Well, Dorset is next to Devon.

    That made me laugh.

    Good dad, in my opinion.

I live in Devon. Everyone here sounds like a pirate.

Local: Croyde (although I spend far more time longboarding at Saunton)
Favourite: Nameless beach in South Africa. Super hollow and super sharky.

Yikes! That does look tight. Think I’ll stick with the 2.1s

I’m probably gonna go with 2.25s but was just wondering how big you could go. Looking at the 2.1 that’s in there, I’m not sure I’ll actually get away with anything bigger.

I’ve always just fancied riding all 3 areas in 3 days. There’s no formal route or anything, although I could provide maps for good routes in all 3 areas (it’s my local riding). I’m sure there’s a local guide/company that offers it as a package.

If I ever get around to doing it, I’ll just drive home after each day. There’s an abundance of decent accommodation in Devon though.

I went on a gap year in my teens that ended just before my 30th birthday. Good times in mountain resorts.

If you don’t plan on working, take four times the amount of money that you think you may possibly need!

This is one of the best pieces of advice you’ll receive. It still stands true even if you do get a job. In terms of bike costs alone, my mate was a bike guide in the Alps for a while and used to go through a set of pads every day.

Thanks, Buzz. It’s a 2.1 Crossmark on the rear. I was thinking of swapping for a 2.25″ Advantage for the Autumn. Interesting advice about the wire/folding bead though. Many thanks.

    Oink, oink.

Built but never ridden as sold to pay for a cross bike.

Just stripped my full-suss and built this:

Two rear pinch-flats in two rides have yet to convince me that steel is real. Need to adjust the front end to fit too.

This one is my favourite bike. Now features a much nicer saddle. Soon to feature much lighter (and less obnoxious) sensible wheels:

I really, really liked the yellow one they did last year. Very pretty.

Pretty much. Went there a couple of years ago. Pembrokeshire is ace. Like Devon was 20 years ago.

I’m afraid I shan’t be able to make it on Wednesday after all. Sounds like it should be well represented though.

    Bon chance, mes ami.

Thinking of Wednesday evening at about 630 in the valley with the press.
    What does everyone think?

I’ll be happy to travel from North Devon if this goes ahead.

I found them impossible to fit to my Jake as there’s no brake to attach them to.

Only ridden it a couple of times but seems good so far. Off to Exmoor for a proper test-run tomorrow.

The important question here is whether Irene will bring some good surf to the Westcountry.

My son is called Barnaby. He seems to like it, although he’s only four months old so I can’t be sure.

I bought a really nice Salomon wind/showerproof from Blacks outdoors a couple of weeks ago. Reduced from £70 to £28. Not bike specific but good as an all-rounder.

Did a loop from Bovey with Carl Philips last week. One of the best evenings I’ve had on a bike in ages. I’m in.

I don’t have a video, but rode it with Carl Philips on Thursday. He can offer a cracking route that uses it.

‘I think they are Branded Kore’

Had these on my Jake the Snake. No matter what I did with them, they were terrible. Swapped for some Avid Shorty brakes which led to instant improvement. SwissStop pads made a difference too.
