Going back to the OP, the bit that rankles is the police crowing about chasing some kids off private land at the behest of the landowner. Most folk live on urban estates rather than country estates and may have experienced a rather less enthusiastic response to theft or property damage.

Sounds like a good idea given the likely demand. Stayed at a couple of NT sites last summer- both operating at reduced capacity, the Wasdale site also had additional portable toilets, everything very well maintained. Hoathwaite much more basic, portacabin toilets a bit grotty but regularly cleaned, separate portable showers which are ok. I think Hoathwaite charges £12/night for a small tent, which is good for that location. I wouldn’t choose a site that didn’t have showers. Hope that helps.

That Welsh site never looked great for an edifice aligned to the movement of the Sun, if the weather during the filming is representative. I wonder how many midsummer sun-rises were unseen due to cloud. There were a few stones left behind- which seems odd, given their apparent significance- or maybe they just left the tatty ones behind. Perhaps they were hoping to the develop the market for bluestones by putting the henge in a busier location.

I’d have been quite happy with largely optional measures as adopted in Sweden, I’m not calling for folk to be banned from riding the Pyrenees either.

The mere fact that a 100-year old war veteran raising funds for the NHS is celebrated rather than a national humiliation is sympotomatic of the general national indifference to increasing the capacity of the NHS. We’ve got the NHS that people voted for, it is overwhelmed every winter but bed numbers are reduced rather than increased. Expensive treatments are rationed in order to concentrate resources on those with prospects of remaining quality years of life remaining. Never pleasant to weigh lives against money, but better than not even trying to weigh-up the downsides of consigning millions to unemployment and isolation for an indefinite period.

They are probably all riding the wrong-sized bikes too, surely they need to enlightened on the matter as well as all the other things that they are doing wrong. Is nobody checking-out their make-up routines? The world needs more policing by the sanctimonious STW bigots.

Not really man-on-the moon stuff is it, 60’s was so much better. Bet they weren’t allowed on Apollo if they couldn’t operate a plug and socket.

Timber bresummers spanning bays are at risk of rot if the roof/flashings of the bay leak.

Exclusion of 371 Pfizer participants, mostly in the vaccine rather than placebo group (311 vs. 60), for “other important protocol deviations on or prior to 7days after Dose 2” ought surely to have prompted some questions and explanation of the nature of these unspecified deviations which appear not to be random as between the two arms?

Not sure if this comment on the Pfizer trial has been commented on by our experts- twentyfold suspected v. confirmed infections. https://blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/01/04/peter-doshi-pfizer-and-modernas-95-effective-vaccines-we-need-more-details-and-the-raw-data/

Partly a problem of funding trials of non or off-patent potential treatments- no commercial benefit, so not much decent data available.

Who on earth would trust the government to undertake a “moral balancing act”? Johnson is simply using every available opportunity to use the panic to siphon public money off to his backers while using “the science” to justify ever more crackpot locking-down, while the likes of Tobias Ellwood thumbs his nose at the plebs while attending a Christmas Party to celebtate the destruction of Iraq. And Saint Nicola abandons her futile mask when she thinks she’s out of shot.

Johnson has sufficient intelligence to fix the rules to his own advantage and will be happy that many are stupid enough to think it’s just a happy coincidence.

Not found longevity of the on-ones to be an issue but finer gradation of sizes would be better.

Using language such as “tsunami” is simply hyperbolic fear-mongering of the type that lead to ill-thought panic measures such as the discharge of sick patients from hospitals into care homes.
I agree that it is not unexpected that countries with poor records of protecting the vulnerable can be expected to perform similarly badly when faced with a novel virus. This seems to me an consequence of an electorate which knowingly chooses not to prioritize public health- consequently I don’t see that there is a mandate for an indefinite lockdown.

“More harm than good” is not simply an economic issue- there is in my view an alarming tendancy to support authoritarian responses that inhibits normal social interaction to an unprecendented degree and for an indefinite timescale. The effects of this are unknown.

Keeping diary notes of what happened can be useful for future reference and might also help to “park” issues while you have more pressing priorities.

Given the priority given to handwashing it seems rather obtuse to suggest that this shouldn’t be effective against flu if surface contamination is a major factor. Or that masks will not be at least as effective at intercepting droplets as they are against aerosols.

There seems to be a rather worrying enthusiasm for ruthlessness, presumably the proponents assume that it won’t be used against them, but only against the non-compliant awkward types. I’m sure Cummings and co will be only too delighted to ratchet-up the controls.

I’d be looking (amongst other things) at the flashing under the dormer window sills, appears to lack an upstand to facilitate proper apron flashing, I would expect it may be vulnerable to wind-driven rain.

The issue that still hasn’t been addressed is accuracy. If the app can’t know whether the other phone is the other side of a wall/floor it will produce inaccurate information.

Loads of hybrids used as taxi’s/private hire for short stop-start journeys in town where the benefits of lower exhaust emissions are most noticeable, and regenerative braking means that brake wear is lower. Not much seems to go wrong with Toyota hybrids and they often rack up big mileages.

If you decked and felted the hipped corner bit and used corrugated sheets for the rest that would still give loads of light to the windows- and having a bit of shade available is likely to be useful depending on the orientation- reduce sun-stroke risk etc.

Unless it has happening frequently I think it might just be a fairly normal bodily reaction if there’s more important stuff to be dealt with- fighting off an infection for instance.

I used a polyester based felt on a shed 17 years ago and it’s looking a bit tired but hasn’t leaked yet. Think it was from Wickes. Used more clout nails than usual. As others have said cheap felt doesn’t last, tears easily.

Neira is quoted as saying “it is doing the geographical route expected of a virus that wants to survive” – ascribing agency to a virus is not consistent with science. Perhaps something has been lost in translation.

Given that Cummings can arrange his own press conf. in the no. 10 it seems difficult to avoid the conclusion that Johnson is PMINO. Cummings is quite happy for chaos to ensue, personality politics is transient, useful cover for whatever else he is up to.

Yes I did mean less important. I’m still not clear what “under control” means, Covid 19 is not especially infectious, is there any reason why GP’s should not resume normal service with any suitable PPE that they deem necessary?
It would seem a bit strange if we all had to self-certify as disease-free and fit-as-a-fiddle before being allowed to visit the doctor.

    squadra

What does “under control” mean? Currently many diseases are not being treated beacause the sick have been made afraid to seek treatment- why are the inevitable consequential deaths more important than Covid deaths?

Maybe the prevalence of single-person households in Sweden influenced their decision to make a rational judgement of what precautions could reasonably be suggested, rather than adopt a draconian lockdown espoused by a ruling class that disregards the rules which it promulugates for the plebs.
