more likely burnt the gasket out on 2 and 3.

    @duncancallum
    reckon it’s worth trying?

Running it with a coolant leak leading to overheating. Head warps, losing you the compression on the rest of the cylinders.

Yep, sounds like that’s it. It was very hot!

If you wanted to keep it, shouldn’t have run it with a blown head gasket.

Yeah I know, sorry dad 😂😂😂😂

Doing the cam belt was such a pig of a job that its been putting me off doing the head gasket. It was a cheap van but I liked it.

Pull your skirting boards and pull your kickplates. Don’t half arse it with 1/4 round.

    Yeah, skirting is off.

    How old is she?

One of my dogs is 15 now and she has got lumps on her and is getting weak back legs. The vet said at her age to leave the lumps alone and let her enjoy her old age in peace without the stress of treatment, I agreed with the vet as I feel sometimes we keep our pets going for our sakes.
They have relatively short lives compared to us anyway, so long as they’ve been happy then our job is done, as sad as the end is.

@BillMC Whipps Cross was mine as well.
It was a fantastic location being right on the edge of Epping Forest, such a shame when it closed and fell into disrepair. We used have a lot of fun building rafts in there when it was derelict as well, I remember there being fish in the manky water!

Anyone remember when a (smaller) boat got stuck in a river near Sutton Bridge? One end wedged on each bank.
Then the tide went out and it snapped!

I live about a mile from where this happened and was interested enough to read the report, apparently the crew just climbed down a ladder, walked away from it, and disappeared!

Local hardware shop, buy some blackboard paint, thin it appropriately, job done.

It doesn’t have to be model specific paint.

Try something by Tamiya, ideally something you don’t normally do

You’re probably right. I think it was the rubbish quality of the Revell F105 that has killed me, I put a fair bit of work in and I’m still not happy with it. I might try some 1/72 kits, or I’ve got a couple of American car kits and an Airfix air sea rescue boat in the pile. I’ve been trying to do some airbrush illustrations this last month or so, that’s given me a nice little break from kitbuilding and I’m hoping it’ll recharge the batteries.

@kelvin London and the home counties, not just London.

My missus is from the North (a large council estate in South Leeds), and I’m from a very less than affluent background in East London, so I’ve seen it from two very different perspectives over the last 40 years. When I first started going to Leeds in 1979 I was appalled by how racist the ordinary people were and it changed enormously over subsequent years, and this is why I feel just labelling Hartlepool residents is unhelpful.

A simple comment, that is no doubt true. The next step… what actions should it inform, and who will carry out those actions?

I wish I knew mate, I’m not that smart (the result of a poor education?), but I hope someone else is smart enough!

@monkfish brilliant job on the Camel! I’ve been thinking about getting one but the WNW kits are very expensive at the moment.

I’ve lost my mojo and haven’t touched a kit for a while, I lost interest in the F105D I was building and can’t get it back.

Reading the first 1-2 pages of this post seems to me why Labour are struggling in the polls recently.

I have no political affiliations and I believed in the past that you should vote according to the issues of the day and on possible solutions. Many people choose their political affiliations and adhere to that for the rest of their lives (like following a footie team), and there’s nothing wrong with that view. But reading the first couple of pages, and the sneering at the Hartlepool locals is where it’s going wrong, people feel abandoned by the ‘champagne socialist’ elite and their middle class hand wringing followers, and turn to whoever else is talking to them. Remember Emily Thornberry’s white van man remark a few years ago? Well some of you have have repeated that with your attitudes.

I would really like a stronger left in this country as we are so unbalanced politically at this moment but we are not going to get it anytime soon. Labour has tried for many years to make inroads into the Tory strongholds of London and the home counties that they have now been absorbed into them, as a result I feel the people in deprived areas feel they have nobody fighting for them. To simply pass them off as racist scumbags is wrong, education (in whatever form) is key. Racists don’t always stay racist, you can change people’s opinions, usually by giving them hope.

How did all the land become private in the first place?

You’ll have to blame Mrs Windsor and her predecessors for that, a lot of the land was granted to lords for their services. I ride through Sandringham and there’s a lot of land I can’t ride on because apparently it belongs to them, their poor racehorses need miles and miles of land as they need peace and quiet. ****!

Catch 22 for me also, but I was about 15 so probably worth another shot.

I read Catch 22 in my teens and thought it was utter bilge, reread it again in my late 40’s and thought it was really good.

Jodeph Heller served in a B25 squadron in Italy in WWII, and started writing the book around 10 years later. He was probably writing from the point of view of someone that had had experiences that had aged him prematurely. I think that is when you have to read it, when you’re older and more jaded and cynical.

I thought the film was rubbish, and still do. The TV series from 2019 was a different matter though as that was very good, it caught the spirit (and ridiculousness) of the book brillliantly!

I think you’ve overdone the panel wash on the Lightning Jon to the point where it looks like a cartoon of a Lightning. Also you’ve applied the decals over the top of the panel wash.

The paint on the Lightning is a cracking job, I couldn’t get anywhere near as good as that on a 1/72 kit, the comment quoted above is a fair comment though.
This is the sort of comment/criticism I look for when I post pics of my models as making kits is usually done in isolation, I’ll show them to my family and the response is ‘oh yeah, very nice’ but they don’t really have any idea of what they’re looking at. Getting the honest opinion of my modelling peers is very important to me, so feel free to have a dig at mine if it’s warranted as it’s a path to getting better!

PS; my F105 is very close to going in the bin, I’m really not happy with it.

    1971 Dodge Polara Station wagon
1970 Plymouth Satellite (had tears in my eyes when I sold that)
Loads of Lambrettas and Vespas, I’d buy every one back if I could.

I’ll get another late 60’s yank when I get my pension lump sum (next 2 years), my missus will have the hump though!
I won’t bother with another Lammy as they are ridiculous money to buy now, I’d have one if they were reasonable.

What’s everyone’s go to for reproducing RLM paint on Luftwaffe..? Seems like none of the usual suspects do a good match

I like Vallejo for Luftwaffe colours, their RLM02 is quite good.

To keep up with the back story you really need to have seen some of the previous series. Series one wasn’t that good, series 2 was better, but 3 was when it got seriously good!

On our 4th rescue dog over 30 years now (1 from Battersea, 3 from a rescue), all of them unknown temperaments when we got them. All of them have been great with kids/grandkids!

I think the rescues can be over cautious when you have kids, although I can understand why.

    I love this thread!

…and me, it’s the first thread I look for! It’s great to see all of the different stuff that people are making, things that I wouldn’t normally be interested in.

The only thing that I don’t like is the amount of kits that @johndrummer gets through, he makes me feel ashamed at the pace I plod along at! (I’ve been trying to put a laughing emoji here but can’t do it, feel free to use your imagination!). LOL

Very glad to see the 89 minute defensive strategy didn’t work.

I’m getting pig sick of playing this way now and we deserve to get beaten playing this negative dross, I think that our attacking players are losing their sharpness as they’re defending most of the time.

I didn’t want Jose when he came to us, and those reservations have remained, but when we were on a winning streak I thought that I was wrong and maybe there was something in him (fickle, I know!). After four bad results in a row I can see us losing more as we can’t seem to get away from this defensive rubbish, it goes against the culture of the club and I think that some of the players are having difficulty with it.

If we win a cup I’ll have to eat my words, but it’ll have to be a better cup than the League Cup.

However soft edges do tend to look a bit nicer on model kits

Yep, that’s another way of looking at it. Replicating a hard edge can leave a minute raised lip which looks weird, you got the Vulcan spot on!

Whatever looks good is the right way to go about it, it’s more about looking at it when it’s finished and feeling happy with it. Some of the kits I made as a kid I would look upon with horror now, but I’ve still got fond memories of them.

Build to suit yourselves (and your shelves)! 😂

@ChrisL that Vulcan looks big enough (and clean enough) to eat your dinner off! Nice smooth paint job.

    @garage-dweller
it also depends what you’re making. Some subjects had hard edge camouflage (Spitfire, Hurricane) as rubber mats were used to mask the paint in the factory. Another consideration is the scale, a soft edge in 1/72 is a lot different to a soft edge in 1/32.
If it looks good from 4 foot away then you’ll have done a good job.

My F105 has stalled again! The Revell decals disintegrated when I applied them, aftermarket ones now ordered. I really wanted to use the kit one’s as the were for ‘Arkansas Traveller’ that had the pilots kill markings from WWII under the cockpit, I can’t get them on an aftermarket sheet. I’m starting to get a bit disheartened with this kit, it’s got a few flaws and it seems like a step backwards build. It might fly towards the bin soon! 😂

I’ve been a bit stuck with the F105 as I didn’t fancy masking the SEA scheme, after a few weeks of it sitting on the desk I bit the bullet and airbrushed it freehand! I surprised myself as it didn’t turn out too bad, I’m starting to love my Harder and Steenbeck airbrush.

When I was a bus driver in London in the 80’s and 90’s the complaining punter was an almost daily occurance. A mate of mine, when faced with a red faced buffoon shouting and screaming, would very slowly and calmly take a book of stamps out of his pocket and give one to them. He would say ‘that’s for the letter of complaint you’re going to send in because I’m not interested’.

I just used to tell them that when they complained to tell the company that I called you a (###)t as well, very rarely had anyone complain!
