R-tech great…but my thinking is one of the below is under half the price, performs similarly, if it decides to blow up out of warranty, i’ll get another.

Mine is a few years old now gets well used and chucked in van etc and still works perfectly

One that many welders use (including myself for work):-

    https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=22932

    That price is +vat etc

Also available on their ebay store

Bontrager xr2 and xr4 is where it’s at for me now, tried others and these seem light for their size and pretty tough.

Also, as usual, tyre widths as stated can be very different to what they actually blow up to! These bontys seem pretty true to size.

Thanks for the earlier PSA on these 👌

Is zwift website only place for the XD(r) driver for these?

Been pretty impressed with the Oppo Pad air for £200….very nicely made tablet for the Dosh and seems well specced too.

Thanks for the XR2 spot 👌

Used a Vittoria 28 x 3.0 bombolini here, nice tyres, but didn’t measure anywhere near 3.0 on a decent width rim. Maybe the chunkier tread linked is wider 🤞

    In case of interest…

    https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/level-2019-dropper-post-black-27-2mm/

Couple of those cheapy Level 27.2mm dropper posts arrived today…I had a feeling they’d be more than the stated 50mm travel.

    They’re 100mm

    Pretty hefty at 631g

Pushing down by hand in workshop, not arse force, they seem quite well sprung – hopefully about right when sat on…

I have GX axs mech, x01 10-51 cassette, gx 170mm cranks and 38t or 40t? ring with rival shifters on my Camino.
Works well, barely use the upper rings on the cassette, but I can see them in use when loaded up on some rough Devon hills!

    I have tarn and 1120 forks here…
    They’re basically identical lengths.

Hmmmm, I seem to have inadvertently won that Trig on eBay with the dodgy fork 😅

It’s a large, can someone with a large pretty please tell me roughly what length fork steerer I’ll need on it to run a stem a small selection of spacers?
I’ll start rummaging for a fork before it arrives.

(I see there is a trig fork on eBay at the moment, presume they’ve not changed the spec of the fork between generations!?)

Used to use classified adverts on eBay to sell land rovers when I was doing that as a business.

Being a classified advert no one can actually do anything weird with it, bid etc.

Basically, I never put a phone number on the listing,l, or in the details, lots of words, nice photos and a link to a shared album of extra photos.
Also I never put a best offer on the classified advert. If they’re genuine and view it, they can haggle then.

I treated it is a cheaper version of autotrader.

People genuinely interested then have all the information they need and generally don’t then ask lots of questions, they just ask to come and view.

If someone is interested they’ll make the effort to message you through eBay for your phone number. That eliminates the majority of the chancers.

I found that the first person who actually viewed, bought the vehicle.

So you may not get loads of “interest” but the interest you do get is genuine and may lead to sale.

Trying to justify ordering one of these to get a frame as mentioned above using N+4 maths….

What do we think the bits are realistically worth to punt on?
    Fork – £180?
    SX groupset £100?
    WTB wheels (they’re very heavy – I’ve had a set!) £90?
    Level Brakes £70?
    Tyres – Bin
    Total £440

Bike is £630 including the £30 delivery cost

    Frame + headset/BB/stem/saddle/bars/discs =£190

Is it worth the faff of trying to sell budget parts?

I am a self employed arty farty metal worker/welder and have played this what MIG welder game a few times…
R-tech, yes, great customer service etc, but for what you need, you don’t need to spend that much.

If you forum rummage etc, you will see this:-

    https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=22932

Many welders run them – mine gets used most days, gets thrown in the van etc and i cannot fault it.
For the money, if it fails, i’ll buy another

It’s very light , I run mine off a 13amp supply at customers houses, rarely with an issue.
You will need to give in and sort a gas bottle – please don’t faff about with gasless.
There are pretty competitive rent free bottle deals around. I have an old BOC offer that they still honour, otherwise i’d find something rent free from a local motor factor etc

Tips…get a long length of gas hose and quick release connector.
Best price for 0.8mm 5kg rolls are on ebay and amazon search `GYS 086128 0.8mm 5Kg Steel MIG Wire’

I have a cheapy viking tandem found on marketplace that we have adapted to fit a 5/6 year old on the back (re-drilled cranks, pedal blocks, toe clips etc).

For exploring the lanes of Devon and messing about it’s been great.

Quality of frame seems no worse than any other budget bike – I am a bit of a bike snob, but for the money paid and the smiles it’s created, it’s great.

Geometry in the front/riding position is crap, but some cheap swept bars from planetX have made my riding position much comfier.

It’s a disc brake model which obviously came with the most horrific set of brakes and the wheels weighed A LOT. We swapped out to some old mavic wheels (26 – so cheap enough to pick up) and some hydraulic brakes and it’s been a great thing for getting my daughter out and about.

In fact we’re off out on it for an explore today – our last explore was about 35km with a couple of obligatory cake stops….

I realise you’re looking for a frame to build – but there is a small titanium loco moto build in the planetx ex demo section for £1200 – for that money it might be worth stripping and rebuilding with some choice bits and selling on the parts you don’t need?
    https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/DBCL8888902/titus-loco-moto-sram-gx-mountain-bike—small
(I saved over 1.2kg by just swapping out the wheels and cassette on my loco moto…)

It’s called using what you’ve got to just get riding…had single speed hydros in stock and spare GX axs from a MTB strip down…ta da!
But I do know exactly what you mean and agree in part.

A Freeranger was my other option and they had the framesets on special a month or so ago for £399 direct on their website – only went with the camino as i fancied the slacker geomoetry and i couldn’t bring myself to buy the creme egg paint scheme

    @phil5556
Yes, well spotted! Not in the market for pairing the GX mech with rival AXS brifters (not that there is any stock anywhere even if i was!) Mullet AXS drivetrains seem quite common now.

The shifter is now upside down by the brake lever after various trial and errors with parts bin brackets, and actually rather nice to use with the thumb!

Latest version here, bought as a frameset when they had £50 off recently.
Large for me at 5’10 and fits nicely.
Went for sage/light green or whatever it’s called – was dubious, but it’s actually rather nice in the flesh, and has some strange sparkle to it in the sunshine.

I am running a short 50mm stem and wide 52cm cowchippers.
Squeezed 29×2.1 vittoria terrano drys on – just enough mud clearance on the back – plenty on the front.

Coming from a couple of slack MTB framed monster cross builds recently, a Riverside 920 last year and a nukeproof digger a couple of years ago, it’s been a nice combination of all of them for me and i expect it will hang around a lot longer than the others.

Sonder framesets seem to have decent quality control and thought into the design from my experience over the years.

Thanks all for this thread 👍

Reminded me I needed one for a BPW trip in a couple or months…and went googling.

I have a random selection on retention from a past life when buying and selling vehicles as an extended hobby and taking the plates off before selling…
    D55SAW
    H1LWX
    S400PUD
    T6VVW

Never felt inclined to have any put on my current sh#$y old vehicle selection.
But reading this thread it might be a good time to make an effort to sell them!
    Any takers?!

This Instinct fiasco was the best outcome that happened in my sad little watch life…

I had taken delivery of a Fenix 6S Solar for £355 over Xmas from start fitness…then got over excited and ordered 2 x PSA Instincts.

Fenix died after a week…Instincts never turned up…bought a cheapy second hand Amazfit T-Rex pro thingy and its brilliant, screen clearer than the Fenix, software fine, has touch screen and buttons, does more than I’ll ever need, it’s bit cheap and plasticky but that means I don’t worry about it like I did with the Fenix.

Not sure i’ll bother with another expensive watch!

    Few photos added to album…
Tyres arrived and fitted, though too dark for a “pretty picture” of whole bike with its new boots on, maybe today- maiden voyage for a pasty possibly 🤔

Only frame marking i can find is on the rear dropout.

    Thanks again for the replies!

Sneaked an hour on it today and detoured via Halfords (I know!) for some brake pads and inner tubes and autosol.

Neatsfoot oil ordered for saddle, my horsey friend says that’s pretty good at rejuvenating old leather…

Tyres are too deformed/perished to be properly useful, so will order up some panaracers from sjs I reckon.

Just added a few more photos to the album.

Huge thank you for all the replies, I’ll report back more when I’ve got some spare time to have a better look at it and start tinkering.
I realise this isn’t necessarily a STW type of bike, but it has two wheels and
Definitely only having an as is resto job with an oily rag and a bit of autosol to remove any corrosion.
Looking forward to tackling the brooks!
Mudguards coming off as the rear is broken anyway.
    Quite like the racks!
And tyres are 27 X 1.25 Michelin world tour, will source something similar with new tubes.

Just looking forward to a little pootle round the lanes on it to a pub some time, creat some new memories with it 👌

    Message from my father….
“He used to work at Lewisham cycle centre.
Got taken over by hinds the jewellers.
He then left and went to Holdsworth in crystal palace. They made the frames in the workshop and wholesale parts upstairs.
    Campagolo consessioners.”

There was also another blue Holdsworth that I believe got donated to his cycling club..

Tarn forks here too. They also did a steel tarn fork on the lower spec bikes.
Tarn forks are a good length and seem to be well made.
I think you’ll have more chance finding a boost fork with a tapered steerer anyway, I wouldn’t get anything other than tapered for it for simplicity.
Personally I’d ask on the onone Facebook group to see if anyone has a pair of selcof forks from their whippet for sale, not uncommon for people to swap them out for bounce.
There was a pair on here for sale a couple of months ago …so you never know, this thread might remind someone!

Mudhugger 29er…but you may need a hot air gun to get it to the right shape for the wider seat stays.
I had one on my 2021 farley and it needed some “tweaking” with the hot air gun for a decent fit.
I also added their extension piece to make it wider and reduce the chance for a splatter!

I nearly got caught out on the lanyard only option when ordering a mk15 joystick recently…
In the end, cheapest seller for the complete package with mounts was sprocket cycles:-

    https://www.sprocketscycles.com/products/exposure-joystick-mk15-front-light

Had an old joystick maxx2 that still sold for about £30 on eBay after many years of service! hoping this one lasts as long, yearly cost works out pretty good then!
