No worries Benpinnick , did you mean ProLink Chain Lube ?

Reviewers seem to agree with you , I’ll give it a go !

Andrewsredmini – I’m surprised you had chain wear issues with UBS , quite e opposite for me . My local woods are sandy , the fact that UBS is not sticky and easily washes off after the ride , has meant my drive chains have lasted much longer than they did with wet weather oil.

Saying that though , that’s for a 2hr blast , I wouldn’t use UBS for an all day epic !

Hmmm , looks like Flear are still sorting out distribution .

Benpinnick , don’t suppose you could find a link for Pro Max Gold ? Can’t seem to find it on Google .

    Thanks .

I’ve been using sintered on Shimano rotors for a while now , they work fine , no excessive wear. I just buy what ever is going cheap , less choice with centre lock .

Never actually used a 1/8 , but use a KMC 3/32th on my single speeder . Not expensive , but absolutely bullet proof !

Yup , no serious climbing , but constant twisty up & down , very few straight / fireroad bits.

Keep a close eye on the Gorrick site , as Frith is a military venue . MOD exercises have caused a lot of last minute venue changes in the last year.

Keep an eye on the sealant level by sloshing it around , say weekly to begin .

I used to run Conti X Kings ( protection )they would seal & set themslves on the bead nicely. But ,I got through a ton of Stan’s as it was for ever leaching through the tyres them selves

Now using Geax Tyres & the sealant literally lasts for ever , or at least can’t remember topping any of my bikes up in a long , long time ! 🙂

I’ve got the Proviz Switch Gilet http://www.evanscycles.com/products/proviz/switch-gilet-ec121390

Best of both worlds in theory , proper bright Hi-viz in day light , then proper glow in the dark on the way home , really makes me feel super visible night & day.

Only criticism , christ it makes you sweat . To be fair , I’ve only had it a month & things have been unseasonably warm.

Will give it another go , now it’s getting cooler.

Bought one of these recently , I commute 20 miles each way along some fast , dark lanes.
Proper bright / reflective , I’ve had cars slowing down at night , asking what I’m wearing.
Only challenge , breath-ability of a heavy duty bin liner !
To be fair it’s not dropped below 10 degrees yet , but worn over a thin long sleeved base layer , shoulders & upper back are absolutely dripping 10 minutes into my ride.
I really hope this becomes less of a problem as the temperature drops , as I defo feel safer in both light & dark conditions.

It’s always been an ambition of mine to wear out a tyre , rather than a tear or sidewall / bead fail ! 🙂

Must add that obviously a solo rider is much quieter than a group.

Result , you stumble upon more wild life .

Like when an owl has to fly right in front of you under low branches.

Or Badgers , Deer , Foxes ect , love it !!

I’ve saw a couple of Birds doing 12:12 , so you wouldn’t be the first to race one .

Generally though , for covering ground at the best speed you can , 95% of the bikes in XC are 29ers , both the pro’s & the fun catergory.

Must agree with all above , not the cheapest , but 4yrs on , my Diablo has never misbehaved .

Well worth checking out Exposures Web Site , they have an outlet store where they sell ‘ factory seconds ‘ , basically supposedly a few cosmetic blemishes , not that I could see any on a Diabo 5 , that I bought recently at a decent discount.

Fantastic after sales for service & repair if ever needed.

Yeah , hate the way Shimano still haven’t developed a split link !

And yes , I do know the KMC ones fit.

Ok , play nice you lot !

Me & a mate stayed at the Travelodge the night before the BHF London Brighton.

We just took our bikes up to the room , nobody seemed to mind.

About 20cm minimum , to give yourself a little flexibility on bar height.

I think tyre choice has a lot to do with sealant disappearing . I found myself forever topping up Conti X-Kings almost weekly , as they seemed to just leech sealant through the sidewalls ( tubeless ready – protection model ).

Now using Geax and the Stan’s is lasting months & not discovered any ‘ Stanimals’ forming.

Love my Lurcher , running it rigid SS- at about 16 stone !

Got mine 2yrs ago as a warranty replacement for a broken Scandal . I would defo buy another if I broke this one.

Keep an eye on the On One site , what’s £500 this week could be £200 next week!

Some tyres just never seal completey. I stopped using Conti X Kings Protection because of forever having to top up the sealant. Now using Geax TNTs , adding a tiny top up maybe every 6 months , great tyres !

Oh Yeah , tyre debates were a bit easier in the late seventies , a case of a knobbly or not !

I originally built up my single speed as a winter bike a few years ago, thinking it would be low maintenance & build up my strength for the geared bikes come summer.

I just ‘got’ it straight away , it really suits my local terrain. My HT & FS now only see day light a couple of weeks a year!

Only down side is it’s probably ruined my ability to climb on a geared bike in the saddle , as I’m one of those always standing single speeders , love it !!

I didn’t know auto pause was optional.

I like the system , sometimes surprising how much time I don’t move.

As above moving time & elapsed time both come up on the web site.

Also check your profile , that will also keep track of all your elapsed time as well as all your actual moving time.

Yup , I’ve had the same problem . I’ve been told XTR cassettes are kinder on ali freehubs , so will find out soon.

I concur with ernie , at 6ft the 19″ is spot on for me. I turned the stem ‘upside down’ for a more all day comfortable riding position.

    Good nippy , light bike.

Also being a ” well nourished rider” , I was curious if the odd KG less on the bike would make any difference . Upgrading to a lighter set of wheels , the answer is a definite yes , just need to make sure they can still carry the weight !

Not using one on an Orange , but happy to report the rear one is the most effective mud guard I’ve ever used .

Done a couple of all day rides in mud , my back & arse , totally clean , just the bottom of my baggys getting a bit of crap on them.

The front one is more effective at stopping stuff coming back into your face at speed , rather than keeping your shins & lower body clean.

I bought a set of mudhuggers a couple of weeks ago , after seeing how good they were on mates’ bikes.

Done 200+ muddy miles now , love ’em !

Best bit of winter kit I’ve bought in a long while . 🙂

OP, I’m assuming the tyres are in good nick ,seated correctly & there’s plenty of sealant in there.

My valves sometimes need a little extra help sealing properly.

To do this , I hold the wheel so the valve is at 12 o’clock & allow the sealant to pool at the bottom. Then flip the wheel the wheel over quickly , so the sealant gets dropped onto the valve , if that makes sense?

    Steve750 , depends .

I do once , overlapping by about 3″ , I’d never get my tyre on otherwise.

Life is too short to have winter rides ruined with cold feet , just bite the bullet & buy some decent winterboots , they’re not cheap but you’ll get a few years out of them.

I can remember my first Shimano MW80s , after spending almost just as much on overshoes , seal skins , morinos ect over the years.

Then after years of cold feet , it was one of those OMG , why did I put this off for so long ?? – NEVER had cold feet since.

Ok , they can let water in , in extreme conditions , but they still hold their warmth.

£2.99 at Halfords , great stuff , still a good price compared to those robbing sods at Stan’s! 😉

What ever you decide on , can I recommend you try for size before you buy ?

I tried some Endura & Gore 3/4 in the same size .

The Endura wouldn’t even go over my foot , where as the Gore were a perfect fit.

Gore would be my recommendation for any Lycra , not the cheapest , but……….
