First post on forum in years, but the ST hive mind has always been a go-to for knowledge.

Looking at options for me, have read from start to end, but nothing really fits my needs.

Live in Shropshire in a single story converted barn in a conservation area, which may limit one roof  aspect.   But have total of 7 small’ish  roofs (6m x 3m)  two of which have small velux’s in .   There’s are three W facing and three E and one S facing (though unlikely to be able to use that one).  Basically three apex’s parallel to each other, and one at 90⁰.  All in the open, though the adjacent roofs give a bit of shade to the next early hours in winter.

We currently heat and hot water via LPG, (no mains gas ). boiler coming towards the expected end of life replacement, hot water is tank and it does have a separate electric connection though its never been used,  and a freestanding log burner for heat only.   Heating is via wet underfloor only which to use effectively has been really expensive, so tend to rely on wrapping  up and the log burner.   Only two of us, and both work similar days, and use about 3800KwH leccy a year.  All the heating and electrics are coming up to 20 years since conversion.

We need two cars, and are open to electric for these on replacement, and commutes are about 30 miles return in opposite direction, not really heavy car users, so fuel bill combined is about £200 month.

Will hopefully live long enough to see a ROI, and only see bills being tighter as things go on currently, so just planning ahead while I have some spare income.

Open to all suggestions, and problems anyone sees,  as nice to see that most would do it all over again.   And any recommended installers this way.    In no real rush, and waiting to see what the budget takes away too.

    Thanks.  Mark

I transport my dogs for work, used to use an estate car with seats folded and two big solid cages, windows down, at work I could mostly leave all windows and doors open and I was rarely more than a few yards away from them. Only real problem was sitting in slow moving queues on motorway, and the spaniel dust and hair blowing about.
Now use an ex police dog van that I had a big bit in designing the cages. Got a forced air scoop on the roof feeding direct into the cages and void above it. The cages are insulated from the sides, and stay nice and cool, a white van helps massively too. The rearmost side windows have been removed and have twin electric fans in each side feeding directly into the cages. The air con can also be switched into the rear, got temp sensors in the cages too.[working out how to add gsm pager to that] And a ventlock to leave rear door ajar. Emergency contact stickers all over the place.
Usual caveats apply, just don’t leave dogs locked in car, when its warm. I’m never far from them at work but still take a massive amount of care to ensure their welfare.

If you fancy going the whole hog, and building from a bare hull. I can put you in touch with an excellent builder.
Small family builders, built the best hulls in the past [Reeves boats] , business collapsed years ago, now father and two sons are rebuilding on one off scale, not as expensive as you would think.

That would be awesome if you make it. Don’t fret if you don’t get there though.
I assume there is only one open air car park in Albert Rd, if not its the one administered by Vehicle control services, has ticket machine you put car reg no in. Hence the £100 ticket if you can’t type!

    Many thanks

thanks mike, see what you mean, yes done that, but thanks for the info, although hopefully never need it or be too far from a vet.
Some good suggestions, some new which I really like (one in particular) , others along lines we’ve already explored.

    Keep them coming!

Quite a lot of those have already been used elsewhere, and web names taken etc.

wwaswas I take what you say, and do agree somewhat, although the my location roasts tend to be run from franchisees, and reading through food related/wedding forums most of the complaints both of high price, low product quality seem to be against franchised operators who get to use the mass market company name and then the county, so trying to avoid that. Location will come into it for SEO in any case, so my very clever web creator tells me, so a search for roast pork bedfordshire etc should pick me up [hopefully!!]
Have a good local meat supplier on board already, including the organic option for the discerning palate.

All help most greatfully received never undertaken anything like this before myself, always been the hired man.
