Pop along to your nearest staffed station and have a word with someone in the booking office – they’ll be more than happy to sort you out with split tickets to keep the cost down.

It’s most likely going to be the cassette that is causing the problem.

The chain and the cassette wear together, so it goes without saying that the two should be changed at the same time.

The chainrings wear at a different rate to the cassette so will probably OK for a while , but eventually they will wear – in my experience the middle ring usually wears first.

Try running two/three chains. Easy if you use a powerlink. Have one [a]chain on the bike, one been cleaned and [c][one ready to fit – rotate them every few rides so [a] becomes which becomes [c] which become[a] etc. It will prolong the life of your drive train no end

I’ve met quite a few nice people, nothing special or extra-ordinary , just very nice people.

What is bizarre is the number of people I’ve met while riding solo locally who claim to have been the person who started Bad Brains MBC.
I’ll take it as a compliment, but I do find it very strange.

Got a B17 narrow on my tourer that I use nearly everyday. Very comfortable with or without padded shorts [not tried it naked yet, but will report back accordingly].

I did have one on my hardtail for a while. It was comfy, but to be honest it took a proper battering and despite the proofide and the use of a rain cover, after getting soaked wet through and covered in mud/grit three times a week, it soon became overstretched, and an eyesore too.

    Would I recommend one …
For a tourer/commuter/fixie most definitely, for a road bike possibly, off road bike – no.

Wheels can go out of true both up and down as well as side to side. It’s sometimes referred to as ‘a hop’.

You need to determine first of all that it is a ‘hop’ as opposed to a flat spot or dent on the rim – this is a possibility and could have been caused in a number of ways , not least, impact.

If it is a hop you might be able to get it out by loosening the spokes opposite and tightening the ones nearest, but it’s a lot more difficult than truing a wheel from side to side

Grandson loved his Early Rider[/url], especially the skate park and local singletrack – he turned 4 a few weeks ago and got his first pedal bike. [Second hand black framed bike that Grandad turned into a Batman bike ]
First attempt he fell off when he stopped – second attempt, after telling him to remember to put his feet down when he stopped, he was off.

In theory you could also get away with one pair of sturdy shoes too.

But you need – slippers for the house, trainers for slacking out in, a pair of black and a pair of brown for best, same for work, boots for walking, boots for working, wellies for raining, flip flops for the beach, another pair of trainees for chillin’, at least one pair of cycling shoes, etc.etc.

So ask yourself would you forgo all your shoes for just one pair of Barker Black dinner brogues ?

    What allthepies says
Try using a map pin but only the push the tip in. If your a bit cack handed push something back against the wall of the tin at the same time – end of a pencil works, chop stick is better as its usually curved

Pot stand in pic is upside down – it fits inside the rim of the primer dish [lid off a soup can]. Height was determined as roughly where initial flames peaked , if that makes sense.
Once you’ve found/made a level patch of ground it’s sturdy enough for the small kettle/pan and the small frying pan I use. Cooked up a fine breakfast of bacon sausage and beans with a mug of tea when I used it a few weeks ago.

To pack it all into the tub items go in the following order –
pot stand upside down – windshields – both stoves – penny’s – snuffer[?] – windshield pegs[ pushed down sides at 12,4 and 8 o’clock] – primer dish
You might have to cut a small ‘V’ at either side of the lip on the tub to allow a bit of give. This is not a problem as the tub is made sturdy by wrapping in Gorilla or duct tape.

Tell him you’re OK for disc brakes, see if he can get you some 501’s and a couple of Fred Perry tops, and some proper Armani perfume for the missus. Share a fag with him put in a regular order – your bike will be safe in the garden and you’ll get cheap clobber as and when. Both happy.

+1 for Vittoria Randonneurs – bit heavy, but fairly cheap, roll well and are tough enough for some serious canal path bashing [next years niche]

Save yourself the hassle and buy one of Stu’s brilliant meths stoves from the bear bones website:

For £20+ ??? and isn’t part of the fun making it yourself ?

@ludite that looks better – I made a couple for when I camp, along with wind break[from beer can and old spokes] and pot stand [from grill off disposable bbq] that all fit in a small Pringles tub which fits neatly inside my mug.

    Give her a CROG.

Used to crog mine to school – been known to have one sat on top tube, with pipe lagging for a saddle and one having a crog.Couldn’t afford any other at the time. It was that or walk.

Might not look pretty but it costs nowt, and as soon as you drop them off its a straight forward bike so you can go for a proper spin.

The lezyne lights are pretty good – I use a FEMTO rear and a MICRO-DRIVEfront.
The micro drive is charged via USB has a 5 settings , at least one of which will be strong enough for the unlit park.
Both fit on and off really easy – so are easy to stick in pocket/bag while in the bike shed.

A front rack and panniers is not as bad as it sounds. Make sure they are mounted low enough and it’s surprising how little effect they have.

Have you set the rear mech limit screws correctly ? [have a look HERE]

To get the correct chain length – wrap the chain around the largest cog on the cassette and the largest chainring – without going through the rear mech – make note of where the nearest link is that the chain could be joined and add two links. If you feel this is too slack remove one link.

I’d also have a look at the rear mech and make sure it has tension.

You don’t need a Shimano BB you can fit Hope and a few others. I thought the Shimano one’s were a bit shabba, so I spalshed out and fit a Hope ceramic. Never had a minutes bither with it and it looks nice too.

works fine for me – used this combo for years.

Favourite cold weather combo = base layer – thermal padded bib longs [3/4 shorts] – then a jersey then bib tights without pad then jacket.

Only problem is the trail side pi$$ – but you soon get the hang of it. Or wet and smelly.

Most likely to be the chain and cassette that are worn , could be jockey wheels and/or chainrings as mentioned above.
But, it could also be a knackered freehub. Shimano type freehubs can get contaminated and result in the pawls not engaging everytime, especially under load.

Buy good weatherproof clothes and enough shorts/shirts etc so you can always have kit to wear

Lesyne micro drive – you won’t get 8hrs burn time, but it ticks all the other boxes and is also capable of ben used as a back up off road light and /or torch.
Roughly same price as Knog and much better light IMO.
