Showed this to my brother in law who’s a locksmith just outside London, said the OP has been massively ripped off. He’d have charged £60-90 + VAT for a standard lock. Said high security British Standard locks can cost around £70 so probably about £150 all in – not that this locksmith has fitted that mind. He also said you can cancel the payment – you have a 14 day cooling off period by law.

Opening scene from Saving Private Ryan, my dad I were transfixed for the first 30mins.

Last of the Mohicans – scene where Magua gets done – the music, the aggression in DDL’s dad’s face when he see’s his other son get his throat cut etc, powerful scene!

    Bullitt car chase.

I’ve been quite lucky, I won a Kona ManoMano and holiday to the french alps including entry to an Avalanche cup race in an MBUK DH special when I was about 15-16 – ended up not going on the holiday as racing would have meant a chunky investment in protective gear to race. A couple of years later I won Spooky Metalhead in Grip magazine – still have the Spooky!

Quite keen on one of these myself. When you say it feels heavy, do you have a heavy build on it or is the frame itself pretty substantial? Are you running a coil shock? I’m currently on a carbon Troy which weight about 30lbs, it also rides pretty light.

Takes minimum effort to say hello – especially if they’re looking right at you.

Santa Cruz is no longer a niche brand – they’re the Raleigh Activator of modern times. To be fair their marketing team must be amazing.

Cyclists that don’t say hello or nod back are tossers.

Yup, horrible things. Saw one necking a Pigeon on Sauchiehall street last week.

Great place to ride! Was wondering what state the natural trails were in after the de-forestation….

How was it in terms of reliability? In terms of image I looking for a black one which is slightly more subtle than the scream orange! The question is pre or post facelift?

I’m in a similar predicament myself. Currently own a 3-door Mk5 GTI (soon to be for sale!) but the arrival of a sprog and a dog means that it’s not entirely practical. Really want an estate for the practicality but something with some performance similar to the Golf. My shortlist is currently –
    – Skoda VRS (a bit meh on the looks/performance front)
    – Focus ST (wee bit boy racer-ish – good performance)
    – A 6-cylinder 3-series (RWD not the most practical?)
    – A4 Avant (my budget would only allow me to buy an ’11/12 plate – I’m aware that some of the TFSI’s had serious issues with oil consumption)

It’s not an easy choice….the ST looks like a good option at the moment.

She hasn’t realised she made a mistake though, she has said she didn’t regret going out there. There’s no remorse from her what so ever. She’s also quoted saying that the first severed head was from an seized fighter who was an ‘enemy of Islam’…that quote basically confirms that she is still radicalised.

She was a daft wee girl when she went out but it seems now that she’s now a daft adult with the same ideals. If she came back saying she’d made a mistake and regretted everything then aye, let her back in, de-radicalise etc but she hasn’t.

I’m ready to renew the buildings/contents, currently with Pedalcover and their renewal quote was £400. Went onto a price comparison site, listed each of my bikes and the cheapest quote was from Halifax and was £190. Need to understand exactly to what extent the bikes are covered but that’s a massive saving. Anyone have any experience with Halifax?

We have a Patterdale terrier and she’s a great wee dog. They’re bred for ratting and bolting foxes so have a lot of energy. Been on a few 10 mile rides with her so far and she’s be great, she can outrun just about any other dog, even some collies have a tough time keeping up! Definitely need to be on top of the training though as they’re quite stubborn, independent wee dogs. We have a wee baby as well and she’s great with him.

It’s our first dog and would totally recommend the breed.

I cycle 7 miles into work on a single speed and pretty much ride as fast as I can, sweat quite a bit as I have a rucksack regardless of what the weather is doing. No shower in work so just give myself a good wash (baby wipes are perfect), fresh clothes and I’m OK. Despite that I’ve been pushing for a shower but it’s fallen on deaf ears so far…

Father in law just had his Speedmaster serviced – £700 from Omega, was away for about 2 months and came back like new.

I have a CC Inline coil on my Devinci Troy. Fantastic upgrade, rear end tracks a lot better and can still hop and manoeuvre the bike easily (my main concern when converting to coil)…the Troy is very progressive which definitely helps. There’s a weight penalty obviously but with the lightweight spring it’s not horrendous.

Had the same issue with my Mk4’s, bombproof and amazing grip but my duck like stance didn’t work with them. I’m using Nukeproof Sam Hills now which are fine and possibly even grippier.

I did a coaching day with Steve Jones (ex Dirt now GMBN) and Rob Breakwell (nickname was Bobby Dazzler, think he rode for the Dirt team back in the day) and they, especially Rob were very quick. Managed to get about 1/4 of a run down the Pleney with Sam Hill back when he was on an M1, was unbelievably fast!

I use it as a tool to gauge my speed and fitness, there are certain trails I ride locally where I know if I get a certain time I’m riding at an OK level. I also used to spend a lot of time sectioning trails and now tend to ride them in a oner so overall it’s brought my fitness up…..plus I’m really really competitive.

We paid about £2.5k all in but did the roof (not inc the felting), doors and electrics ourselves. Slab was already there….

Take old timber garage away – £90 (man in a van picked it up, ridiculously cheap!)

Brick layer using concrete blocks was £750 inc. labour

    Roughcasting – £550

    Roof materials – £250

    Felting – £300

    Doors – hardwood – £150

Hinges, locks, hasp etc – £120

Electrics (cheap as I’m in the industry) – £80

    Flashings – £80

If you’re willing to do some of it yourself you can save a small fortune.

Good mix of abilities in the HT categories I’ve raced in. Raced 5 rounds of the SES in 2016 and my times would typically be top 15-20 in master. You’re definitely quicker on a full sus overall (depending on terrain obviously) but the gap between the 2 isn’t as big as you might think.

I have RHA 750i’S, sound quality is superb and as mentioned the after sales support is second to none. My only minor complaint is they fall out my ears quite often…I have tiny ears though so probably not a design issue!

    2. Zealous Division Mk2- Disaster. It was great fun down the skate park and few jumps, but proper trails and singletrack it was awful. I think the wheelbase was too short so it felt scary almost.

How tall are you and what size were you riding? I’m 5’11, ride a large and my experiences are pretty much the exact opposite of what you’ve described. I raced the bike throughout the SES last year down some pretty nuts trails and battled for the overall, none of which could be done on a bike that’s terrifying on singletrack. The bike was extremely stable but also easy to manoeuvre – I’m playful rider who like to hop pretty much everything.

I must admit I have the fear cycling down Union St in Glasgow at 5pm in the dark

mmm union street is a bit mental, I used to ride it daily about 25 years ago, wouldn’t do it now. Surely Buchanan street would be a better option?

I get what you mean about the fear though, on the first dark commute home last Monday I hated going through shawlands, you soon get used to it again though.

Aye Buchanan St would be safer, was actaully contemplating the Squinty Bridge – Paisley Rd west – Shields rd then onto Kilmarnock rd from there. I feel relieved when i get to Shawlands after dealing with the city centre!

I’m still going though I must admit I have the fear cycling down Union St in Glasgow at 5pm in the dark – will need to find an alternative route I think. Only tend to ride in when I don’t need the car for meetings or if the weather isn’t too bad (office doesn’t have a shower unfortunately).

I got a Grasshopper kit about a year ago, purely for nostalgia. Like others have said it’s not the best handling RC car but with a 540 motor and cartridge bearings it’s rapid and good fun…in terms or outright speed not far off more expensive kits. Would love something similar to an Egress next though.

Thoroughly enjoyed that, it never fails to amuse – enough technicality for more experienced riders but easy enough for the less experienced guys/girls as well. Only minor complaint would be the dibing in and dibing out, lost a fair amount of time as people in front fumbled about trying to dib out – every other enduro these days is automatic.

Seriously crap chat that BoardinBob, glad the guy had the confidence to confront them though – they must’ve felt like right d!cks.

I’m on a Zealous Division MK2, great geometry and the shortest back end of any 29er. It’s very playful thanks to that, easy to manual and hop. I love it…might be hard to get a demo right enough. I’m 5’10 and weigh 155lbs.

I raced downhill from 1996-2012 to a fairly decent level at regional/national races and thought I’d never quit the sport… For me there were 2 reasons for wrapping DH, time on the bike and variation of tracks. This isn’t a slight on the SDA at all but I was bored of riding the same tracks year in, year out. That’s not to say they weren’t pro-active when it comes to obtaining new venues, I know for a fact that they did and still try to find possible new venues but for whatever reason they don’t come to fruition. In terms of actual time on the bike, I wasn’t overly keen on spending my hard earned cash on uplifts every week and was getting tired of pushing and sectioning trails. I had a trail bike which I was using a lot more and still had the urge to race so started enduro. I do miss smashing turns/jumps on the big bike though.

You’re thinking of the MK4 Funkydunc!

I have one and think they’re great cars. Mine is on 107k and still feels nice and tight. Performance is pretty decent and you can get 40mpg if you’re sensible (whoever said they managed 200miles to a tank must’ve been redlining it everywhere, or they’re lying). The R32 is a bit quicker and sounds a lot nicer but I don’t think the difference in performance is worth the extra money, standard GTI is probably better handling/more fun due to a lighter front end. All in all, its a great all-rounder.

As other have said, check for rusty wings, also any rough idling (could be clogged injectors)

Means you’re also on record, so your behaviour has got to be good should you present the video to the fuzz.

(I say this because when I cycle commuted the red mist could descend – something to keep it in check wouldn’t be a bad thing)

Yeah good point that, my behavior/language this morning left a lot to be desired tbh but the guy was at it and knew it…hence why the red mist well and truly descended.

Ah I’m not a fan of that route, too busy and cars racing to get through the next set of lights.

I work in the Gorbals and see Cathcart road as the lesser of the two evils.

Yeah, I tend to agree….A77 is definitely the most direct route for me, only other viable option is Clarkston Rd, round Queens Park then on Victoria rd which isn’t much better!

    spooky211

What’s your route by the way? I cycle into Glasgow too and when you mention the 2 lane bit it may be the same bit I ride (Cathcart Road) and its the riskiest part of my commute.

I used to cycle in down Cathcart rd, now just ride down Fenwick, Kilmarnock and Eglinton St, the incident happened just past Bridge St.

I do have a go-pro for MTB pursuits, will get a mount for my road helmet!

Fair points about the use of the Go-Pro…guess having that back-up should things go horribly wrong is very much worthwhile.

Unfortunately didn’t manage to get details off the woman, was pretty shaken up by the whole thing and wasn’t really thinking straight. Will need to be a bit more ‘on it’ with regards to getting details etc.

I almost took out a guy and his son at the bottom of the Off beat Wall at Ft Bill about 8years ago – who would’ve been in the wrong had I mowed them down at 35mph? No excuses, the lad shouldn’t have been pushing his bike up the track.
