Both are fantastic places to ride, lots of off piste riding and man made trails.

I don’t really understand how a valve can become loose. It’s a very simple part. The nut can only be screwed finger tight. The Nukeproof seems an odd shape, rectangular with chamfered edge. Stans are round, which seems obvious.

I’m thinking about using a Stans No Tubes valve instead of the NP one. Is there any reason why this wouldn’t work?

It’s a Nukeproof tubeless valve. It appears to be on the outside of the rim from what I removed, underneath the valve nut.

So… attempt number 3 at taping my wheel. First couple of attempts and I was getting too many folds and creases. Think I have managed better this time, only taping a few inches at a time. There are still a lot of small air pockets, but no creasing.

I also found that the valve on my rear wheel of the other troublesome wheel seems to be damaged. I think the o-ring is gone and that is where it has been leaking.

Nice thread. I had my Commencal Meta 55. White frame, it was originally black but of course it cracked and was replaced under warranty. This is March 2011 complete with Swampthing front and not a dropper in sight.

I’ve really neglected my photography over the years. I need to buck my ideas up and make some more time for it. Enjoy the nifty fifty when it arrives!

Yip, definitely going to get worse before it gets better. I work for manufacturer, and we are seeing more and more dates going in 2022 now. Raw Materials is the biggest issue. We have capacity, although we have had staffing issues at certain sites, but we are just so far behind it’s unreal. My day to day job is now just managing customers and giving them the bad news on deliveries.

The current 50mm 1.8 is an STM, I’m guessing you’re on the older (mk2?) version. I had the mk2 replaced with mk3

Ah yes, you’re absolutely right. Shows how long I have had my 50! I think it was broken from a drop once and repaired. Still going strong, despite the all plastic body and mount.

The nifty fifty probably won’t be much good for video, I believe it still uses the old DC focus motor. It sounds fairly clunky in AF to me. The newer kit lenses use the more quiet STM type. The little 50mm f1.8 is a great lens, still always have it in my bag whenever I go out.

Sounds like the usual ‘aye, it’s cos you run’ bollocks

Well, about 6 1/2 years ago I started running. As in, on the roads a couple of times a week. I eventually completed 2 marathons, couple of halves, and got into fell running. Then burst 2 discs. This was after playing football for over 20 years, training 2/3 times a week and never collected anything worse than a couple of muscle strains or knocks. Running was certainly a big contributing factor to my back issues, pounding on hard pavements for miles and miles. The trail and fell running was much better for my back, and a much more enjoyable way to run. But I’ve stopped running now, it’s taken its toll on everything from my lower back down. Someday I’d like to get back into trail running, but for now I’m taking a break from it.

Well, our power grid is much more “decarburised” than any of the places that manufacture all of the crap we used, so if we hadn’t killed off our manufacuring industry, then that would be a great solution

Would it? I assume you know why it isn’t made here.

So, what happens to the hundreds of millions of people emplyed in the manufacturing of these items? If we stop flying, what about all those people? Where do they all get emplyed? In the local artisan coffee shops?

one of the single best things you can do is stop buying imported electronic goods

And buy them from the home based manufacturers instead?

Always good to have plans to not be around when it really kicks off. I certainly wouldn’t want to having children now. We’ve been steering into this with our foot to the floor, eyes closed, since the industrial revolution. Nice one, humans.

It appears out of all the above descents, I’ve done one of them. Nan Bield. And the top bits were too hard for me, but once in the switchbacks and below it was pretty good.

Unlocking now starting to show in the case numbers, just starting to rise again.

Spoke to the receptionist at my work last week when visiting, and her daughter caught COVID on holiday (assumed). She had been working in the UAE as a teacher where they only have the Chinese vaccine on offer. She didn’t want it because of fertility concerns, as was the opinion of most of her friends in the UK no matter what the vaccine. Based on what is being shared on social media. It seems that some young folk might be tough nuts to crack.

Thanks all. Will order some of the Stans 30mm tape.

As for other tips, is it easier to do with the wheel still on the bike and the bike upside down, or remove it? I’m not blessed with a wheel stand.

    Thanks scotroutes.

FWIW WTB recommend that tape should be around 3mm wider than the rim internal measurement

Spec for the Stans Flow S1 shows 29mm internal width and 30mm tape used. So, who is right? Either way, the 30mm tape should cover me for both wheels.

So, I’m resurrecting this thread. The woes continue, this time on another rim.

On Saturday morning I was due to head out and discovered the new front tyre (Minion DHF) I’d fitted to my Flow S1 on the Reign was flat. I had fitted it a couple of weeks previous and done one ride on it. No problems at all before or during the ride. Anyway, start to pump it up and it’s not holding air. It’s pissing out through the valve. After a lot of swearing I took the tyre off. Valve looked fine, tape looked fine. But in my anger just ripped the tape of in prep for fitting new stuff and a new valve.

I’m not convinced at all. I’ve never fitted rim tape, and no doubt I’ll balls it up.

On the Nukeproof wheel I topped up the sealant. Made no difference. I’m also going to re-tape that one and potentially fit a new valve. But, I have an issue. My Flow S1 has an internal width of 29mm and the Nukeproof is 28mm. Stands recommends 30mm tape for the Flow. Will 30mm tape be okay for the Nukeproof too?

Although to be honest, I’m thinking of going back to tubes. I think tubeless is absolute garbage IMO.

In the few shops I’ve been in since the weekend, mask wearing seems to be the same as always. Only a couple of people not wearing them. Seems totally normal these days. I guess that’s what nearly 18 months of wearing one does to you.

Nothing recent, as I’ve only been on my MTB’s a couple of times in 6 months and that has been on very tame trails.

But, my last visit to Golfie in September. Again, I hadn’t been riding and I was finding the easiest trails there very hard. I stopped multiple times and walked a few sections that I’d ridden before. Can’t see myself getting back to where I was before.

The Husky Nuda is a great bike, if you can find one. I blame Royal Jordanian for that!

Put some more miles on the Trident over the weekend. This weather is great, roads are bone dry and mostly gravel free at the moment. Although maybe a bit hot when sitting in traffic……

This is going to be an almighty **** u

I heard from a friend at home who is good mates with a consultant in Belfast. Some of the worst cases they have had this wave are all in their 20’s and double jabbed.

Keep your hands inside the car at all times. It’s might be a rough ride.

So, yes, strap yourselves in like I said.

I genuinely think we are f*#ked and will be in this see-saw world for another few years. I don’t know how economies will cope. Many are already at the bottom of the barrel. I feel more anxious now than I did last year. Optimism crept in at the start of this year, but it feels like we are heading back to the depths of heavy restrictions in a couple of weeks.

It’s all consuming. Everything is effected by this. Had almost got the smallest level of motivation to go for a bike ride tomorrow but now I just not interested.

Have you read some of the other tweets from that guy? Saying that thousands of deaths are due to the vaccines. More people dying of that than the actual virus. Or am I missing something?

I think this thread has shattered my peak anxiety from the early days of the Covid thread.

When I was younger I genuinely used to get anxious about what the world would be like when I was older. Looks what we have done to the planets resources in 200 years. Even a simpleton like me can see that it just can’t keep going without something seriously going wrong. I try to put my faith in science, and that it will provide us with the right keys to keep us going as a species. But it is so hard to feel positive given the state of the place now.

I’m off to bed, I’ve had enough of this day.

Well it’s fairly nailed on that we will have restrictions again. I think sooner than winter if I’m honest. Looking at the global pictures, cases rises up and again and deaths. Just shows that vaccinations overall are nowhere near the levels needed to open up international boarders. What, 2-3 years before that ever fully returns?
