Although I only live in Saltash, I don’t ride on Dartmoor nearly enough. I’d be well up for some local guidance out of Bovey. Any takers?

I’ve been toying with the idea of buying one. They’re quite a bit cheaper on the Rose website: http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/tacx-exact-t3175-truing-stand/aid:527815

The CX fork will be a lot longer than your road fork, and will make a proper mess of the handling. You also won’t get a CX tyre in the rear.

My suggestion would be to strip it, sell the frame and fork, and buy a CX frameset.

My experience with dog insurance was that we would have been much better off sticking the equivalent money into a savings account.

Half an hour East of Bodmin is Saltash. Contact Certini/Specialized concept, who’ll be able to loan you a demo bike for a couple of days. Then come for a ride around the Plymouth woods, and further out onto Dartmoor.

I just bought a Cube 120 AMS 29 frame for a shade above £400, so £900 doesn’t seem too much of a bargain to me.

My other thought is that, if you’re messing about with head angle adjusters, it probably isn’t the right frame.

Here’s mine, running 2×10 and 100mm Rebas. Has dropper post and different saddle now though. Best bike I’ve ever owned.

I have one that I built up a couple of weeks ago from shed parts and a second-hand frame.

It seems okay. What was it exactly that you want to know?

Just turn it up to 11 and play it.

Not that close to Bude, but their are some new trails at Lanhydrock (next to Bodmin) that should suit well.

I’ve ridden at Swinley a couple of times before (although I understand it’s quite different from when I was last there 3 years ago), and just watched some footage of Peaslake which certainly looked fun.

I was expecting Uxbridge to be in the centre of urban hell, but perhaps it might not be too bad. I’m there on a training course for a new job, so I’ll have to see how much time I’ll have in the evenings.I reckon a couple of quick mtb evenings might be a goer though.

    Thanks everyone.

Fun XC and road is generally my thing. Couple of hours hacking around the woods would be ideal. Should I just drive to Swinley?

    Whatever happened to personal choice

I’m not sure that there’s a great deal of choice in something so addictive. In fact, I would go as far to say that the tobacco industry is very interested in limiting the choice of their customers.

As for state financial gain, the overall cost of smoking outweighs the revenue it creates by about £3.5bn per year. Unfortunately, legal precedents exist that prevent the banning of tobacco use. There are also ethical implications on halting access to a substance of which ~20% of UK adults are addicted.

Ragley Piglet. Geometry just didn’t work for me. My thoughts on it were that the angles probably worked well on the 16″, but not on the 20″, where the head angle was so slack that it felt like a chopper and just wandered all over the trail.

The bloke I sold it to reckoned it was the best bike he’d ever had.

I have to say that I’ve never owned a bike that felt as ‘right’ as my present (22″ Kona Unit 29er HT). I’m in no rush to get rid of it.

My Kona Unit came as a frame-only option and goes up to 22″, as do many Konas, despite the fact not being advertised on their website.

You’re welcome to try for size if you’re near Plymouth.

I’m bending down to far to reach the bars.

My experience of On-One frames is that the headtubes are stupidly short.

Purely how it feels to me, but my 29er seems to have a less ‘spikey’ power transfer than my old 26er (which kinda felt on-off-on-off), meaning that power transfer through the pedals feels smoother with more ‘supplese’. That then feels like the power strays on all the way through the pedal rotation.

    Does that make sense?

Increased sputum is quite normal, usually caused by regeneration of globular cells damaged by smoking, although it’s worth getting it checked if it’s a worry. Most incidences cease within about a month.

Electronic cigarettes? They seem to really help friends.

I’d steer well clear for now.The MHRA are presently scrutinising their use. I’d hang on ’til that’s completed. There’s presently no regulation regarding these products and, therefore, no way of knowing what’s in them and how effective they are. There’s also a rapidly growing number of people who are now addicted to them after trying to quit using them. My mate is a good example as he’s been ‘quitting’ with one for 16 months now.

    26″ taken from clunkers
    650b taken from touring
29er is just 700c, taken from road

Perhaps someone could actually come up with something new?

Having been disgusted by the poor quality of a piglet frame I once owned, I’d go for the Cotic.

I’ve just fitted a tyre with it and wasn’t too impressed by how much effort it seemed to need to seal small holes, so I’m gonna swap to some Stan’s.

If anyone’s thinking the same I just bought a pint of stan’s sealant from Merlin for about £11.50, which seemed like a pretty decent price.

DS9 – not nearly as pants as it first appeared.

I loved it right from the off, and thought I was the only person in the world who ever really liked it.

Not anymore they’re not. Your Kona dealer should be able to order spares directly from the distributor in Geneva. Dartmoor Cycles sorted me a hanger for my Unit within 3 days.
