The stealth is ok in reasonably warm conditions, i rode mine as a spring jacket, all vents open, bib shorts on underneath. The lower back and kidneys do absorb a lot of moisture though, so it does get ass cold if you stop moving, the big double lower back pocket is to blame i guess.

I was out the night before last though with just a LS helly wicking top on underneath riding across the top of the Peak District and it was marvellously warm, even had to open the side vents going up to Burbage from the bottom of Stannage.

The same thing will happen to the UK cycling industry as happened with the sport markets. Sales will drop hugely, brands will look to larger more cost effective European distribution deals or replace distributors entirely with their own lean service.

this happened in the snow/surf/kite/skate markets already.

Your Fox/Rockshox forks distributors add about 40% to the cost of your forks. Not a bad slice for holding stock, arbitraging the markets and refusing warranty support.

You’ve had crap trapped in your seals, that’s scraped your stanchions, a lack of service, cleaning, turning them upside down after periods of no use has allowed the foam rings to dry exacerbating it. It goes on the brake side first because that leg is under the most twisting load.

If that was an air shock it would now be shagged. it’ll be interesting to see how PACE handle it.

kill them, and be done with it, you know all the real fun was making them in the first place, so draw a line under it and start over… eh?

The sun got the better of it today at Wharnecliffe, started to get muddy under the powerlines.

The P7 are good torches, but they aren’t assembled with high shock loads in mind.

Having stripped my 2 mode down i can see where it’s likely to fail, the leads to the die head look like a potential failure point due to brittle failure around the soldering and the gubbins in the tail section, which takes some removing, could do with being ‘potted’ with resin to stop them shaking to bits.

Bloody good for the money, but they will last longer on your helmet.

unscrew the end caps, remove the axle, pull off the freehub body, and check the two internal pawl/spring units. you’ve either shredded them, lost the springs or fouled them with crap.

Should be a ten minute job if you haven’t trashed the body with huge G-out landings.

The Juicys are ok, they can tend to squeal a bit, but if yours don’t then don’t worry. Simple to bleed, well not as simple as Hopes.

If the reach and bite point suits your needs, then there’s nothing to worry about.

I do believe the Elixir is a better designed unit however.

Skip the bike shops get a pair of 5.10 Guide Tenne’s from one of the outdoor shoes. Flat soles with little slightly raised circles, much better grip on pedals than the Sam Hill pro shoes and stiffer in the midsole than the skate style flatties.

Take up any bearing slack and nip the hell out of the QR. A little spoke tension never hurt either.

I’m seen all three of those on the shelf in James’s and there’s nowt wrong with any of them. if you are buying old then it makes sense to source a few sets of shock bushes and back end bearings.

Decent forks last long enough and the good models are easily serviced for several years, look how long Boxxers ran virtually unchanged.

Teh only real issue these days is all the new formats for parts and hub standards, who knows what will and what won’t make the cut.

Tossed the morning off on the downhill runs in Wharnecliffe woods, wonderful weather, cold crisp and firm underfoot (wheel).

Roadie day tomorrow, my knees can only take so much pedalling when they are touching my chin.

yeh, MTE ssc-900 Torch from dealextreme, $39 + another $20 or so for battery bar mount and charger, if all you want is blinding light for 60 minutes you can’t go wrong.

Their 900 lumens claim is optimistic, more like 600-700.
