I had an altercation with that ***t Clarkson earlier this year, that got on a lot of websites and in a couple of newspapers (and it was on here but I used a different username) 😀

This drives me nuts commuting in London! Fenchurch Street at lunchtime is really bad for it, it’s also one of the reasons that I don’t use the segregated cycleways in Queen Victoria St (between Blackfriars and Mansion House) and on Southwark bridge. I think the problem will get worse when we get the segregated cycle super highways as peds will think it’s safe to step in them as they’re not going to get hit by a car.

    Still happening for me.

It started about two weeks ago on desktop PC, laptop, and Android phone. All running Firefox. This is the only website that the fault occurs on.

    Thanks all.

Can you leave it lying around in his house so he can pick it up when he wants?

It’s left lying around the house all of the time, unfortunately due to laminate floors the scooter rolls much faster.
I’ll get him to a grassy slope on Monday.

Good call fadda. Finding the right slope around here is hard though, it’s all flat apart from some big slopes heading down to water (or roads)! I won’t be popular if he hits water as all the scars he already has has come from trips out with granddad 🙂

In my experience have it low enough for his feet to be just about flat on the floor

That’s the way I’ve tried most. He just gets fed up with it as it’s so slow, he’d rather be riding the 3 wheeled scooter like a loon!

It’s not hard to beat the tube in the central London area, suburbs are a bit harder though as the distance between stations is greater.
I do Tower Hill to Earls Court faster than the District line trains.

Work is going to be fun now with all sorts of drunken idiots trying this over the weekend, a couple of them will probably leg it down the tunnel and cause havoc!

My youngest had me in stitches watching The Great British Bake off the other night, someone was baking a german cake and he asked “are they going to use nazipan?”

He’s 20 in two weeks time and training to be a teacher, the joy truly never ends 😀

Which couple would you least like to be trapped with?

Kirsty Young and Tony Benn …. Yes please

Sally Bercow and Rupert Murdoch …. No thank you

I’d choose kirsty Young and Sally Madcow 🙂

We used to do our family shop in Tesco’s every week, now most of our shopping is done in Lidl or Aldi.

I got fed up with the ‘buy two, get one free’ offers in Tesco (which weren’t good deals, they just encourage you to buy more), I just want one item at a reasonable price!
I also get fed up with the way Tesco put display stands at the end of the aisles to slow you down so you buy more off the shelves, I want to be in and out of the shop like a commando raid, not bottlenecked and coralled so they think I’ll buy more.

Our local shop (Lakeside) went downhill when they shipped staff to the home delivery stuff and left the tills under-manned. Now we use the german shops I realise how expensive Tesco’s are.

PS; Lidl and Aldi also sell tools as well as cheap Henry Westons cider, bonus!

Try Linux Mint 16, much like window and less of a learning curve.

Mint 17 is out now and is the LTS (long term stable) release with support until 2019.

I changed to Linux Mint ages ago, and although it was hard getting away from Windows at first (think like getting used to new wife/girlfriend!) I now only use it at work and it drives me nuts! Libre Office reads MS Office files fine, but MS Office throws up all sorts of warnings when trying to open Libre Office files, I think that MS are just trying to put people off other products as I’ve not had a problem after OK’ing all of Microsoft’s warnings.

A good way to try a Linux distro with peace of mind if you’re new to it is to buy a new hard drive (get a cheap SSD one if you can) and pop it in your laptop, it’s not hard to change. Then you’ve still got your Windows drive intact to put back if you don’t get on with Linux. Have a look at some magazines as they usually have a free disc that includes Mint or Ubuntu.

This is the location for those that don’t know ‘that there Lunnun’. There is usually slow moving/a queue of traffic in the middle of the road lining up to get under Amiralty Arch. I wouldn’t think that it was reasonable to let someone out of their cab 6 feet from the kerb, and I usually overtake/filter on the nearside here with so much space available.

Thanks siwhite, that’s the sort of insight I was looking for.
Unfortunately my opinion of the Met Police sinks lower everytime I have any interaction with them. I used to be a big supporter of the police, but now after trying to get help from them a few times realise that the ‘boots’ on the ground seem to be of a very low calibre (City of London police in the ‘square mile’ are pretty good though). I know that the job has been run into the ground but surely some of them want to do a good job?

you can’t really criticise a cyclist for filtering on the left on The Mall – it’s a fast-moving dual carriageway with no lane markings – drivers tend to get over-excited about the fact they’re not stuck in a traffic jam and rag it – so moving round the outside of a taxi is fraught with risk…

    Brooess, my thoughts exactly.

My mate has now just accepted that it’s happened and moved on, he’s going to try and get the repairs paid for but is not going to let it rule his life, he said if he has to pay for it himself he will to keep enjoying cycling. He came out of it with a cut hand and no broken bones, so that’s a plus.

mattsccm, impeccable taste in music mate.

I never saw the Ramones (saw nearly everyone else in that period though) which is something that I’ll always regret. It’s so sad when people you revere start to die, I actually shed a tear when Poly Styrene died, and I’m usually a right callous b’stard! I recently saw the Rezillos and they were still great, not as good as they were, but good enough. I must get to see the Buzzcocks before Shelly pegs it.

God I’m old (but in my mind I’m still eighteen and against everything!) 🙂

PS; are the Macc Lads still playing?

b26 marauder aka “the widowmaker” (though went on to have one of the best records of any bomber of wwII)

I really like the Martin ‘Murderer’, most of them were based in Essex at some point due to their shorter range. When I’m out riding the road bike we pass by most of their bases, it seems really peaceful now and it’s hard to imagine what it was like when they were there.

Stop in the distance you can see.

You degenerate arse of a baboon. You shouldn’t need to slam on the anchors, you should be prepared for anything to be just out of sight. There could be a baby robin injured in the road.

    You ******* pleb.

Well done k57, reading that I may report the next one that tries do deal out some car based punishment.

I find the drivers in Essex generally pretty good though, much better than in Kent where they are much more aggressive.

I’ve previously been reluctant to report stuff to the police because of their being completely uninterested when I reported a TNT van driver for spitting on me, I had it all on video (including a still of the gob mid flight).
I had a nice phone call from the TNT Dutch head office, which was then handed over to the UK office who did sweet fa and couldn’t even ID the driver. Chelsea police were not interested, and the officer even lied about what she’d done about it, and I swore that I would never bother with the police again. Maybe after k57’s result I might.

I had a 1970 Plymouth Satellite a few years ago, had to get rid of it for financial reasons as it was just a toy. I was in tears when I sold it as it was the best thing I’d ever owned. My missus hated it and said whenever I drove it I reminded her of Mr Toad from Wind in the Willows as I always had a stupid grin on my face.

If you’ve got the cash buy one as you won’t regret it.
