Bridport is a nice little town, very rural but nice.
It’s very relaxed and laid back. Quite a shock from Liverpool :-)

Dorchester is only half an hour away for the train and the bus service is every half an hour as well. Great countryside and all that goes with it.

Don’t trust Truckosaurus though, as he has siblings that are obviously ginger and they would fit in well (Hullo Guy, been a while) :D

I believe the extended edition films are still over two discs, as were the original dvd’s.

Happy to be proven wrong though…

@matthew_h – aren’t you forgetting the Lefty. OK, so it’s a bigger diameter but it effectively solves the other problems you mention. Costs a blummin packet though.

Lefty runs on four sets of needle roller bearings on flat bearing surfaces so wont rotate.

I had to ride these down to the shops twice a week. Going back up with a pair of full shopping bags was a bit of a devil sometimes. Only in the rain though…

I love my carbon anthem. 90mm older type with 100mm forks to slightly slacken the head angle a smidge. Use it for everything these days. Weight difference was about 300g, but that is a bonus to the increased stiffness and the carbons ability to dampen vibration.

    Love it.

I read in a recent New Scientist about Germany decomissioning all their nuclear reactors by 2022 in the wake of the Japan situation. They are going back to power stations, They will produce an extra 300 million tonnes of carbon dioxide between now and 2020.

Whilst I am as Gnarr as anyone, apart from the vid, the only thing that ‘gets’ me is the Rainbow Bridge poem (snif…)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

That film has just reduced me to a wreck.

I got my first dog 15 months ago and he is amazing, and the unconditional love you get is awesome.

It’s hopefully a very long way away, but I hate to think about the day he will have to go away.

I see little point in having this debate if you have faith as you dont need facts to support your view

The problem is that you put too much faith in your ‘facts’, forgetting that the FSM uses his noodly appendage to alter the results of all scientific experiments.

Thats quantum physics, that is…….

    Cool

But theoretically, is it photons that would act on a solar sail? And if so, would they have to have mass to propel it through space?

Hopefully this can mean that the political power (leverage) that Murdoch has in this country can be gotten rid of permanently.

Good news on Brooks going, hopefully to the dock.

All the politicians are/were being leveraged by Murdoch and if you didn’t play ball you were destroyed in his rags, newspapers.

Loads for me, Mort, Reaper man was excellent (Miss Flitworth at the end was very, ahem, moving), Granny Weatherwax, Vimes, …

    Actually most of them.
I find that it’s the ones that have a very poignant moment that stays with you.

Some recent ones, for me, havent been so great. Will have to re-read them.

Photons have no mass, that’s why they do travel at the speed of light!

Or do they as they can be acted on by a large enough mass?
Just to be annoying, like :D

Your ruler would get so big that it would be unrecognisable due to the increasing distance between the atoms that it’s made from.

Yeah but.. say you were measuring the light with a ruler – your ruler would be getting longer all the time too – so you’d not see any increase in wavelength…..

To consider the quantum side of things as the photos interact with your eye – for them to be redder, they would have to have less energy – where’s the energy gone?

Imagine the light is a spring. The further you strech it, the lower the frequency of coils for a set distance. To strech this spring you need energy, which reduces the frequency.
Makes sense in my head. Need a coffee now…

Thanks for your question. It is true that nothing can go faster than the speed of light. And it is also true that our universe is expanding faster than the speed of light today. This sounds like a contradiction, but actually it is space itself that is expanding faster than the speed of light, driving objects further apart at an increasing rate. The concept of space expanding faster than the speed of light is not in contradiction with the limit for zero mass particles, ultimate speed. A nice discussion of this can also be found at: http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=575

Just to be annoying, the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light. So we may never get there.

molgrips, as the light source is ‘moving away’ from us and the speed of light is constant, the wavelength increases and shifts to the red end of the spectrum, hence red shift.

Blue shift is due to the wavelength decreasing and moving towards the ‘blue’ end of the spectrum.

    (I think…)

Plus the direction of light can be changed by the mass of quite big objects. And naughty black holes will even steal it and not give it back. Or tell you where it has been hidden! Naughty!
