I was reading somewhere that there’s every chance that Snake Pass will go the way of the Mam Tor road; it’s just one, reasonably likely, decently serious, andslip away from being unrepairable.

As far as I’m aware there is another huge area of concern near Doctors Gate that has potential for a landslip which could close the road!

Investigation work is going to take place during the upcoming closure.

I vote yes!, last year we needed to close Junction 29a southbound offslip on a Saturday evening so some resurfacing work could be carried out on the junction roundabout. National Highways delayed us putting the closure on for around 2 hours because something unforeseen had happened on the M1 around 70 miles to the South of us.

I asked Hope and they confirmed that the calipers can be rebuilt with different seal kits to accommodate dot or mineral fluid accordingly. I was planning on going dot to mineral but haven’t got around to it yet!

DVATC still have a regular Tuesday night ride, mainly starting around the Ambergate – Matlock area, not ridden with them much lately but I’m still in contact with them.

Had the operation on my left little finger twice around 7 years apart and it is still bent over approx 90degrees so if you find a fairly pain free way of removing it let me know 😀

I had one of those bitd, a red CroMega DX, which did break on the dropout just below the chainstay! Bought it second hand but the local bike shop got me a new frame on warranty from Alpinestars. Wasn’t an eleveted stay frame though.

Ha, I assume you meant agree since that was exactly my point.
Loads of roads around here full of potholes, uneven with road base collapsing, edges crumbling away and it just gets sprayed with surface dressing over the lot. By next winter it’s back to being worse than ever.

What i meant was, surface dressing is an excellent way of maintaining the integrity of the road surface, unfortunately due to lack of funding, by the time roads are dressed they are no longer structurally sound, hence my analogy with wooden window frames, doesn’t matter how much surface treatment is applied once the structure is shot, it isn’t of much use.
I appreciate no one likes surface dressing but done correctly at the right time the cost is more that 10x less per m2 than planing off and resurfacing with fresh asphalt and can then extend the life of a road by 10 years or more.

A big part of it is local councils cheaping out using surface dressing rather than resurfacing the roads properly

Disagree with this, problem is massive the under spending on road maintenance has meant that when surface dressing is carried out the roads are already to far deteriorated for it to be of much use. Would you paint your wooden window frames when the wood is rotten? No, you need to carry out the maintenance when they are in good condition, same applies to roads.

Are there issues with the towbar confusing the reversing sensors?

Shouldn’t be if the towbar electrics are fitted properly, the vehicle system should be programmed to turn the sensors off when reverse is selected.

    – roughly how many bikes can a 3m rail take?

I’ve had 8 on mine, could get another one or two on there but there wouldn’t be a lot of room to slide them to get access.

that looks ace. How did you mount it? Are there special brackets or do you bolt through it with a washer? And what did you put in the ends of the track to stop the carriages rolling out?

I screwed it straight onto a joist, one end is butted up to the wall, the other end has a block of wood screwed in place.

I used the Rolling centre stuff for mine like Trail Rat mentioned Rail and these carriages
I bolted on the Park tools hooks I mentioned before. Works great.

I got my threaded Park tools ones from Bikester for £3.49 a few months ago but they have gone up to £5.99 now!

I wouldn’t cut blind into a factory floor without safedigs and a cat and genny!

^ exactly this. Just because it’s an old derelict factory doesn’t mean there will be nothing dangerous buried in the floor slab.

    No H&S risk assessment required

So there will be no buried services in the floor then?

£1.00 for anyone who guesses what this is!

I can remember that bike Muffinman, struggling to remember what it was though, definitely a prototype but was it a aluminium 456? Or even 567!?

I can highly recommend a Solaris. I’m 5’11” on a large LLS Solaris Max, with a 35mm stem and 130mm fork. I think if I was much shorter I’d want a medium, but as it is the large fits really well. Can’t comment on other fork lengths as I haven’t tried anything else, but the 130 rides nicely. Goes up hill well and down even better, easily the best hardtail I’ve ever ridden.

    Exactly this!

Pace RC200 or a Proflex 856, was lucky enough to to have a 1997 Kona Explosif which I still have.

Interested to know how much lighter it is than a standard solaris max

Less than a pound iirc, but happy to be corrected! Nearly bought a Soda Max 2 year’s ago whist waiting for the Solaris Max shipment to arrive, would have cost me an extra £1k for the weight saving so couldn’t bring myself to buy one in the end. Still loving the Solaris Max and I’m not saying I couldn’t be tempted by Ti in the future though.

For me its an easy choice: 2009 Pace RC305.

I bought it on a whim without testing it. It had good reviews, I’d always wanted a Pace and fancied a hardtail again.

Built it up with a 140mm Pike Fox and some other nice bits. It pretty much disappointed the whole time I owned it. It just felt uninspiring and dead. If I had to sum it up in a word it would be “Meh!”.

Had plenty of bikes over the years but this is the only one i was glad to see the back of, to make matters worse it was a 40th birthday present from Mrs boggy

How big a car? Fiat Panda 4×4, Audi A4/A6 Allroad, Volvo xc 70, Subaru spring to mind, all have more ground clearance than a regular car. All 4×4 I know but your probably going to have to look at cars like this to get the ground clearance.

I’ve got an Atera which carries 3 bikes and doesn’t particularly fold down small, my main advice would be to have a look on roofbox.co.uk as they have loads of different options and are great to deal with.
I originally purchased a Buzz rack from them but it didn’t tilt enough on a Smax to get the boot open they suggested the Atera which slides and exchanged without any fuss.

This is the sort of thing you’re after but its a bit over budget, might be other companies that do something a bit cheaper Temperature Loggers

Mumkiemagic, it sounds to me like you’ve fitted the clamp the wrong way round. The hinge should be closest to you and the securing screw furthest away.

As davewalsh says, try turning the clamp around, I did the same thing with mine to start with.

Been using the hi fibre stuff for a while with no issues, what I like about it is that if you swap tyres you can rinse all the residue out with water, unlike Stans.

atera strada DL lets the hatch open on most vans, I’d be surprised if it didn’t work on a galaxy – as the rack slides back-and-down so really gets things out of the way

This should be fine on a Galaxy, I have one that i used to use on a S-Max, the tilting Buzz rack (forget the model) didn’t give enough clearance so it was swapped for the Atera

As above, the Rooster wasn’t designed for suspension forks, the rigid forks are quite a lot shorter a2c than a sus fork so will alter the geometry significantly.

Singular Rooster is 135mm at the back and takes a 3 inch tyre, if you can find one!

I’ve used them and had a similar experience to robbo1234, delivery had still not arrived after 5 days so got in touch and Hermes had damaged it but not told anyone.
The replacement was sent but Hermes made a right mess of delivering that too, they kept sending emails with delivery slots but not keeping to them.
Beer is good but will probably find someone else who doesn’t use Hermes.

I’m using a 11-50 11-speed sunrace cassette with 12-speed SLX rear mech and 11-speed SLX shifter and it works great. Just recently changed the mech from an 11-speed slx, which kind of worked but wasn’t great

HMRC will be carrying out compliance checks on furlough down the line I expect that the first person/company caught will be made and example of.

^ This. A mate works for a large construction company and they have furloghed quite a lot of staff, when I spoke to him about it he said under no circumstances were staff on furlough allowed to do any work. He said HMRC would be checking up and issuing huge fines to any companies breaking the rules.
Seems fair enough really as its basically committing fraud.

Has anything on Wish ever been anything but fake hilariously bad copies?

That is if you even get what you think you have ordered, mate at work ordered a watch for his daughter and they sent a knucleduster, it never arrived but he had a visit from the police after a tip off from Customs!

As above you will need some short travel forks either 80 or 100mm max, I’ve ran both lengths on a Swift and they both work well. I have some 80mm Manitou Tower forks not doing anything if they’re any good to you? Don’t think PM is working at the moment but you can drop me an email on my username @gmail.com
