Yes, common around here in all the time I’ve lived here. We’ve had doors kicked, windows broken, cars broken into, cars vandalised, property vandalised, the lot. But it is South Manchester.

Growing up in Belfast with ‘certain individuals’ living in estates, low level crime just never happened, in my estate at least. There was a lot to be said for local vig…policing.

It’ll be an FR24 glitch, happens all the time. Barton is a grass airfield indeed, so will not have a 737 operating from it.

I joined a club, met some cool people and am now riding more regularly than ever

I’m in a ‘club’ but it isn’t much of a club. A shame, because it can be a great way to get out. Didn’t help that most of the rides were 2 hours drive to the Lakes.

Looking like Conte. Didn’t he reject an offer before based on ‘personal’ terms, previously?

Yip, asking the same question too.

Different circumstances. I really miss it, but I just can’t find motivation to make time for it. My fitness is probably the main contributing factor. I’m as unfit as I have ever been, by quite some margin.

Niggling injuries don’t help, but I think I often use them as excuses not work on it.

I have a Scotland trip next April with mates from home, I really need to get fit for that otherwise I won’t enjoy the riding.

Let’s see, maybe I can turn this around.

    Good luck.

I thought Colin had been delivering trees at Shannon and had seen it

I could only get 3 in the back of the Octavia, so it wasn’t viable. I called the Ukrainians and they were available.

Just heading back after delivering a load of Christmas trees at Shannon. She has been fairly active over the last 12 months.

Hummvee waterproof trousers have arrived. They are definitely more of an over trouser, so this winter will require something under them. Quite baggy, good fit in the waist and definitely longer than my previous old Singletrack trousers.

In what world is an entry level model £5.5k? MTB pricing is getting more bonkers every year, even with COVID tax.

The grey and yellow looks really nice though.

    This knee injury is relentless…

Out for another 5k last night. It actually felt okay for the first 2 miles. Got to 3 miles and the pain came back, but this time a sharp shooting pain from the top of the calf into the back of me knee. I was finishing the run so walked back slowly. No pain today, but a bit of tightness. Think it’s time for a scan…

Ahhh okay. I know where that is now. I’ve always avoided that area really, too many walkers. I did do a nice decent from that point a couple of years back, don’t know which one on the list above it was.

I’ve been up around that area quite a bit, where the heck is Hollins Cross? I really do need to learn the names of these places and trails….

Regarding heart rate, I’m much the same. At ‘easy’ pace, which these days is around 8:30/9:00mm my heart rate is in the 160’s. Compare that to when I ran my last marathon a few years ago, my average HR was 160 over the distance and 7:50mm!

Heading out tonight for another 5k….

Good timing. Just ordered some Endura Humvee Waterproof trousers, L. I have some old Singletrack trousers, maybe 10+ years old, and they are too short but an inch. I can wear them, but I always wanted them to be longer. I’m guessing sizing has changed in that time. I’m 6ft 1″ with a very long inside leg.

Have a Petzl Reactiv+, just got myself a Qark. Petzl seems brighter, but the Qark has a more even level of light throughout its adjustable spot. It’s also lighter than the Petzl.

Oh, and I know the Qark is rated with more lumens. The Petzl has more adjustments, from spot diameter to brightness and changes with ambient light changes which helps save battery. The Qark has a simple spot adjuster.

I watched one of those Fenrir videos on “the worst pulling dog I’ve ever seen” or something and thought it was so hilarious I was driven to comment on the video saying something along the lines of “If you think that’s bad pulling, you’ve not experienced bad pulling!”

Yes!!! Think I’ve watched the same video and howled with laughter.

Slip lead in on the agenda. Still to decide.

training a puppy to wait for you to give it permission before it tucks into its food bowl

Yes, he does this perfectly now. Took a while to get right.

Yea, I’ve looked at their videos and many others. Tried so many methods. Have picked up a couple of things that work at times, but not enough to be making any difference outside the house.

Oh, and here he is back in May when he was 4 months old. I may have had some chicken in my pocket….

Very nice. Reminds me of when Murphy was 8 weeks when we collected him. WCS first time owner here, see other recent thread for details….

We have changed food 3 times now. Other than his stools still being all over the place, there has been no change. He gets lots of mental stimulation. We rarely feed him out of his bowl. We have a big snuffle mate which he loves, or we feed him from hand using commands and training. I’ve just fed him his lunch by hiding little piles of it in the room and getting him to sniff it out.

One thing he nailed from the start was toilet training. We had 2 accidents in the house and that was it. He is great at telling us when he needs to go and we haven’t had an issue since those very early accidents. Both were beside the back door and we didn’t read the signs.

Haven’t gone as far as a behaviorist. He is pretty good in the house, does well with commands and training and is pretty relaxed and chilled out most of the time. He is in his secondary teenage fear stage so is barking a lot at random noises etc.

It’s when he is outside he is just so so difficult.

We have also tried taking him to busy areas, sitting and watching and rewarding quiet behaviour but he just gets so worked up and wants to go and play with other dogs and say hello to people that we need to start moving. I’ve gone passed hoping he will grow out of it. Friends have a very similar cocker who was manic for the first 6 months but now couldn’t care less about other dogs and walks off lead really nicely.

He gets exposure to lots of dogs and people, has been to a lot of training classes, but nothing sticks.

Anyway, this is not a normal dog OP, so I’m sure you will do just fine with the majority of advice.

Another is “touch” put your hand out for his nose to touch on recall. Also rewarded

Works really well on Murphy. Inside. But when this dog goes outside, zero anything. No recall, no manors, no nothing. Walking him is a nightmare, his pulling is horrendous and the various methods that have been worked on for every single walk have yielded no results. He does not ignore any dogs, in fact he will want to go to every dog he sees and nothing that I do will stop him or get him away. No high value treats, no whistle, no nothing. There have been too many stressful and embarrassing incidents already that I hate walking him. It’s so demoralising. He is nice to be around. When he’s sleeping or exhausted.

I have nothing to offer. 9 month old (almost) mental working cocker spaniel is the most tiring and challenging thing ever. Still waiting for the nice moments of owning a dog.

You’ll need the patience of a saint. Actually, a bus load of saints.

    Good luck.

Running helped your recovery from herniated discs? My back problems and subsequent slipped discs were certainly helped along by running.

Running slower definitely helps with endurance and recovery but in my experience doesn’t make you faster.

Why did being a petrolhead become a thing? Because cars go fast, which is fun. All the other stuff about oily smells, gear changing and noise is just by association with speed and thrills

You really do come out with some crackers.

I’m a big petrolhead and I still have zero interest in EV’s. A few people have told me I need to drive one.

Although a couple of recent rides through Aderley Edge suggests that the Taycan is selling well.

I’d say out of about 60/70 cars in the housing development where I live, there are 3 EV’s and maybe 2/3 hybrids.

Can’t think of anything worse than a Parkrun right now. Just too many people.

My lump behind my knee has come back again. Getting info on a Bakers cyst is not good reading. Basically, live with it. Problem is, I can’t run longer than about 5km without getting sharp shooting pains from it.

Can’t offer anything other than with just less than a year to go until my own 40th, I’ve given up on close friendships. I’ve come to the conclusion that most people don’t a f*#k about you, and like this fella, once he gets bored with one thing he’ll come running back. Have been burnt by that a few times.

    Good luck.

Not a Brera, but I like this. And the 159 is still a fine looking car.

The t-spark petrol engines are really nice, free revving and sound great for a 4 cylinder. I know this particular engine is not a t-spark.

I have an old Canon 30D sitting in my cupboard as a spare…..would be a great starting point, served me really well. Might seem sub par when it comes to mp count at 8.2, but still produces great images.

I raced quite a few of the Midweek Madness XC series up here in the North West. Most venues where greater Manchester. I liked the variation of courses, from Lee Quarry to Haigh Hall, both very different. Categories were easy to put yourself into and they seemed well attended. I think the pandemic heavily disrupted the flow of events and their FB page seems very quiet. I know they recently had an event cancelled.

    I’d be happy to volunteer.

As a discipline, it really is at the bottom of the pecking order, especially for the weekend warriors. XC takes some level of basic fitness and mental strength and the fun factor isn’t there like it is with Enduro racing.

Yea a couple of the PMBA rounds would be handy enough and easy going. Kirroughtree had a few spicy bits in it the last time I raced there.

Always heard the Boltby Bash was good fun and not too difficult as you’ve mentioned. Although it always depends who you talk too.

We should get a ride in – if you managed to sort your tubeless woes in the end

Yes, I did. Let’s sort something out.

Back to running, I need to get new trail running shoes. My old Inov8 Roclites are pretty tired and tatty now. Considering going back to the Speedcross. Does anyone know if they still have the big inner midsole support?

Mate, that’s still faster than me.

It’s all relative. Can I have your biking fitness, please?
