It’s also the number 1 tactic hitler employed and all the other murderous dictators in history on their rise to power.

This, and it worries me a great deal.

Some people spout some horrendous views, but they will gather momentum and grow if driven underground. Once those views take hold and do grow then they’ll be hard to stop and there will be a backlash. The growth of the Nazi’s was a prime example of a distasteful group that grew under those conditions, McCarthyism in early 1950’s USA (now Trump’s ‘fake news’ idiocy), the witch hunting years in this country is another. When to be accused equals being guilty, society is in trouble.

Debate is not perfect, but it’s better than the puritanical attitudes that are on the up now.

I watched it for the first time during lockdown. I couldn’t find a single reason to laugh. Slightly gutted but I just didn’t get it at all. I thought it was rubbish.

Offers over is a marketing ploy by the estate agent to try and increase the price in the Uk

Absolutely this, it’s because their fee is a percentage of the sale. Modern Auction is another pain in the backside that I’m dealing with trying to buy a house for my dad. Just give me a rough idea what you want me to pay and then we’ll do a ‘Wheeler Dealer’ = I’ll offer X, seller says ‘no, I wanted Y’, and we’ll settle in the middle!

You don’t see the OIEO or Modern Auction so much on online estate agents sales such as Purple Bricks and their ilk.

Thanks very much. STW is always the best source for electrical info, much better than Lambretta forums or modelling one’s! 😀

Thanks spanishfly, that’s about what I worked it out at (after reading up on it), I just needed it confirming by someone who knows what they’re doing!

The cable is in good condition, and it runs around the eaves so it’s in a pretty cool area, but it does run in insulation from the ceiling to the cooker switch (about 5′ long). Will that hurt it if I put an extra 0.7kw through it?

    I bought this from Screwfix…

    Dewalt

It does everything I want it to, and I use it a lot! Mind you, just after I bought that I also bought a Lidl combi drill (as a screwdriver). It was a 20v one and not the little weak 12v, that also does everything I want as well, I think that it’s got a metal gearbox. The upside is that I’ve now bought some extra batteries and an angle grinder in the same Lidl range and that’s good as well.

Thanks all, went with Doorsteps in the end. Jury is out, I’ll update with the verdict when it’s all done.

If it’s mainly for messing about with an Arduino I’d just install Linux Mint on it and not mess about with Windows. Mint plays very nicely with an Arduino.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll get a hob and see how it goes when I’m fitting the cupboards.

One more thing, roughly how deep are they? I’m thinking of getting solid laminate worktops and they’re thinner than the normal ones.

That is a very nice Swordfish JonEdwards, fantastic work. Seeing that makes me wonder why I bother! 🙂

I thought I’d post a little update on where I am with my Stug III. It’s nearly finished apart from a few paint details and the exhaust, and also an ID flag on the rear stowage. I decided to add some figures to make it look ‘alive’ and not just a static museum piece. I’ve modified two figures so far to show them as they may be after just getting out of the vehicle after a tough battle. Figure one (still needs filler smoothing) is sitting against it exhausted, and figure two will be bent over as if vomiting. not decided one the other two yet, maybe one bandaging the other? Comments/criticism always welcome.

I’ve got GXP on 5 bikes (6 if you count the garage turbo bike) and have never had a problem with them, I can’t remember the last time I replaced one. The only one I had that creaked was a new PF30 one, regreased and tightened up it’s been ok for 5000 miles now.

When I service my bikes I always pop the bottom bracket oil seals off and slap in some marine grease, and always tighten up the crank allen bolt with a torque wrench (54nm). I much prefer SRAM cranks and GXP BB’s to Shimano.

I had this last week, all of my outgoing mail seen as spam by receivers.

I have my own domains for email, got in touch with TSOhost and they sorted it, something to do with certificates (I think), tech bod changed something and all is well. Weird as it’s been running smoothly for a couple of years now.

    Prime
Preshade the panel lines in black, preshade the middle of the panels with a fairly mottled white.
Spray the brown (lots of dilute coats until you get the correct level of preshading showing through)
    Mask
Top up the preshading, both black and white, on the non-masked areas
Spray the green. (lots of thin coats as before)
Pull off the masking, hoping the paint stays attached to the plastic, not the tape!

Yep, done all of that. Still looks pony! 😂

I was wondering if there’s anything I should be doing to get the decals on more successfully?

stumpy01, so long as you make the surface glossy you wont need anything else apart from a matt coat when its all dry. I’m a big fan of the floor polish method, you dont need to airbrush it, I always use a brush to apply it as its so thin that you hardy ever see brush marks. I’ve had a bottle of the original Kleer for over 25 years and I reckon that I’ve got about two years worth left!
Kleer is now called Pledge floor polish but the formulation is different and doesn’t give as good results as the old stuff. Floor polish from Lakeland is rumoured to be close to the original Kleer but I’ve not tried it yet. Or just buy any model paint gloss and matt! 😊

a terrifying T-54 with over 1000 parts (probably 900 of them make up the tracks!)

johndrummer, I’m the same, I’ve got a Takom King Tiger with a full interior and am too scared to start it!

munrobiker, nice work on that engine!

Im amazed you can double the cost of the kit with photoetch parts and seatbelts.

Just double, I wish! I’ve had a 1/48 B26 Marauder on the go for a few years and I dread to think how much I’ve spent on the extras, decals/resin wheels/photoetch/resin .50 cals/more decals it goes on and on.

I think I bought the Tamiya Gold Leaf Lotus 49 three times

I remember making the Marlbro M23 McLaren years ago, loved that kit but I’m not shelling out for one now..
A tad over my price limit

And which manufacturers do the best kits?

If starting from scratch I’d suggest one of the newer 1/72 Airfix kits. For tools you’ll be able to get away with a Stanley knife blade, Emery board or nail file, and nail clippers to cut parts from sprue.
Try brush painting for your first effort as you can get decent results from several thin coats. I would stay away from Tamiya paint for brushing as it doesn’t play nicely. Lifecolor, Vallejo, or Mig will work ok and you can buy sets of paint for specific builds.

I’ve been having passable success with the Vallejo Metal Colour stuff. Acrylic and plays reasonably nicely.

I used this as well on my P51 (also on page 23). It sprays nicely and looks very good, be careful with masking though as I found it was easy to peel it off the primer coat. A good thing with it is that you can touch up mistakes easily with a brush, unlike Alclad!

Here’s where I’m at with my Stug, next on the to do list is to modify some figures for it.

Train operators and TfL have taken massive hits. I think TfL was down £400m in lost ticket revenue over the course of last week.

London Underground line controller here, job is pretty safe so no complaints on that score! It’s weird seeing the platforms so empty on a Monday, traffic on the streets is noticeably quieter as well. Made for a nice ride in this morning though.
I can’t see some of the small businesses surviving without the tourists and workers walk past trade, coffee shops and takeaway food outlets look deserted.

I’ve been watching a lot of “Schitt’s Creek”. It’s a brilliant comedy where the characters grow the longer it goes on. 8/10

This. I watched all 5 seasons in 2 weeks, funniest thing I’ve seen for ages. When it starts it seems a bit cheesy, but persevere with it as it gets much better.

I’m torn between a pair of Solovairs, or MiE DMs, as they are the same price. Leaning towards Solovair as they are a wee company, rather than the international concern that DMs are now.

    This.

    …but I need yellow stitching! 😃

some reports that quality has dropped through the floor.

New Doc’s time coming up soon and I’ve been reading that the quality control is a bit hit and miss these days. I’m trying to decide between a pair of made in England 1460’s, or a pair of Solovair Derby’s (their 1460). Not buying a pair of Martens after 45 years of wearing them feels dirty and like being unfaithful?

Anyone gone down the Solovair route? I’d miss the yellow stitching.

then took turns to try and navigate through the asteroids by placing a pencil tip down and holding it at the top with your finger tip – pushing down made the pencil skid off and draw line

Blimey, that takes me back! At junior school back in the late 60’s we used to draw a race track with a start/finish line and use that method to get round it.

I got my Humax Freesat recorder about a month ago from Currys.

Like others have said, I use catch-up mostly, my little triffid (mrsspursn17) prefers to old school it with recordings though.

I have a range of fairly blunt old heirloom chisels

I’d give these a go before buying a new set, the steel on the old ones may be very good quality?

I’ve had a couple of Bahco 424p chisels that have been great over the last few years, this Xmas someone bought me a set of them but the new ones are made in Spain instead of Sweden like my old ones.
The jury is out, and the verdict will be delivered in a couple of months 😃

    Update

After some dark washes over the lightened base colour I applied several light grey washes of varying shades, RAF Dark Sea Grey seemed to work really well to lighten it even further. This was then followed up by more darkening of shadowed areas with washes of Lifecolor 207 Dunkelgrau, then even more washes of the lighter greys to the centre of panels and anywhere that would get faded first. I then applied some of the Lifecolor Dunkelgrau with some sponge as if I were applying chipping to show the original colour through the fading.

Where I am now is that I’ve just used some Phthalo blue oil paint dots to filter the panels and add back in the blue tone of the Dunkelgrau, followed by some selective filtering with black and a very small amount of burnt umber oil dots. I found this blue to be a very strong colour and used it very sparingly.

I’m finding it difficult to take pics of the Stug that show the true colour of it, every pic I take is different from the last one. Next up will be some pastels to dust it up a bit.

    Cheers

It will never be big enough!😂

I have a single garage and have put storage units down one side only, along the opposite wall is my home made workbench which I built on heavy duty locking castors. I also have a Halfords tool cabinet on wheels which I can also move to wherever I want it, I find being able to roll things around makes good use of a small space (depending on what you’re doing at the time).
I also ‘acquired’ some Tesco stacking veg crates and bolted the bottom one to MDF with castors on, this is very handy for movable storage.

Put shelves up high if you can as this will leave more space lower down. I’m lucky as I have a boarded loft space in the garage where I can store a lot of the stuff I rarely use, I’d be lost without it!

Have rules – no household crap in there, I foolishly agreed to a second fridge and hate the space it takes up.

Damnation – a drama about a group of farmers striking in 1930’s midwest America.

This got pretty violent very quickly and had me hooked, burnt through the whole 10 episodes in a week of train commutes!

    No series 2 though ☹️
