    Unless you intend to race/take it off-road, I’d give the cx bike a miss. I have one and love it but find the canti brakes terrifying at times. Gonna buy a road bike with proper calipers soon.

    CAAD-X would be my choice. I also like the look of a Cube X-Race for a grand.

    Perhaps the improving skill of the home mechanic has been forced by the incompetence of the LBS mechanic?

    I immediately wanted a Lapierre (I suspect they have that effect on a lot of people)

    My mate has been lusting after one for two years. Went out with him and his new 34 today. Ear-to-ear grins.

    I watched a weatherman tell me it’s 23 degrees and sunny in Barnstaple this morning. I looked out of the window and it wasn’t. Not really cold though.

    If you need the money, give your local sperm bank a call instead

    The donation must also be for altruistic reasons and
    clinics are not allowed pay men to be a donor, although expenses such as
    travel or loss of earnings due to time off work may be paid up to a legal
    maximum by agreement. Clinics are, however, allowed to offer fertility
    treatment services at reduced cost or even free of charge to the donor or
    couple as a consequence of his donation.

    There goes my idea of reducing the student debt.

    The cheap wheels and aluminium fork would rule out the Giant for me (and the fact they no longer import XL sizes).

    am I right in thinking the Ultegra groupset is above the 105 which is in turn above the tiagra?

    Deore = Tiagra
    SLX = 105
    XT = Ultegra
    XTR = Dura-Ace

    All 10 speed except for Tiagra (9)

    The cube is cracking value too. It seems that their prices, along with Focus’, have dropped for 2011.

    It’ll also match my team’s race-kit, which is proper factory.

    I could now get my dream bike on 0% apr, and have a few quid left over

    Which’ll probably be better for your fitness than going to the gym.

    I have a three cup cheapo from TK max and does the job just fine

    Mine did but has managed to explode twice. It’s gone to the recycling now.

    Can anyone suggest a link to a cheap, reliable, 2-cup pot?

    My Dad’s fishing mate is a farmer. Best steak I’ve had has been a lump of sirloin bought from him and cooked at home by me.

    Otherwise, various places across South Africa.

    I have no experience of the Crud, but I did have a pair of SKS and was thoroughly unimpressed. Offered only minimal protection and rubbed the paint off my frame.

    Oh wait, that happens every Saturday.

    Don’t know if they’ll be imported though.

    I’m 6’6″, so not a chance. Through the years, I’ve learned what geometry and sizing works for me. Not that many of the importers actually bother bringing XXL sizes into the UK anyway.

    I often feel the geometry on XXL frames is wrong as it’s just a copy of a 17″ frame scaled up, but that’s a whole other story.

    What do CX riders do

    Run tubulars and take about 40 sets of wheels to the race. Well, the pros do anyway.

    I think Virgin do broadband only without having to have a phone line. Otherwise, I’m very happy with 3mobile and also means no hassle when I move soon.

    The 2009 unit came with a geared dropout. Call Paligap (importers) and see if a spare from there would work.
