Me and the wife did the cycle scheme this year. We had to use Hafords. We did really well out of it with accessories, I ordered extra stuff of their web site (some stuff cheaper than CRC) and then got 3 for 2 when picking it up. I look I reckon we got between us well over £2500 worth of stuff for our 1k vouchers for we’ll pay £1300. We both got the bikes we wanted. But I won’t do it again as you can’t get choice of discounted bikes and there have been some stunning end of season deals this year.

I was looking at this a few weeks ago having smashed my 1st gen moto g. I decided to go for a Galaxy S5. Waterproof SD card replacable battery and not that much more than the 16gb 2gb ram moto g. Stuck it in a toughcase and its been great.

Stick a decent launcher on a disable all the Samsung apps its fine.

I just upgraded my GT grade wheels to Kinesis and again with some Michelin Pro4 25mm, ti skewers and lighter discs saved 1kg. Only ridden round the block but it felt like a different bike. The rear end felt like an anchor with the OEM wheels in.

My only worry is that it took me ages to get the tyres on and wouldn’t fancy fixing a puncture at the roadside. What 28mm road tyres are folk running 25mm seems to defeat the object of having a gravel bike.

The kinesis hubs are pretty noisy not Pro 2 noisy but loud enough

Tell us more about the sensor. My mate gas an old I-drive. Im always amazed what he can climb up on it despite his bike weighing about 10 pounds more than mine. The suspension seems to nether get deflected and digs into the ground. Are the modern GTs the same. It’s not as good on the downs a the bb is about 2 foot of the ground.

I’m 42 and never broken what I’d consider a proper bones despite playing rugby when young and MTBing. But I break by ribs with alarming regularity must have done it about 6-7 times. 50% mountain biking, the rest usually drunken falls. I even managed it snowboarding on my honeymoon. I’m mega clumbsy. Last time was so bad I ended up on Morphine over Christmas.

I fact it’s been a couple of years so I’m due any moment now.

Slimfast or gardia have shown the best results for me and are cheap.

Otherwise stock answer without any other details wheels, tyres and tubes. Low end cassettes can weigh a far bit. I swapped my saddle and post from stock to Carbon post and ti railed saddle don’t know how much it saved but it weighs knack all now. Only did it as I had some free Halfords money. I’ve been looking this week at switching to full carbon fork i reckon that can a save a fair bit of weight from an OEM fork.

seen him a few times and the joy division set is far the best. The songs suit his voice better. He can’t sing the later New Order stuff. But then again neither can Barney.

must have been 1990/91 I saved and bought a Diamond Back topanga. it was the grey and pink. I didn’t know anyone else that mountain biked so I used to play in the woods around Temple Newsam in leeds which I lived right next to. East Leeds is a mountain biking desert.

I kept the bike for years only throwing it in the tip in a rage after it was stripped in the work bike sheds. whilst I was in hosital with cellulitus after a OTB incident road riding.

I wish I’d kept it it was the perfect pub/tow path bike much less twitchy. than the Marin from a similar time I’m using now.

I did it and it was great. The weather was really kind and that made massive difference. Stopped at Chester, Mold and Malpas. The only low was the moment few miles before malpas about 90 miles in its real slog but you need to get to there for the shop.

We were out for about 12 hours and riding for about 10 or so. Those audax guys really know how to put a route together but you wouldn’t want to do it on your Sunday bike if you had one. They use canal tow paths, hard pack and bob through housing estates. The GT grade was perfect for it. The worlds end and the panarama above Llangollen were fantastic I’d recommend riding up there maybe not from Macclesfield.

To be honest I’ve done a few mountain bike rides and my col ride that were much tougher than this ride so if your reasonably fit and used to long days in the saddle I’d give it a go.

Its not my address its the audax guys the burgler would probably find a rusty old Dawes galaxy (which would be much faster than me)

How hard is cavedale ? Is it deceptive i walked up it and push a bike up it and it didn’t seem that it would be that hard. Is it the surface that makes it so difficult ?

I’ll never forget the night when I was younger walking into a local Pizza shop in a quiet suburb of Leeds late on Sunday night thinking it slightly odd there were 10 4×4’s with blacked out windows parked around. Blatant as anything the owner, who clearer spent most of his time in the Gym taking steroids was dolling out £20 notes to a load of very unsavory looking characters. I ordered my chips and cheese and left as soon as.

My local take away is always empty but then again it also has a 0 out 5 food hygiene rating so that’s not surprising.

I think the OP lives near Leek and if you ask me it has some of the best road riding in the country. I spent a big chunk of the summer training for my Pyrenees holiday in the Staffordshire Moorlands and its fantastic on a road bike. There is good mountain biking locally but it’s a slog to get to without getting in the car.

I’ve spent much more time on the road bike in the past six months and i’m a much better mountain biker for it. A year ago I was the slowest in my group now i’m the fastest but I usually stay at the back chatting on a group ride.

I’ve got a Chromecast, a couple now tv’s and a Android TV box. For bang for buck the Now TV box is great I got a couple of the old ones for £10 and I think it’s great for simply adding iplayer, 4od and ITV player to a TV , I don’t go anywhere near the now TV bits which are just another app. The old one is only 720p which is fine for the kitchens and bedrooms. The new one is 1080p which might be better for a bigger TV. I got the one that came with 2 day sports pass so I didn’t even have to cancel a subscription. There’s a simple hack to install plex on to it which open up loads of possibilities but I’m not bothered for that

As for chromecast, fire stick/tv or Apple TV I’d get the one for the eco-system you already invested in. I’m bit stuck at the moment as I have Amazon prime and google music, one really needs chromecast, the other is best on the fire stick.

I bought the android box to see if could get round it and but to be honest the user experience and the quality of the hardware is not as good as that from the big boys. Toying with getting the fire tv box when it comes out and side loading some streaming apps for US TV shows etc.

When I was 7 the headmaster came and checked the soles of my shoes. The next thing I was been interviewed by the CID for breaking into the School on the Friday before. I can remember responding to the question about what I was doing on Friday night was watching play your cards right. God knows how many policies were broken even in 1980.

If you zoom in on an area and type or say OK maps it stores in offline not sure if it then uses this for sat nav. I used it in France All summer it was great.

It a bit big brother as must get feedback on the traffic speeds from phones which are sending there location back to Google central. But that combined with waze makes it pretty awesome.

If your worried about data just down load here maps and use it offline or just switch the data on just as select your route to make sure there’s no traffic problems.

I have a monsterbag and its great thats why ordered the smaller version but I’ve given up on ever receiving it and bought a couple of Alpkit Gourdons which are fantastic. If anyone needs a larger bag I’d get something from Lumo.

was planning on taking a break from Alton Towers as the 2 of kids are that awkward height between 120 and 140 so can’t go on the big rides but are too big for the small rides. But if its dead quiet might pop down on the inset day before half term its only about £40 quid for the 5 of us with the Kelloggs vouchers which is good value if go to the 3d cinema, the aquarium etc. I paid more to go round the copper mine in begellert must have taken 45 minutes to get round.

I’ve been looking at this especially since my wife took the wrong turn coming off a col and ended up 40 miles off route requiring a 3 hour round trip to rescue her. I’m sure a etrex 10 would do the job you want, my old original etrex could do that. I’m looking at an Etrex 20 as that can upload mapping which would be useful.

I’d go for it, just don’t think you’ll be challanging Mo Farah or anything. Just take it steady accept you may have to walk run or speed walk latter miles. Build up slowly and focus on losing weight. I’ve run half marathons at 16 stone and you should be able to get to that by time of the marathon.

Try not to do too much running early on as you’ll risk shagging your knees, mix it up with cycling and I always find spinning great for pushing myself.

I was 110kg summer last year and could manage 12 minute miles, I’m hoping to do a sub 45 minute 10k on Sunday and managed 80 miles and 4000m of climbing in a day in the Pyrenees a few weeks ago.
