Your physio is right. Yoga is ace.

Your legs have to drive against something every time they push a pedal around and that thing is your core. Yoga is also fun and a good thing to do as a couple.

Sausage would be better too, although mustard wouldn’t.

Had a brilliant ride on Exmoor. It was bloody cold but that’s what clothes are for. The riding was ace as everything was frozen solid and super fast. Nice.

its well known that a double shot of espresso before traning helps you allong, just as ibuprophen does, and it’d be hard for WADA, UCI etc to ban smoking

But there are controls over the amount of caffeine athletes can have inside them.

I did it once and got really bored. Upon reflection, if I’d paid attention to my placing in the race, I’d have been far more motivated to try harder (racing for me is about achieving places over competitors).

My other advice would be to take it easy early on. I went out at full race pace and was knackered after 6 hours. Nutrition is probably the most important factor.

full length Giant mudguards that are I think designed for Giant Defys

I had some of these on my Defy. They worked well at protecting me and people behind me but have a gap at the brake mount so didn’t stop the brakes getting filthy. They also require eyelet mounts, so no good for the OP. I would imagine they’d work on a multitude of bikes that have limited clearance around the brake though.

It’s London. The World comes to you

There’s no surfing or mountain biking in London, which are both far more fun than sitting in a boozer.

It really seems to me that the World, or at least most of England, comes here between May and August, which somewhat explains the bullsh]t prices the local pubs & restaurants charge around here. I’d rather stay at home and spend my money on wax and lube.

If you slow to walking pace, you won’t be going any faster than the walker and wouldn’t be able to pass.

    Around and around we go.

Bells. They’re not required by law so you don’t have to have them. Some people find them useful, others don’t. They ding irritatingly when you’re travelling over rough ground but sometimes alert people to your presence. Sometime they don’t, and sometimes people choose to ignore them. Therefore, some people choose to use bells and some don’t. The optimum word is choice.

People. People are people, whether they’re walking, cycling, driving or hang-gliding. My personal experience of people is that they’re often rude, ignorant and selfish. Having a bell fitted to your bike may possibly alter this. It may not. People are just people.

Please, can we stop with this constant bell debate and get back to important forum posts. I really need to know what tyres to use for East Exmoor between the 15th and 21st of March this year.

Yeah. A pair of those will cost me 50 quid. I was thinking more along the lines of 3 quid for a bottle of goo.

1.97m (about 6’5″ish) and I ride a 62cm Kona Jake the Snake. Seems to fit nicely. It looks massive compared to everyone else’s bikes when I go racing though (as do I).

Plenty of people I know ride cross bikes that are a touch smaller than their road frames as they like the cross bike to be a bit more ‘chuckable’.

The missus reckons I should have left the tape in black, but I’m rather partial to coordinating tape and frame colours. Post, stem, bars and pedals were all knocking about in the shed.

There was a cracking longboard wave at my local yesterday but I decided to go riding instead. Does that answer the question? It was overhead and clean on Wednesday though, so definitely didn’t go riding then.

I like the fact that the two are so different. If I get a bit bored with one, I just put a bit more emphasis on the other. I do think that you’re almost guaranteed a good time biking, whilst there must have been hundreds of times I’ve turned up at the beach and been disappointed (always better than school/work though). Being so weather dependant does make surfing a pain, whilst biking is all about the right tyres and clothes.

There’s a bit more of a chance of getting awesomely barrelled in Billy Buds or in magazines than there is around the English coastline

You’re not looking in the right places, my friend. 😉

I used to live in Zermatt and would often pop over into Cervinia for lunch. Nice pipe there too.

Unless you’re after a cross back with the intention of racing an/or taking it off road, I’d reckon a road bike would be a better option. The versatility of CX bikes that people talk about is often really just compromise. Canti brakes are a good example of this (mud/tyre clearance at the expense of braking power).

I sold my road bike to pay for a crosser but I do miss it. Although I really enjoy riding and racing my cross bike, it doesn’t quite have the snap and sharpness of the road angles. Got a baby coming in a few weeks, but another road bike is on the cards for 2012.

If you’re after something in steel, and on a wife-controlled budget, how about a 2010 KONA HONKY TONK?

There’s a lady who’s been doing lessons for years off Saunton: http://www.walkingonwaves.co.uk/

Not sure if she’s any good though, as I don’t know anyone who’s ever had a surfing lesson. She’s a much better surfer than me though.

I live two minutes from Saunton but will be travelling to South Cornwall to spend Xmas day with my parents. Bloody typical as it’s been flat here for ages. 🙄

Still, Boxing day ride with the Plymouth lot should make up for the missed surf, and I’ll be back home (and in the water) on Monday.

B&B at the Thatch Croyde booked for the 23rd for some time now, however up til now was resigned to the fact that might not be able to make the journey from Bristol considering the weather conditions on the roads. But this post has inspired me to think twice!!

    should i risk it?

You should have no problem. All the main roads around here are totally clear.
