original Hero HD, then a Hero 4 Silver and now a Hero 7 black. HD to silver was a nice step up in resolution and features. But the big jump was the stabilisation of the most recent series. If the content is good and the setup is good, they are much more watchable. I found where it is mounted so important. For this video for example, it is mounted on the chin piece of my full face.

Get outside, in any way you can. I’m struggling as usual, but the sunshine and longer days is helping. I’m going to ride my HT tonight, but were I would normally try and do a certain distance/climbing/technical/speed type ride, I’m just going out to ride along the Mersey paths. Just to be out, because that can help lift the mood, and in turn fill you with a little bit of motivation.

Right big lad, get the wing mirrors folded in and the foot down. My Tacx axle is probably on that ship and it’s already late.

I think it was an okay race. I really hope there is a season long battle for the top spot rather than hoping Hamilton slips up and someone catches.

I feel sorry for Vettel. He seems a shadow of his former self. Even the tone of his voice in interviews is very muted.

I know this was a race at night but I found it hard to tell the difference between some cars from the front, like the Alfa Tauri and the Aston head on.

especially at first when it feels like you’ve got a small alien in the house that you don’t understand, wails at night, won’t crap where you want it to, bites anything and everything, scratches, barks at random things, seems hungry all the time even after being fed, eats things it shouldn’t, sicks up things it shouldn’t have eaten, pees in the most expensive places…

    Absolutely cannot wait.

    Its hard work

We’re about to get a cocker puppy, end of next week. Very much ready to put the work in, but I’m really really anxious about it all. I hope there are more good days than bad.

My gf has wanted a dog all her life, and she has been on a waiting list from last June.

Same. People around me are planning to get together when they can, make plans for summer, and I don’t want to do any of that. Living in your own house in fear is just the new normal for me now.

I had been skiing in Austria at the end of Feb. Got home on the 29th and a few folks in the airport had masks on. I hadn’t really got a grasp on what was happening. Then I was due to travel back home to NI/Ireland with work for a week in the 2nd week of March. That was cancelled and all international travel within our company was banned. Then it happened. I work from home anyway, but I couldn’t visit customers for months. Furloughed for 3 weeks in April/May.

I remember listening to this podcast. He was right about many things, but maybe his timescales were a bit off. Even when he mentioned 3-6 months I was shocked. And here we are not knowing when it will end.

Big problem here in south Manchester. There seems to be a bit of a police presence around these parts, but it’s almost impossible to catch these guys in the act. So they will continue to do it without consequence. The sooner I can afford to move out of the city the better.

I believe parkrun is due to start in the coming months? I know plenty of people who will be very happy to see it start again. Maybe my running will have come back by then.

Well neither of my parents drove. So my granda who lived around the corner from us, who worked for Ford, has a lot to answer for. I felt very emotional watching those pieces. He passed away late 2019 and he made me the petrolhead I am today. And a Ford man. He used to pretty much get a new one every year. Always got the new models. There isn’t enough room for me to type out a list! A personal favourite was the Mk1 Focus when it launched. He went for the Ghia model as normal and it had the 2.0 Zetec lump in it, 125hp I think. I spent so much of my childhood in the car with him. I’d go round to his just to get a run to the shops and be in the car. I used to borrow his keys and go and pretend to drive the car in his driveway. In the early days I often flooded the engine in the days before fuel injection.

The stand out car story about him was that he was almost killed when hit by an Army ‘pig’ truck on his way home from work. We lived very near a flash point in Belfast and the Ford plant was in a nationalist area. He had a short drive home, maybe 5 minutes, into a loyalist area. There were a lot of patrols going on. Anyway, he never wore his seatbelt for the short journey. It was a green Capri. One day he was going through the corssroads and the Army pig went through a red light and hit him. The car was unrecognizable. He lost one of his ears which was later sowed back on and was told if he was wearing this seatbelt he would have been killed as the impact threw him into the passenger footwell and protected him. Needless to say, he always wore a seatbelt after that and he always told me to make sure I wore mine.

I miss him every day. I’m off to look at old Fords on Pistonheads.

Isn’t in vitro different? Anyway, I’ll remain ever pessimistic like poopscoop. We’re all at different stages of vaccination programmes.

    @Sandwich

    That article is truly terrifying.

How is the vaccination going in Brazil? I know the vaccine offers limited protection against the P1 variant.

My parents were vaccinated yesterday. Another step in the right direction, I hope.

keep people on a constant state of nervous tension…

Maybe this is a deliberate tactic to get us to adhere to the rules? I understand some of what is reported is useful.

I think I have definitely developed a few new problems over the last year that I didn’t have before. Many people will be the same I’m sure.

I’ve hit the wall again this week with anxiety. I think coming up on a year of all this now has definitely changed me. I’ve noticed my social anxiety is much worse now too. Last night I went shopping by myself in a fairly empty store and I was a wreck when I got back into my car. Friends are starting to talk and plan getting together at the end of the month and I’m already worried about seeing people in close quarters. Not for fear of catching the virus, just being around people. December was the last time I rode my bike with others and even thinking about that makes me feel a bit uneasy. But also, the constant news stream about variants and vaccine issues really saps any glimmer of hope out of me.

I could definitely see local restrictions coming in over the course of the year. Not nationwide.

I was out on a rare site visit today, which was great actually, and the roads were pretty much as I’d expect them to be at normal times. But it was nice to be out in the car and interacting with people again like I’m used too. Customer had a very nice 456 EVO Ti!

Took a run over to Marple from the house again on Saturday. Was surprisingly dry on the trails. Total loop is around 42 miles which includes a mile 10 loop around Marple.

I think it’s clear to a minority that this is far from over. This year is the litmus test of vaccines. The next winter could be just as harsh as what we’ve just gone through. My anxiety is all over the shop. Some days I’m alright and the next day I’m really quite bad. It’s very hard to feel settled these days about what is around the corner.

I really don’t think we will be anywhere near normality at the end of June.

Numbers still going in the right direction again today, under 5000 cases in a long time.

What sort of rise in cases are we likely to see now schools are back? If we see a certain rise, will the government be too cautious and push the dates out?

I bought an Endurance AL back in 2019. It was my first road bike. I’d popped into the shop in Preston beforehand and it was a nice setup. Order was placed and got a call a few days before it was due to say it was really for collection. When I got there, the guy showing me around the bike found the front axle to be faulty (can’t remember the specifics) and was very apologetic and got it replaced there and then. So, good all round experience for me. Have had the bike almost 2 years now with no issues.

I know a few peoples heads that will explode at that sentence. Couple of NI comedians do a conspiracy theory podcast and the Vanderbilts are regularly discussed.

Well my tendonitis in my knee that would hopefully heal in 2-3 weeks has now been dragging on over 2 months. Can’t do more than 10 strides and I’m in pain. No pain when walking, or going up and down stairs.

Great news from home this morning, my parents getting their first jab on Saturday. Huge relief. With my girlfriend and her parents vaccinated, that leaves me now.

    stcolin

I’m trying to find the article. As I said, it was maybe more down to the wording that it sounded like more young are in hospital as an absolute number.

My girlfriend had her jab on Saturday morning. She was pretty unwell on Saturday evening and is still not 100% today but feeling much better. But the WiFi in the house is now much faster.

It appears to be happening in Israel, more young in hospital this time around. Could be the wording in the reporting, but it’s slightly worrying.

I read a very interesting article on virulence with time for a virus. There is some evidence to say this happens, but not always. Myxomatosis a case in point.

    stcolin
    Free Member

So, what is the real life worry? Is it going to become as deadly to the young like it was to the elderly (similar to the Spanish Flu)? Surely the virus will be constantly looking to target the weakest and at this point or in the near future that will be those who are not vaccinated?

Ah, the peril of having long legs. I have some Endura singletrack trousers in large. They’re about 2 inches too short at the bottom. I’m 6ft 1″ with a 35″ inseam.

It’s a problem with trousers in general. Go to NEXT or somewhere to buy suit trousers for work and they never have 34L for me. But tons of odd sizes that never seem to shift. You’d think manufacturers would notice the demand in certain sizes.
