I’ve been in the Pyrénées for the past fortnight and it’s been blisteringly hot. I was staying at the foot of the Aubisque this week but had to leave yesterday lunchtime for the ferry home gutted I couldn’t see the end of this stage.

I rode the Aubisque from Arlgles Gazost via the Col de Spandelles and back via the Col des Borderes on Wednesday and I would say it as probably the best road bike ride I’ve ever done. Not the longest or the hardest but it was just one of the those perfect days and the route is so much better and quieter than the standard route although it adds another 1000m of climbing its worth it. The descent from the Spandelles is like a single lane road in the dales except it drops 1000m. The climb to the Aubisque is amazing once it opens up.

Jess Varnish was talking about the cost of continuing outside Team GB on Radio 5 last week and i think she said 35k for the bike plus everything else.

Personally I think it’s not formula 1 they should all have the same bike and helmet etc and then it would be down to the athletes ability.

I’m sure the team GB’S success will inspire a fair number of people to take up certain sports but personally I’d rather the money was spent at local level improving facilities and improving the health of the people that pay for the lottery tickets. The lottery funding which comes disproportionately from the poorest has funded people like ennis and hoy to not only to be Olympic winners but to make 100k if not millions in endorsments. Bet they don’t pay back their funding (unlike students who have to pay back there tuition fees). It was equally unfair when the lottery money funded Covent Garden to the tune of 2 billion. I rather have no Olympics Golds if it meant a few less school playing fields were sold off for housing or to build a Tescos.

I wouldn’t bother. He seems to have plagerised a lot off his stuff from a number of keto Websites.

Go to Ruled me they have a calculator for working out your fat/protein requirements.

Use the recipes in his books and on any keto Web site there are loads.

Eat some carbs when you do your training. Continue to monitor your calories using MFP.

    Send me £149.

    Cheers

Loving it this year love Muse perfeck pick me up after such a shit day. I’d had about 3 hours sleep and still watched their entire set. Of course it overblown and pompous but it’s fun. I love Radio head but I know who I’d rather have seen in Friday.

New Order are fine without Hooky they sound better. Rolling Stones would have packed in 40 years ago if you could carry on without a founder member. The new album is the best since technique. I’ve seen Peter Hook three or for times recently he’s fine with the Joy Division stuff and early New order but he really struggled with the more recent stuff as it doesn’t suit his voice.

Really looking forward to LCD sound tonight

I only use a GPS and a phone because it’s 2016 and I can’t be arsed buying or printing out maps when I have the whole of the UK mapped on both devices. I always carry both plus spare batteries.

Really interesting, your orginal post inspired me to give it a go having read Joe Wicks cook book which is essentially plagerised from Ruled me and is keto lite.

I waited until I’d run the marathon before I started on th high fat low carb diet as I didn’t fancy changing my diet whilst training so heavily.

I’ve lost about 1 stone in about 6 weeks with much lower activity levels having already lost weight marathon training. I do allow myself the occasional bowl of oats before or imediately after a long long training session. Some days I was keto some not.

I’m on hols this week and I’m having a weeks off the diet. I’ve cycled and indulged one day and fasted with a single keto meal the next. I have no idea how that’s worked. I’ll be much better prepared for the next holiday but unsweetened almond milk which a main stay in my diet is impossible to get in France.

The one weekend I has to give in was a three day bikepacking/hike a bike where no matter how many nuts I ate I had no energy. The first thing I did when I hit civilisation was neck two portion of beans on toast.

We had a a great afternoon with James a few weeks ago I’d thoroughly recommend him. There are some amazing trails both natural and built that you’d never find without a guide.

I switched to Strava from Endomondo as the best tracking app on my Smartwatch 3 uses it. I rarely look at segments but I did notice most of local peak district climb KOMs were set by Alex Dowsett so I doubt a fat bloke on a gravel bikes going to be troubling him anytime soon.

Argles-Gazost to Lourdes and back. Then on to the end of the path and back to Argles he then cycled around the campsite for a few hours. We stopped for 10 minutes in Lourdes and 10 minutes to take some photos at the end of the trail. I should have said without struggling

Carrera Abyss 24 inch looks good I reckon you could get one for £150 if you get your discounts sorted. My son won’t ride his Isla bike after a crash. He’s
miles more confident on his 2nd hand £50 Careers Blast. However he rode 25 miles without stopping just after his 5th birthday on his Isla bike he woundnt have done that on his Blast.

going to the FOD today for the week can’t wait. Staying near bracelands. If you ride up the push up path for the downhillers you can work your way back mostly off road from the Pedalaway centre.

I have the marathon next weekend. I had a goal of doing sub 4 hours. A couple of weekends ago it was a beautiful day an hour into my long run I decided to go for it and ran the distance in 3.52. I know your not supposed to but hey. Now I’m not that bothered about running the race but I’ll aim for 3.40-45 to give myself something to aim for. On the other hand the pressure is off as wellba already achieved by goal.

I’ve already got my next challenge I’m switching to fell running and want to get to a point where I can get into the Edake Skyline so my next target I’d the kindr trog fell race I’m June.

I not a proper roadie, but I love hills. I have choice I can ride out on to the Cheshire plain or into the Peak. I’d chose the hills everytime. I go to the Pyranees a every summer just ride up bigger hills.

I love Free Radicals. When I went Technical Interview for Zeneca in Macclesfield I was asked about the Free Radical Chlorination of Methane. I knew it off by heart and aced it, I’ve seen the other questions they could have asked I knew none of them.

19 years later I have a pretty good job in Pharmaceuticals ( with very little chemistry ) still live in Macclesfield and the location is the primary reason I started mountain biking.

Plus the Flamming lips have a good song about them

Forget what someone else thinks about what your bike looks like. if you fancy climbing up Rosedale chimney (30%) your legs might thank you for a 32 cassette. its a cheap swap if you decide you need closer ratios. I’ve never been bothered by large jumps on the rear cassette.

When I was less fit I had a 36 at the back (trickier and expensive to do on 11 speed ) and I wa glad for it in he pryrenees.

I also bought this from decathlon to carry a small camera. Not tried it yet but should better than an arm bad but less bulky than a bum bag

ON the fell runners Facebook page there’s been one guy with frost bite on bleaklow and another post by a very experienced fell runner who ended up hyperthermic on a quick tea time run a few weeks ago. It easier than you think to end up in a bad way and not to be taken lightly.

For runs less than 1 1/2 hours smart watch for Strava and music. Feel so much better than lugging the phone around.

For long rus where I have a backpack for water / gels or remote runs in the hills with more gear I take the phone to record the run and play music and take photos. Use the watch control it all works a treat.

Buy the 2015 sora for 500 flog everything bar the frame and build up from scratch. I’m going to put ultegra hydualic groupset on it and full carbon fork, kinesis wheels and a carbon seat post and ti saddle. Will better than the alloy x for a similar price once I’ve flogged the bits.
