Nice video. Some friends and I did the ride some years ago. Loved it – and as you say, the hardest bit was the first few hundred meters up the (concrete?) farm road!

I’m sure almost every biker carries his bike up to the trig point for a “photo oppertunity”. I know I did 🙂

Cheers guys – think I’ll skip the ferry then!

Andy – I’ll pick your brains if you don’t mind? Drop you a line in a while 🙂

Best – Every one of the 15 times I’ve seen AC/DC

Worst – Van Halen @ Castle Donnington 1984. What a let down 🙁

    haha.

I once took my family in south africa sweets and things I was sure they couldn’t get over there. Turned out to be a waste of baggage allowance, and, to add insult to injury, was all more expensive in the UK!

I know it was CCTV rather than a dash/helmet cam, but how do you think that guy who was deliberatly knocked off his bike by a bus would have fared had there been no footage?

edit: did the bus have a camera on board too?

OK so in “some” instances, having a camera won’t help, but that’s the same with anything?

Nothing, including Cams, will stop the real nutters. The sort of people who do things outside police stations without realising that they are outside police staions for example. But I think it could be a usefull deterent to the sort of person who thinks that because he/she is late for work, anything goes.

Those russian clips are quite entertaining – in a “I’m glad it wasn’t me” sort of way.

but can also calm the situation down when someone knows they are being filmed and will be held accountable.

This would be a happy result.

“Was offered a good time by a young woman in Kings Cross.

    Well when I say young….. “

and when I say “was offered a good time”, I mean “was offered crabs” . . . lol

“we’ve been carpeting a local hotel and have these rolls left over”! – I didn’t realise how many hotels there apparently were within 5 miles – all with brand new carpets.

“left over leather jackets from a local fashion show” (ffs really?) maybe the local fashion shows were at the local hotels . . .

Saw bundled bottles of perfume (aka cat piss) being sold in Queens Square – there was even an accomplice to buy a few lots to get things going, and he was very tall. I thought they were filming only fools and horses!

How much are you guys paying per litre now?

Over here in SA the price is going up by 34c/l on wednesday. We’ll be paying R10.95 per litre (approx 88p)

“By whose standards are we measuring success? If it’s your own then only you can judge what is or isn’t successful.

And what is success? Money? Property? Career? Family?

The question is too open ended. It’s too much for my head at this time of year, I’m just thinking about the next drink.

By your own standards – do YOU consider yourself to be successful?

For us today was the “longest” day of the year – things go down hill now until turnaround on June 21st! It was 30 odd degrees and light until about 7:30. Jo’burg is far enough north not to have a huge difference in longest and shortest days – about an hour and a half (capetown has a bigger difference).

Def one of the biggest thing I miss is riding up on the south downs until well after 9 in the summer and it still being light!

If think we’re gonna go – it’s at Soccer City, where the world cup final was played.

Funnily enough I saw AC/DC at the Stade de France not long after the world cup was played there too!

sc-xc – that was the “Tunnel of Love” tour I tink.

Not sure abut this year, but the funniest thread in the history of STW was the original “Badger blows up his tyre” thread with pictures. IIRC Badger had a nervous breakdown in the end.

There was a thread at some point maybe a year ago where someone tried unsucessfully at least three times in a row to post a link to an article about how stupid some people were 🙂

It’s very popular in SA – underneath both tiles and carpets. I don’t have it but I’ve visited places with it and the rooms have been very cosy. They tend to use element wire over here though – not hot water piping.

Apparently the initial start cost when winter arrives is heavy, but then it ticks over fairly cheaply for as long as you leave it on.

I thought it was very good. He threw in quite a lot of South African references and does a very good Seth Effriken accent! He’s only doing 3 shows over here and this was the last.

At one point he came into the audience looking for victims and he was standing next to me – he’s only a little feller 🙂

    forgotten the wireless password.

Their sons are both connected but can’t rememeber the password they used “once a long time ago” to initially connect.

    I’ll try that Graham. Cheers

“But its my works phone , I’ll miss loads of business and maybe get fired if I cant get it back till tomorrow!”

def not an escuse. Pull off the road, stop driving, text, start driving again. It only takes 30 secs.

And if you say it will take ages ‘cos your “slow at texting” then what makes you think you’d be faster at texting whilst driving at the same time?? Police need to be very hard to these people.

    re “White South Africans “

they don’t differentiate by colour here anymore. It’s heavily frowned upon. They are now “The Rainbow Nation”

This week in Johannesburg a woman crashed whilst breast feeding here baby and driving at the same time.

“Johannesburg – An entire family were killed on Thursday morning when the mother – apparently breastfeeding her 1-year-old daughter while driving the car – collided with a bus.

A passenger in the bus lost both her legs when she was flung through the windshield.

Paramedics removed baby Miné’s body from the breast of her mother Eunice Franklin,29, in the driver’s seat of the family’s car.

Toddler Bradley, 3, who was sitting in the front passenger seat without a seatbelt, was decapitated.

The father, Mark, 39, was sitting in the back seat.

A family member, Alta de Villiers, said it is “God’s mercy” that the whole family died together “because Eunice would never have been able to live without her children”

Over here in SA I see people texting/BBMing/Facebooking – whatever it is they’re doing, every single day. On any given journey you will see at least 25% of drivers talking on the phone whilst driving. If you pull into a shop car park you nearly always come up against a woman trying to talk on the phone/steer/change gear who’s taking up all of the road. They drive with kids standing on the front seat leaning on the dashboard or sitting on a parents lap on the front seat.

They routinly overload busses and minibus taxis, they don’t have an MOT requirment – so there are cars on the road with no lights, indicators, mirrors etc. Stopping at red lights is something they only do if there are actually cars crossing the intersection on a green light. I slow down at lights regardless of the colour they are.

Consequently the roads here are a bolldbath.
