I’ve snapped a rear cable whilst on the Quantocks. Obviously this was as far away from the car as we could be. Always carry a spare since. I tend to look after my bikes much better nowadays too.

Cross looks bloody daft from the sideline but makes loads of sense when you’re participating. Just give it a go.

Can anyone recommend an inflator that works with schraeder valves? I’ve got a couple but they only seem compatible with presta.

I’ll be going from Bicknoller Village shop at about 10ish on Sunday.

Willy’s or three steps as it’s also been called isn’t as steppy as it used to be imho.

I’d agree. I was there a few weeks ago and a lot of the step sections seem to have been filled in with mud.

Not sure. I’m meeting a mate from Braunton, but everyone from Plymouth seems non-commital.

I’m there on Sunday if you fancy another day of it?

Brush before = removal of bacteria that react with sugar and cause decay

Floss & rinse with Listerine afterwards = removal of oats & minty fresh

    Croyde without a doubt.

Really? I’ve just moved from there after 4 years. Finally had enough of inflated prices for everything and **** from up the line remarking on how I must have a wonderfully slow pace of life. The mountain biking is shite too (road riding is good though).

Much happier being back in Plymouth. I’ve no intention of moving anywhere. It’s not for everyone though.

we start from bicknoller village most of the time so we can finish on weacombe descent…always works for us (also from south devon!)

This. Starting at CPG always means you just finish with a slog across the ridge.

A smartphone can do all of that, surely?

I could sell you a really nice full-suss for a bit more money than that.

anyone know how to set up these shorty things properly?

they are a bugger when replacing wheels

I used a set of those barrel adjusters that go in the cable outers. That way, you can loosen them off to get the wheels in/out, then tighten them up for braking power.

Got into the video as far as the point at which he says goodbye to his son. The thought of never seeing my lad again flashed into my mind, making me feel rather nauseated.

Still, I quite fancy giving the trans-Alantic rowing race a go (certainly not as dodgy as solo-ing the Southern Ocean).

I loves me a bit of sponging when the mood strikes. I also quite likes a bit of surfing (which actually makes up about 99% of my time in the water). It’s all good.

    My tip: Don’t drop in.

Anyone know of a flat 710mm wide, 8deg backsweep alu bar which isn’t going to break the bank?

I can sell you a used Truvativ Stylo WC bar in that size with a nice matching 75mm stem for a few quid. Email me if you’re interested.

Reef Mick Fannings with bottle opener underneath. Practical and comfy, but ludicrously expensive if you don’t get an internet deal.

I’ve been quite disappointed with the longevity of mine as they’re falling to bits after 6 months use (I do wear them almost every day though).

I was chatting with my wife (specialist neuro physio) about this recently as I’m presently recovering from a back injury. She explained how the mobilisations performed by chiro are often very extreme/aggressive and often lead to long-term damage, without actually addressing the real problem (normally poor fitness and posture).

She reckons she’s witnessed some permanent and horrific back conditions/spine degeneration most likely caused by long-term chiropraction.

I’d probably give it a miss.

Sorry, olive oil is a good fat like a good quality fish oil supplement. It helps the skin and he;lps the old joints. Its fine as long as you’re not frying it as the compound breaks down and turns into a nasty fat when heated. As long as youre not downing a pint of it then its fine.

When you’re considering energy content, fat is fat (9 kcal/g)

    “Download/Memory-Map”

That was actually it. MM created it on my SD card, so I’m not sure creating another folder will matter.

Maybe I should just buy a Garmin.

Memory Map website reckons my device should find any maps stored to the SD card and offer me the classic map feature. Doesn’t recognise the V5 maps though. I’ll try this mmtracker business.

    Cheers.

    croyde, north devon.

    Lovely place.

Crap idea. Croyde isn’t for beginners, especially in September. Saunton is though. There are a couple of surf schools set up in the car park.

Lobb Fields campsite is very close to Saunton, being on the edge of Braunton (never stayed there myself though). Braunton Burrows is ace fun on a cyclocross bike. The larger dunes also work nicely with an old bodyboard.

I miss the Pina smoothy from Wild Thyme café. Be prepared to pay an obscene amount to park at the beach (one of the reasons I was motivated to leave).

How about somewhere in the South Hams, like Wembury or Bigbury?

Beautiful beaches with decent surf in the right conditions and decent coastal walks (also cracking on the bike). Dartmoor just around the corner. Plymouth for a bit of shopping, naval history and some ace mtb riding too. There’s also a very sociable road & MTB club based in Plymouth (Yogis) who’ll happily let you tag along with them.

he ran over to the boards just to touch them. Then he spent a long time hanging with the staff.

Were they mostly telling him to keep his mitts off their fragile fibreglass?

Many resteraunts and pubs are slowly offering GF alternatives on their menus

This requires a great deal of caution as a gluten-free menu doesn’t often mean a kitchen free from cross-contamination. This doesn’t matter if you’re just trying to avoid wheat-based foods, but can be a right pain for people with coeliac disease (gluten is gluten, and just a trace will usually cause problems for them).

Coeliac UK are an excellent source for recipe ideas. They also hold local forum meetings to discuss good local restaurants, shops, bread recipes, etc.

I’m moving this weekend so no racing for me. However, I’m moving back to Plymouth which has some cracking trails, so not all bad, eh?
