Sonder Camino frameset in Small for £300 at Alpkit?

I doubt it would be far too big. The reach with the standard stem may be a bit stretched but that could be fixed with a shorter one, maybe an 80mm stem. I’m sure Alpkit could advise, assuming their phone lines are open.

I’m 5’6, size 43 shoes and ride a Camino small with 650b Resolutes. No toe overlap without mudguards but small amount with.

You can buy these Mason/Hunt wheels with whichever axle standard you prefer. I have the original version with a narrower internal rim width and I can’t fault them.

Schwalbe g-one bites have different front and back directions.

Fork axle to crown length does affect stack height but tyres and wheels don’t, assuming they are the same on the front and back. Stack height is measured from the bb to the top of the head tube.

What does that stack/reach calculation tell you?

Check the Sonder Camino AL, the stack on my Small frame is relatively high.

Any chance of a geo chart for both versions of the Bootzipper @Brant please?

It will probably lock a seat stay to a Sheffield stand but ideally you would want it through the wheel too. I use one of these OnGuard Brute to go through both seat stays and a Sheffield frame.

Ah sorry, didn’t spot the mtb bit. I gave up looking for baggies, they all seem to be too long for me too.

Endura FS260 Pro are short enough to make my diddy legs look almost long…almost 😀

@brant will the Bootzipper be available as a full build on launch? The Bootzipper is the only thing stopping me pull the trigger on a Genesis Longitude. Hope it’s worth it!

Think I’m in the minority but the previous Unit X version ticked all the right boxes for me with the relaxed seat angle, low stack, shortish top tube, 27.5 wheels and qr front and rear. All sold out now unfortunately so need to look elsewhere. Hoping the new Planet X steel 650b might fit the bill, fingers crossed.

Bike Island Mallorca in Puerto Pollença have the aluminium Giant Contend SL1 with 105. I used them in May and highly recommend them. They even sorted a 165mm chainset for me.

Each to their own but 50psi seems a tad high for a gravel tyre pressure. Having said that I would expect sealant to cope with such pressures. I’ve been using Orange Seal Endurance for a year or two now without any issues.

I have a set of SKS Velo and the coverage is poor compared to the bluemels. You may be able to fit 63mm bluemels if you cut 5mm off each side where they pass through the fork.

I think you’ll struggle to fit 63mm bluemels if you have the standard Camino fork. My 53mm bluemels only just fit and will probably leave marks when I remove them come spring.

I have a Camino with 47c Byways and 53mm SKS Bluemels.

Bluemels on my London Road. Had to use a longer bolt than provided for the fork mount and just bent the rear metal bracket 90 degrees to fix it to the fixing point.

Got my anchor, chain and lock from here https://securityforbikes.com/shed-shackle.php

Very happy with them and lots of good advice on the site too.

The canal towpath is great until Oldfield Brow just before Dunham, then it deteriorates and can be quite muddy. I’d get off it at Seamon’s Road and use the back roads or the Trans Pennine Trail to get to Dunham Massey.

I did the long route last year on a Planet X London Road with Schwalbe g-one 35mm, finished in the top 30, and I felt pretty beaten up at the end. If I was doing it again this year in similarly dry conditions I would probably use the same bike with 650 x 42 WTB Resolutes tubeless at 25/30 psi.

There were a few sections I had to walk mainly due to the rough terrain but also due to fatigue. You will walk less on a hardtail and fly down some sharp descents on a full suspension but overall I think you will be faster on the Pickenflick if it’s dry. If it’s wet and muddy I would probably ride a hardtail but maybe not a single speed. Having said that a couple of single speeds did pass me on a rough climb.

It’s a great route and the organisation is excellent. I will definitely do it in the future.

I have both and prefer S-ones to the Sectors as the ride feels plusher and the grip is better on minor off-road excursions. My only gripe is they do cut up quite easily on the cinder/gravel paths I regularly commute on.

I’ve been considering an Arkose 3 to replace my Planet X London Road but the difference in Stack height has put me off. My small London Road has a stack of 532mm compared to the 570.5mm of the small Arkose. I’ve just had a look at small Arkose in my local Evans and it was next to a size 50.5cm Norco Search A which has a stack of 529mm. Looking at the 2 bikes side by side there didn’t appear to be 41mm difference between the top of the head tubes (even taking into account the different BB drops and tyre sizes).

Does anyone (maybe Jameso) know if the stack height is measured differently or exaggerated on the Arkose compared to other brands?

    Cheers

What is it about the Arkose frame that makes it suitable for 650b wheels? The BB drop at 76mm is 6mm lower than similar bikes such as the Planet X offerings, which I thought would make pedal strikes more likely?

Has anyone tried fitting SKS Chromoplastics P45 mudguards to a carbon frame version? Clearance looks a bit tight to me.
