one medic I know says all dietitians have an eating disorder of one form or another!

I've not. I got into dietetics as I wanted to work in healthcare and had an interest in nutrition from sport. A few people I've worked/studied with did have a history of disordered eating behaviours though.

I've been working in smoking cessation for a couple of years and am confident that having no history of smoking myself allows me to remain objective with my patients. However, one of my colleagues did smoke in the past, and is simply mindful to not let her experience influence her patients' behaviour.

As an alternative point, at least it's nice to hear that a teenager doesn't list her career aspirations as 'being famous'.

I'd go Advantage on the front and Larsen on the back.

I refuse to even look at pictures of my Pro-Flex Beast. Undoubtedly the worst bike I've ever owned (hardly ridden as it kept falling to bits).

NHS Physio is free and should be able to fix. Also, they should be able to prescribe interventions to prevent further occurence.

Before you pay any money, it's worth finding out if you can self-refer to your local NHS physio. If you can, it cuts out some of the waiting time (which are often quite short for physio outpatients anyway).

I surf a lot more than MTBing. Road riding too.

Other stuff includes snorkelling, yoga, walking the dog and bodyboarding (very rarely nowadays). I'd really like to get into windsurfing but it's just far too expensive

    Ilfracombe-Plymouth is a good coast-coast. Go via Croyde/Saunton and it's actually a coast-coast-coast.

Also, maufactured cigs have additives to help open the airways, which you've now lost.

No F**king Way!! Is that real?

Yup, although not just in tailored cigarettes. Bronchodilators are added to rolling/pipe tobacco too. Controlled breathing during the action of smoking also adds to this effect.

    Child comes onto ward and:

    sticks hand inside sharps bin
    trips patient during therapy session
    Jumps over beds/climbs over furniture
    Adjusts pump/equipment settings
    Sticks finger in patient wound

All examples I've witnessed first hand, two of which were on acute stroke units. Without wanting to sound rude, your understanding of a stroke unit is the experience of visiting a patient, so very limited.

You're right that a visiting child can be a real bonus for patients, but they can also be a proper pain (as can a lot of visiting adults actually).

Right stanchion has a rubber bung in the top with a hex bolt underneath. I unscrewed it bit there's nothing underneath.

If it's just for road and towpaths, how about a cross bike?

Azarat, haven't seen you or Snaps for ages. Are you intending to race your new bike too? I've found 50/34 compact has been ideal for North Devon road riding. Would definitely struggle up some hills on a 39 inner.

As for gearing, I'm intending on running the Jake as a road bike for most of the year, so no faff as I'll change the ring at the start of the season, then back to road set-up in December. 46 will be fine off-road, but too easy on.

On another note, is a carbon post a really bad idea on a cross bike?

I've ordered a Jake the Snake this morning, which comes set-up as 46/36. I'm just going to buy a 50t (maybe 53) ring and swap back and forth for racing/training.

    Thanks for the advice, everybody.

I'd quite like to see all cycling products to be sold tax-free, which may encourage more people to take up and enjoy cycling (benefiting us all). Tax-free helmets would definitely be a good move.

you MUST keep all of it for its entire term

They're the rules, although I can't imagine any employer ever enforcing this. Bregante is right about it having to be a complete bike, although my LBS also said they'd be happy to do a frame plus parts.

You could always buy a <£100 piece of crap and stick your frame/fork choice on top of that. I bought a road bike last year on my LBS (which I don't regret, by the way) and topped up to the grand limit with a set of Rebas.

Thinking a little differently, what about running a 53/39 and just leaving it in the inner ring for cross? Would this still leave me undergeared?

No, you'll probably crack the frame at the keyhole slot.
Thomson probably do a 27.0mm post.

I'm 6'5" and my 2008 XL Trance (100mm version) fits me bang-on for xc. Giant sizing seems a little odd. The box said 22" but I measured the seat tube c-t as 20.5".

Maybe you should try a different shop that won't ask for the deposit. Are you close to one of the Giant Concept stores?

I serviced my RP3 a while ago. Took 20mins and very easy – not worth paying £90 for someone else to do it.
