OK – whilst I agree that I the "spring drive set" was very much a 'poor mans' Scalextric, aside from it, I also had a CARDBOARD road layout (matchbox I'm sure) with roads, grass, car parks etc marked out and it even had a pop up flyover!! That was a poor mans Spring Drive set!!! LOL

Edit: Holy Cow – just found this pic! This was exactly it.

I had this. You had to stick little pegs onto the bottom of the cars so they could spike between the coils of the springs. It was pretty noisy when switched on though – because of the friction of the springs in the grooves.

Rush opened with the intro to "Spirit of Radio" at the Wembly arena a few years ago. A perfect choice – see them fingers move!

@grum – I look like Bob Seger? Wanna hear my rendition of "Hollywood nights"?

Steve does sometimes do a "spot" which is a compilation of snippets from various well known solos, but I don't think it's in a "I can't think of anything on my own" way. He has too many solo albums for that to be the case 🙂

I saw Leslie West and Mountain at Knebowrth in '85 (supporting Deep Purple funnily enough)

This is one of their best tracks, and in this video (from the "Night Of the Guitars" Concert) he's introduced by Wishbone Ash! (funnily enough again!) The guitar from 3 mins on is just beautiful.

The accents are perfect. Sharlto Copley who plays Wikus van der Merwe was born in Jhb.

The funniest bit for me is where he arrives home, his house is in darkness because the family are throwing him a surprise party, and he walks through the door and says to his wife "Why are the lights off? Is the power off? (there were lots of power cuts here around that time – it's better now though) I need to get to the toilet baby – I think might have crapped in my pants . . ." then the lights come on "Surprise!!!".

The underlying story is based on people here being forcibly moved from squatter camps etc under the previous government system.

Accident over here a month or so ago – Two guys on bikes – one went into the back of the other at speed. Both killed outright. Broken necks AFAIK. When they examined the bikes afterwards they found that the speedo needle on the bike that had ridden into the back of my friends friend, was stuck on 200kmp/h

    Madness.

Light inside the darkness that it needs, yeah

    We're a laugh without a tear
    The hope without the fear

How can it possible be fair that the council (or in Worthings case NCP) are allowed to charge for the same parking space over and over – all day long? I go in – I pay for an hour and use 40 mins, next person comes in and pays for the 20 min I already paid for plus a 40min balance. If he stays half an hour then the third person pays for the half hour balance that has already been paid for by person No 2 . . . and so it goes on. And if you are 5 minutes over your hour? You get to pay for another 60 minutes of parking!! Broken Britain . . . .

    Pass tickets on wherever possible!!!!!

    Saw AC/DC at Castle Donnington – 17th August 1984

Me too, it was also the first time I drove a car I owned on the motorway.

Previous to that I shared a car with my mum

AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Moore………. What a day!!
