    Update on the Pfalz DXII

Cockpit now finished with seat belts and ready to be glued to fuselage.

Cockpit fitted, engine test fitted but not glued, lower wing attached. Cockpit was a right git to get in, really tight!

I’ve been wondering how to represent the wood on the propeller with paint, so I made one out of wood instead! I bought a pack of veneer off of Ebay for £3.50, glued seven layers together then carved and sanded it.

    Pingu, how’s the Spit going?

The Wingnutwings Pfalz is the best kit I’ve ever bought, really fine detail, fantastic instruction book, and Cartograph decal sheets (2 of them). I’ll post update pics as I build it (slowly!).

If your Spit is the 1/24 one it dates from the early 1970’s, it will still make into a nice model though.

I wish I had your Mossie if that’s the new big one as it’s supposed to be really good, do it justice, and post some pics as you make it.

    Nice Spit munkster!

“Can anyone suggest me a website to buy some model kits? Is Airfix pretty well regarded or are there better ones?”

+1 for munkster’s link, I’ve used them loads of times. very quick delivery.

This is also a good shop with quick delivery http://www.hannants.co.uk/

Decide what model you want to build and then find out which company makes the best kit of it, they all have their good and bad kits.

I always undercoat mine with a Halfords acrylic grey primer spray can.

If you’re brush painting it I’d use Humbrol paint well thinned, it’s better to do a couple of thin coats rather than one thick one. Tamiya paints are great for spraying but dry a bit too quickly for brush painting.

Thread rises from the dead once more.

I gave up on the Albatross and bought a WingNutWings Pfalz DXII, working on it slowly so I don’t mess it up!

    The story so far….

    Stout and ginger beer.

A bottle of Crabbies ginger beer mixed with a bottle of Jamaican Dragon stout (7.5 percent!), I don’t think tonight, or the start of tomorrow, is going to end/start well. :-)

This was disappointing, I thought that the Macc Lads were making a comeback.

240v, I was going to step it down by putting a laptop charger or a PC power supply in the base. Aternatively I was just going to buy something like a generic power supply/charger from Maplins as I didn’t want 240v around where mini-spursn17 is sitting.

IanMunro; that looks like it would probably do the job, would it be hard to wire it in?

I’ve had a look in the Maplins book and can’t see any that will do a recording for a couple of minutes.

like I said before, Dartford crossing, only a couple of miles away from Gravesend. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

I’d go via Dartford, Brentwood, and Harlow, then up to Brum.

    Avoid London altogether.

iwatajim I’m going to have to try pre-shading, that 109 is a beauty (I’ve got that kit in my stash and it can stay there until I up my game). I’ve not been brave enough to try it before but I’ll give it a go after I finish the Albatros I’ve just started.

How do you get your photos so clear? Mine are always fuzzy.

Dartford Crossing, they take your bike through the tunnel in a van and drop you on the other side. You just go to the office and ask.

There has been the odd rumour floating about regarding Jose coming to Spurs for a long while now. I wouldn’t mind him as manager, but the lovely flowing footie we play would suffer.

Believe it or not, I’m not a big fan of melty face Harry. I think he relies on too many old players on loan or frees, they play great for a short while, then leave, then we’re left with a disjointed team in the future.
I wonder at some of his decisions sometimes, I don’t know why he left Lennon on the bench last week and played Kranjcar against arse, Bale was left to roam all over the place, and Ledley King is so slow he’s a liability now. And before any of you South London red shirted scum sucking dogs start, yes I am bitter and twisted with disappointment over losing to your lot :D

    Lots of useful info there.

Bikeline were great when I contacted them, the whole process went really smoothly and they kept me informed regularly. I got the impression that they were cyclists themselves.

Very happy when I got my payout.

I’ve been running GXP BB’s on 3 bikes for the last 4 years. Tighten them up to 54nm and they’re fine, easy to get cranks off for maintenance, cheap to replace, and spin freely.

Top banana as far as I’m concerned.

That 12 quid camera was good value!

    I think it’s a personal choice, I used to do it, now I don’t.

There are many occasions when driving into work that I could ignore a red, but I don’t as anyone can make a mistake and get it wrong.
It’s easier to get a bad reputation than foster a good one, how many times have you heard the non-cyclist say things like ‘all cyclists jump red lights, I saw ONE the other day go straight through’

I think bad behaviour encourages others to do the same, why not start setting an example? If one group stands out it makes the others look bad/good (like us RLJ’ing gives motorists the moral high ground).

The upside of stopping at reds is that it’s like interval training and makes you stronger

Ideally I’d like an ideal world, not gonna happen though!

Can you cycle through that underpass at Blackfriars btw?

Yes you can. On the W/B side the inside lane narrows a bit so you have to get out a bit on the down slope, but otherwise it’s fine. Thames st tunnel just after/before is great for a bit of speed as there’s no wind.

    @tin_pin-man

this is what my Police Officer chum shared with me

you may think some light are “safe to run”, you won’t realise you have caused a fatal accident at that junction, caused by your illegal action, as you are riding away when it happens

and, if you are involved in a RTA, forget any compensation if you are found RLJ, which with the spread of CCTV, is not hard to prove…

if you decide to jump some REDS and not others, you are no better than the motorists you berate..

I ride to west London with a copper sometimes. He says that it’s ok for him to jump reds as he’s a trained police driver, I said that he’s a dick.

I was stopped at a red just before Blackriars underpass when 2 idiots jumped the red, I caught them up in the Thames st tunnel and overtook them. When I got to the London bridge/King William st junction one of them was behind me and we both stopped at the red light. When we moved away a cab jumped the lights and mr RLJ’er gave the cabbie a load of abuse. I pointed out that he’d done the same a couple of minutes earlier but he just couldn’t get it.

No wonder that some motorists hate us!

I like my dogs to stay in my sight so they don’t get caught up in the bike. I taught them that a shout of ‘this way’ means a change of direction, if they get too near the bike they get a nudge on the flanks with the front tyre (they don’t like Bonty mud x’s!), and good recall makes for some good riding time.

I ran all the way over the little one (lab/staff cross) once, it was like a furry speedbump :-) She was ok though, she’s a tough little dog.

The fact it clashes with the North London derby might also be a consideration, going by your username

    Oops, forgot about that!

I’ve got no chance of a ticket though, I seem to move up the season ticket queue about a hundred places a season. Currently about 6000th

I, like many more people I suppose, have started to think about if I need to spend money on certain things.
I’ve entered the third round of the Thetford winter series, a race that I’ve got no chance of getting a decent placing in, and I’ll get the fast riders getting the hump trying to get past me and pushing me all over the place. £25 entry fee, plus fuel for 180 mile round trip (sometimes shared) for the 3rd time this winter.

    I don’t feel like entering round 4.

I make mostly 1/48 scale planes, although I do a few in 1/72. I don’t bother with anything bigger such as 1/32 as I don’t feel that I can do them justice, the smaller they are the more liberties you can get away with.
I am tempted by the Wingnut Wings WW1 range though as they get good reviews, they should do though as they cost about 60-70 quid!!!

Don’t worry about what yours look like cheez0, your (my) next one will always be better.

    That’s a really nice 109, did you pre-shade it?
I’ve not had much success doing that as I just seem to obliterate the shading.

You’d be amazed at how many of them get away with jumping in front of a tube train, I’ve seen them crawl out from underneath one with no more damage than a dirty coat!

Mind you, I’ve also seen the results when they’re successful, not nice.

BenjiM, really nice cockpits on your planes. Do you use the Eduard sets?

cheez0, I’ve done some figure painting in the past, not the Airfix ones though. I’ve done Tamiya/Italeri 1/35 and some Verlinden resin figures.
I’ve had good results using oil paints on the faces, you don’t need expensive paint, I used one of those cheap sets you get on market stalls.
Let us know how you’re getting on with your models (pics?).

Same as me, and I only complete about 3 or 4 a year!!!!
I’ve got a 1/72 U-Boat on my workbench half painted, it took me a month to cut out all 400+ flood holes.

Yes BenjiM, they’re both Tamiya 1/48th scale and were really nice to make. I don’t do competitions either as I’m too self critical.

I’m halfway through a 1/48 Trumpeter F9F Panther (early 50’s US navy jet) at the moment, that’s a nice kit as well.

I need to find some space to keep mine as they normally just get broken and thrown away, its the build I get pleasure from.
