FSA Orbit C-40 No.42 ACB Tapered Headset

There’s not a new model replacing it anytime soon, just a deal on a few frames this week.

Challenge Gravel grinder 32mm or 38mm, as fast as a 28 on the road and solid as long as its dry offroad.

Strictly speaking, we’re closing the small warehouse at Magna, the main warehouse remains unchanged, apart from the warranty team moving over there which will speed things up.

I had right side Inguinal open surgery. Two weeks of nowt but walking, then gently back on bike. Always felt a lump in my groin, now it feels like my mesh may have torn.

Waiting for referral for ultrasound etc.

To be fair I’ll probably put the disc all-road versions on my new Bish Bash Bosh as my skinny tyre wheels. I do think they’re the best looking wheels, just not an utterly impervious braking surface. Unlike the Bontrager ceramics that came on my old Adroit, Holy 5hit they lasted three years.

    Should be

    •S.H.I.S. (Standardized Headset Identification System): ZS44/28,6 | EC49/40
    •Semi-integrated (frame bore 44mm) top
•External cup (frame bore 49,6mm) bottom

I never struggled with the noise, though even when carefully set-up it’s always there, but quite pleasant.

What was less pleasant was the fact that i stripped the coating off the back rim in a single wet ride in the peaks. Grit and flint dust on the road side and Exalith rims don’t go together.

Only £300 for a new rim and a few spokes- never again…

It’ll be disc-road for me from here on in.

I’ve just had the warehouse guys pull a set of the RO and the C1. they are definitely front and rear pairs. Can’t imagine these will last long at these prices… i’ll update the content accordingly in a few minutes.

    C1-BLK
    Front 850mm
    Rears 1500MM

    RO-BLK
    Front 840mm
    Rear 1470MM

I’ll check the hose lengths on those. The 85cm quoted is just Formula’s standard measurement unit for their weights and measures. It’s not an indication of whether they are actually FR or RR units. I’ll comment on them being singles as well once the warehouse gets back to me.

    Apologies for any confusion.

54cm at your height, solid lightweight disc equipped bike with full hydros. That’s a very keen price, even for us. Of course you’ll not be able to UCI race it….

I like it, and I like the chainstay, short, 2.4″ and a 36 ring, that’s well thought out.

The Hurricane and Spitfire complete bikes are up on the PX site. There’s a disc road, gravel road and CX race bike coming to join them in the near future. They aren’t the least expensive ti frames you can buy, but the price solely reflects the quality of the materials and their provenance.

They’ll be in the Sheffield showroom this weekend.

Honestly, everything else is second rate compared to the Endura MT500 Waterproof Jacket II. No red but by far the best jacket available for off-road

Medium will be 10.5kg give or take.

It’s a good bike, does what it says on the tin. The frame feels pretty spry and they’re very capable off the beaten track with the right rubber. Hydro’s are a sensible upgrade.

We build them up fine with the Floaters and 1x 11 on GK or X1 chainset. I’ll get the numbers for the cranks, BB tomorrow.

    How wide is your rim?

The quoted weights on the site are actual weights, tolerance was within a few % for those I measured.

Chris i can dig out the exact part spec for BB and 1x chainset on the fatty trail if you’d like?

I’, 5’9″ with a 32″ inside leg, and long in the arm +6 ape index with a short back. The medium fits me perfectly and leaves me with plenty of TT coverage for bunnyhops over obstacles. My road bike is a 52cm TT with a 130mm stem.

Medium BBB feels just right, confident and comfortable.

the large is taller but not much longer.

if the freehub sticks and you’re pedalling slower than your back wheel is now coasting your rear mech travels back wards and gets ripped off.

A little bit of drag is neither hear nor there, all my bikes drag, because I grease the crap out of the freehub mech to make them quiet. I’ve never snapped a rear mech / chain because of it though.

Just match the battery voltage to the light, 4.2 or 8.4 v (fully charged) as long as the pin fits and it’s centre positive (they nearly always are) you’ll be fine.

Of those two bikes in the original post the Super Prestige is defo a CX bike, shorter, tighter in the back and with a higher BB. The Tomac Montezuma is a more rounded bike and it’s been really comfortable on road and trail. The quality on both frames is bang on, we’ve not had a single one of either model back for warranty and the original R&D bikes are still going strong with 1000’s of hours on them. I was going to go for a road disc this season and squeeze some 28mm on there for crappy roads but the Montezuma put paid to that idea. It’s more versatile soaks up bad roads and it’s a blast out and down through the park and into the peak on a Sunday morning.

Yup, 23 to 25 mm will make more difference to feel that a material frame swap.

    Try softer pads…

    Define modulation!

A bigger disk doesn’t alter the ratio of lever throw/piston pressure, but it does alter the friction at the pad for any given speed of wheel rotation. A bigger disk will give you more stopping power, but that’s more likely to be more bite at any point on the lever rather than a progressively increasing ratio of lever force to piston friction.

You can learn to be more gentle….

33mm Lightbike 26″on my SX, very happy with them, never touched a spoke on them and the tyre profile with dirty dans and HR2 is very much more grippy than my Mavics were. I run relatively high psi though.

There’s also the physical leverage applied by a bigger cog to consider, especially as it has a significant side loading on 1x systems. There’s a good reason Hope increased the bearing size on the Pro4

    Paul, nice catch that’s a steal…

My bad on the 26″ reference; 200 clearance bikes to photograph and write content for in 5 days and get on the website, I’m sure there’s a couple more errors in there if you look closely enough. There’s certainly a load of bargains in there.

The Dee Dar will be back very soon, as a full production bike.

Don’t forget to pump up those forks and turn and tighten the bars before you ride it Paul ;-)

So are they welded in the Uk, or not? I couldn’t find that specific claim on the website, so do we assume they are pacific rim made to measure?
