If you were asking about the lightweight wheels, they are superb, but absolutely no f-ing use as anything other than race wheels, I sold mine on after less than a month, they would have lasted six months with the grit the Peak puts into your brake blocks.

The problem with the external BB’;s is that they are sealed from the elements on the outside, but not on the inside.

both my bikes let rear tyre spray find its way down the seatpost into the seat tube and eventually into my BB bearings, no two ways about that. That was until I filled the botttom of each seat tube with a wine cork and some silicon. Job done. BB bearings used to last sub six month, now lasting forever, 18 month+ so far.

It comes down to how you ride. MY BLT is 24lbs on the nail, very light, all carbon parts. I’m happy to ride it seriously full tilt down Stannage/Long Causeway, but i ride very smooth.

Similarly my DH bike is a 36lb Demo 7, i run Mavic SX wheels on that, thye hold up for what i need, but i’ve been out with mates who on the same day as me have written of much heavier wheelsets due to the way they ride ‘at’ stuff, rather than ‘over’ it..

I’ve got EC90’s on my xc bike, with Smica bar ends, they have the ‘right’ clamp type, the bars still cracked. Unless you use inserts, they will always crack.

Check stem, seatpost, pedals and BB.. seatpost noise almost alwasy sounds like soemthing much lower down.

Rule them out before you start wasting time on the pivots.

vote number 2 for Metanium, it’s a better barrier cream than Sudocrem, which is just a better known brand name. it has a higher titanium dioxide ratio than Sudocrem and is utterly waterproof.

try them both, i know which you’ll discard.

The Smica Pro is lighter and as strong as the thomson, not such a looker and the clamp is a prick, but they last. The Smica quality is good enough for Ritchey to use the stems as their top WCS alloy model.

The rougher your trail is the more comfort you will get from a full susser at speed.

Up until it starts getting pretty damn rough you can ride most things just as fast on a hard tail, but not with anywhere like as much comfort as on the full susser.

Full sussers make life more comfortable and that opens up riding to more people. (and manufacturers make more coin on them).
