Much weirdness for me! I’m 6’1″ and all my bikes (6) have 175mm cranks except one (the cranks that came with the bikes), the one that hasn’t has 172.5 and feels much nicer to pedal!

I’m quite happy on the longer cranks and have no issues with riding those bikes all day, but the shorter ones just feel sweeter. I’ve messed about with all the bikes seating positions and such like to try and make them all feel that sweet but to no avail. Everything else is the same on the bikes, all SRAM, all GPX BB’s (except one, not the sweet one though). I wouldn’t have thought that 2.5mm would’ve made that much difference, but it does!

Alert In The West is a great account of a FW190D pilot in the latter stages of WW2.

    Alert In The West

Combat Crew by John Comer is a harrowing account of the US bomber offensive, he was a flight engineer in B17. A fantastic book!

Either of you gents been to the new stadium?

Yeah, 1st game against Palace, and Man City. Didn’t go to the Huddersfield game as I was working, can’t get to the Brighton one on Tuesday either, Wet Spam next Saturday is looking good though!

We’ve already got a name for the south stand, it isn’t The Wall or any of the other pony that’s been suggested it’s Park Lane and always will be!
The Goal Line bar is becoming a problem as they’ve started to close it as too many people in there, we’re going to resort to the old plan ‘A’ (pub) for the next game, heard rumours the the Olive Tree has closed down though ☹️

Can’t wait to hear how it sounds in the new ground …. and I’ll be happily taking my lad to see it and hear it …. worts and all… just like life ??

It’s loud, very very loud! They’ve done a great job with the acoustics so that any singing from different parts of the ground doesn’t get disjointed.

I’ve got no problem with taking my grandson to Spurs, he started going in the Park Lane end just before his 5th birthday. Sure he hears bad words but kids hears stuff in the school playground as well, so long as they know that they mustn’t repeat them all is good.

Wish it had been the proper European night kit …. White shirt, white shorts, white stockings.

So do I but our white shirts have that horrible blue band at the bottom that ruins the all white look.

Still can’t get over that match last night, it must’ve been great for those that were there.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, very rarely does it turn into actual fisticuffs. Shouting and chanting at each other are part of the tribal/pack animal instinct that’s embedded in most of us (humans, not footie supporters). Various NZ teams like a bit of shouty intimidation before a game and everyone thinks ‘ah, isn’t that nice’. 😂

Ask your boy if he wants another go at watching it with a crowd, although he may have been worried, at his age I bet he thought it was mildly exciting as well?

PS; Spurs v Man City on telly again at 12:30 on Saturday. COYS!

Can’t express how much more pleasant than usual my commutes across Waterloo bridge were today. And how grim the other bits felt by comparison.

Same for me yesterday, Bayswater, Marble Arch, and Oxford Street were so relaxing without the cabs and vans trying to squeeze me out. Hope it continues!

OP, that’s a bit of a sweeping generalisation?

Yes you will hear some fruity language and a lot of passion being expressed, but it was in a bar between 8-10pm.

I thought The Beat were the best of the Two Tone bands, RR was an integral part of that.

Let’s just hope that Jonathan Ross doesn’t read the eulogy though!🤣

To flat spot my tyres I stand the finished model on sand paper and gently “brum” it like a kid with a toy car. I don’t make any noises though

Try the iron method, it bulges the sidewalls out a bit to give the impression of weight. Practice on an old wheel first as it’s easy to overdo it.

I tend to agree that a lot of the weathering/detailing you see these days is super exaggerated.

Especially panel lines, compare the kit panels on the Airfix Victor above with the pics of the Duxford example.

I weight the tyres by putting a piece of kitchen foil on the sole plate of an iron and pressing the wheel on it, nice controllable heat so I don’t ruin it.

That B17 looks a nice kit, but I think that the panel lines on the fuselage are overdone, it looks quilted! 😂

Nice A1, brute of a plane!

here is my latest actual finished kit in about 16 years

I can beat that, I’ve got a half finished Jaguar (Fat Slags, op Granby) that’s been in a box since the mid 90’s. I’ll get it done one day.

Jesus Christ I just had a look at how much a Festool Domino is!!! I’d have to sell my 3 kids for medical experiments to but that 😂

I may go for the cowboy option…

Stick with it, it’s quite entertaining once you get past the American ‘humour’.

Nice work on the cockpit, I’ve never thought of copying the decals before.
Looks like you may be needing a bit of filler on that one!😂

The panel lines are very pronounced on that kit, looking at the Duxford restoration pic above you can hardly see them.

Sainsbury’s sell it 😀 It’s now called Pledge Multi Surface Polish.

It’s not the same stuff, they changed the formula and it’s not as good.

The floor polish from Lakeland (green label I think?) is supposed to be nearer the original Klear.

    🤣🤣🤣

I was using Vallejo Metal Colour, it’s acrylic so it doesn’t stink.

I posted a pic of the bench in the ‘last thing you made’ thread. I’ll try and post further pics as I go on, even the embarrassing muck ups! 😂

Definitely some food for thought there, thanks all.

I may buy the carcasses as I only need 6 for the wall, but the doors I’ll have to make as I need 30ish doors and drawer fronts (plus the extra 6 wall cupboards) and the cost will be prohibitive to buy them ready made.
I have a garage to work in with a decent bench (table saw included), a router table will soon be set into one end of it as well so I seem to have the tools required.
I also have the time as I do weird shifts that give me a week off every 7 weeks, coupled with that is Mrs Spursn17 who is pretty relaxed about when it gets done and the mess involved.

Sleeves up and time to get stuck in soon!

Happy to report back that masking with Tamiya tape hasn’t pulled any paint off (yet), I’ll do more tomorrow.

I got a Buzzcocks ‘Orgasm Addict’ t-shirt for Xmas, Mrs spursn17 apparently thinks it’s not appropriate wear for a 60 yr old!

    Ferkin’ is! 😀

I have done a load of doors this week with a tongue and groove router cutter set, letting 6mm panels into 18mm rails and stiles. It’s deffo a lot more hassle than gluing strips around the edge of an existing panel. 😉

Genuine question kayak, and I’m really not taking the mick, why didn’t you do the 6mm and glue thing instead of slotting the rails and stiles on that then?

Watch out for that metal paint – its looks great but it doesn’t like being handled much so I’d spray it with Klear or similar before you do much else to the model. It doesn’t like masking tape either, even the low tac stuff.

It handled being smothered in Blutack ok, I did let it dry for a couple of days in a warm room first though. Need to mask a couple of bits later to correct some errors. I’ll report back.

Next up some Vallejo Metal Colour (aluminium), first time I’ve sprayed this paint and I was impressed. I will definitely use this again.
Olive drab on the top surfaces and it’s stating to look ok.
I used my new Harder and Steenbeck Infinity airbrush on this and it was fantastic, the Iwata is going to be relegated to varnishes now!

Update on the P51D. The black primer had a few spots on it that I tried to sand off, big mistake as it started peeling off!
I hit it with some 1500 wet and dry and managed to save it.

…and if I was using 18mm + 6mm (24mm) I may as well just use 25mm. Come to think of it I’ve got some 25mm in the garage, I may have a go at making a door with it next week.

    spursn17

Another thing you could do is to use a single 18mm panel for the size of your door, then cut your 80mm strips in 6mm and glue and pin them around the edges

Yeah, I thought of doing that. It’s not ideal as it’s a lot of faffing about though, and I don’t want the hinge holes to push the front bit off when drilling them. The 22mm is a pain in the bum to get but it’ll make a better job of it.

    Kayak
I’m using it for the rails and Stiles on shaker style doors and I’ll be cutting it into 80mm strips. I don’t mind cutting it myself, and am trying to keep the cost down as I’ve still got a lot of work to on the house.

    Aldi saw is 160.

The depth gauge is out on that anyway, you have to add extra for the thickness of the track.

Would the extra 5mm on that blade make any difference?

    spursn17

I’ve decided that I need a better blade (160×20) for my Aldi/Scheppach tracksaw as I’d like a smoother cut, what should I buy?

1971 Dodge Polara station wagon, 8×4 fits flat on the floor and fits between the rear wheel arches. One I’ve the best cars I’ve had but a bit strong on fuel!

As for where it happened it was in Derbyshire and it’s never been anywhere else.

Looking at the state of it I would guess that parts of it are in some of the neighboring counties! 😂
