i have a 6 year old girl and a 5 year old boy. we’ve had loads, Dawes blowfish 12 and 14 are light but the brakes are craap. We then went onto a ridgeback mx16 and melody they are heavy but the kids managed some long rides on them. I also got a 16 inch carrera blast which is lighter than the mx16 and my son preferred. When you jump to 20 inch wheel size is when the bikes start getting really heavy. That’s when I got them both Islabikes and they weigh less than the 16 inch bikes they replaced. They have been fantastic we have done some big bike rides on them. my 5 year old rode 23 miles in in the Pyrenees last week and wasn’t tired at that end of the ride. if you families hobby is riding together then get an islabike if its for dossing around the bike park or cycling to school get a second hand carrera blast.

You can get anti-biotics to treat it i didn’t bother as i was just coming out of it by the time I worked out what it was.

We have an easy rider and to be honest its too heavy for my son who is a big and strong 2 and 2 months. We also have a cheap decathlon plastic balance bike and he’s just to grips with it this week having been using one of those plastic motorbikes with the big wheels.

To be honest I think he’ll be riding a normal bike before he’s strong enough for the easy rider. There is a lighter early rider but i think your better of with the cheaper lighter options.

I’m taking him to the bike park this afternoon i’ll post up some video here he is on the motorbike a few months

I use brasher lithium walking boots the sole seem to stick like glue to the peddles. Gortex lined so keep feet reasonably dry particularly with seal skins. Plus they are amazingly light, the most comfortable boots i’ve ever owned.

These things have always annoyed me, like sponsored Parachute jumps or Walks along the great wall of china, essentially you are asking people to pay for your holiday. Look at the London Marathon the only way most people can run it is for a charity and for some they are doing it to raise money for the charity. But for many they are raising money for charity from you to pay for for them to experience the London marathon.

I ran the Mallorca Marathon for the Stroke association after my mum had a stroke but I didn’t expect anyone to pay for my flights or my entry etc.

For me if you want to raise money for charity organise it yourself and give the money to a charity your happy how the money is spent. If you want to do a parachute jump, go on a cycle holiday or do a sportive just pay for it yourself.

I did my first half having only 1 eight mile run but lots fast 4 mile runs that was a long time ago. so if shes fit shes probably not that far away she already running nearly 7 miles. I’m training for the wilmslow half in march and a marathon in May. I did a 10 mile run this week and if didn’t have the marathon I probably wouldn’t run any further and focus on going faster. If it was me id up the long run gradually to 10 – 11 mile to give her the confidence she’ll get round then work on doing those other runs faster. If she enjoys her first race she can get a good training book, a heart rate monitor, run up hills and interval train but dont over complicate it for most recreational runners the first race is about getting round and getting a feel what its all about. The next ones about going faster.

Last time I did that route a few years back in January, the singletrack down the side of the roaches was great but the path after that was horrendously muddy and it will certainly much worse given how wet its been recently.

i took my eldest at for a treat after we’d climbed a big hill. He wanted a happy meal, i went to pieces ordering as i had no idea what you get in a happy meal. TBH he only wanted the smurf toy and the coke he bearly touched the meal. He was full up on Haribo i’d bribed him up the hill with.

If you’ve got young kids and you earn 25-30K each. You can kiss goodbye to one of those salaries in nursery fee’s. At their peak ours were over £1800 a month. You’d need to earn £28K a year to pay them. I’m in the fortunate position we could pay them. I’m not sure how others manage.

Another attack by a Rottweiler on a two year old tonight.

    link

Blaming the owners is the same argument the american right spout to justify the gun laws in the US. we have a fraction the gun crime they have as we have fewer guns. Look no Rottweilers no 2 year old little girls mauled in their own homes. If you thought about it rationally if somebody brought in a new species that wasn’t a dog that caused the same damage these dogs do they be banned in a instant. Its just dogs and the dog lobby are ingrained in our society.

This forum is full of anger for car drivers involved in accidents with cyclists, yet dogs put twice as many people in hospital than cyclists accidents involving other vehicles.

if it was down to me I find out which breeds were responsible for 90% of the attacks and ban them and terminate them. There is no more reason to own a pitbull than an AKA 47. Don’t tell me its the owners not the dogs fault. Don’t tell me its cruel when some dog chews your babies face off in the park. I’m sick of reading stories like this

There are very few things that get me mad but dangerous dogs is one of them.

No, i already have the wheels and I get the money free because I’m buying the boardmans as part of my bike to work scheme. So effectively I can have one of the best specc’d bikes you can get for a grand (before tax) and £300 to spend on extras, with the wheels its already better specc’d than bikes costing significantly more. I don’t want to waste the £300 on rubbish. I agree about wearing out the drive train and the brakes and hence why I thought the dropper post would add to the bike rather than getting a small improvement by replacing perfectly serviceable components.

Read the singletrack review of the bike, its all the bike I’m ever going to need and I’m as excited about it as my mate who’s just spent £5500 on an intense carbon 27.5 with an xx1 group set.

I badly broke several ribs just before Christmas coming off on some black ice. This went on to a bad chest infection and I spent Christmas Day on Morphine, unable to help out my wife or lift my kids. I actually healed pretty quickly but for the first time I’ve decided to wear a bit of body amour and slow down a bit. Nothing could have stopped by fall but its screwed my fitness up completely.

I’d stop trying to get air and get some coaching to get yourself out of those suprise air situations

I have a half way house – mine was expensive but you could get something similar for 3 grand and newer than a t25.

I have a VW caravelle. Which can be used as camper but we use it as the mobile living room that was described earlier. The front seats swivel and the five of us and sit round and have breakfast, lunch or tea inside. I keep all the stuff under the seats for tea and coffee and eating and washing up and a small cooker in the boot. I also have a small fridge. But we sleep in a pop up tent I have a several and I can set it up in five minutes for 5 of us to sleep in and break it down about the same time. I did this on Friday spontaneous camping trip with my two kids.

I like the idea of an eriba or a tab caravan but the wife won’t allow it.

The Samsung won’t have flash out of the box as android 4.2 doesn’t support it. But its pretty easy to add it.

The note will take a card so for 15 quid you’ll have a 48gb tablet.

Mini is nice and ios is slick. Android has come on leaps and bounds and the latest version ifs very polished.

Are you sure you want the note your paying a lot over some very good Android tablets for one inch of screen and the s pen which unless you have a specific need for i

I have a nexus 7 and a galaxy tab 2. For the kids I prefer the galaxy tab. They play games on it and its perfect for watching movies with the card slot and its really loud so you can use it in the car without an extra speaker. The only thing its missing is HDMI out and it cannot be connnected to a TV nor can the nexus 7. The galaxy tab with a 32gb card cost £145 to give a 40gb tablet. More than half the price of the IPAD mini.

I own at lot of devices and I think the tab is a bargin for the money. But keep a look out there are a lot of new tablets launching which have better specs than the galaxy.

I’m in process of getting my T5 Caravelle ready for the summer. Going to get the VW rack about 450 ouch and a nice fridge. I’ve got 3 kids and wife didn’t want a van so had to go for the Caravelle. Seat swivels to make a nice living room. Agree with a above 4 of us slept in the van in the snow on saturday, miles cosier than in a tent.
