GT Peace cobbled together with odds and sods from the shed and the shop on its first off road ride at Whites Level.

Yeah i’ve got one, not compared it directly to the 1080 but i’ve not been worried that I don’t have the various options that i’m missing. I’ve run it at 60fps in the lower (but still much higher than my old helmet cam) resolution without concern. Did wonder if the backpack screen would be good but again i’ve managed to use it as a hand help camera without any major issues.

anybody got a pic of that Superstar Components frame that was at one of the cycle shows? I can’t find it but I’m sure it looks very similar

Nah, its getting better the less I do 🙂 it has buggered my plan to go either surfing or power kiting on tuesday though, might just float in the ocean instead

Dirty and battered yes, didn’t get very sweaty, knackered or happy though as I went over the bars and landed on my elbows, now my right arm wont go above chest height again. Kilvey Hill was covered with Riders looking for checkpoints on the MTB bit of the Swansea Burn

i’ve not looked into different springs as mine suite me fine at 12st
Best to check with Windwave for springs if you need em

If they are this years model then they don’t have air chambers, they are coil only

How long you staying there for? I’ll be in Rhossili tomorrow (surf willing). I’ll go see what GPX files i’ve got (not many for round Gower but you never know) If you get into the town centre pop in the shop (The Bike Hub , near Joes Ice Cream) for a cuppa and I’ll dig a map out

High Roller or a Minion (minion 2.35 42a one of those in a 42 super tacky)

Not found a situation it wasn’t grippy in yet, rocky, loose, muddy, dusty and a pump track 🙂

I see nothing wrong with the Octane One cranks , I’d always opt for a pinch bolt for a little extra security. I’ve used a similar “budget” crank with no issues (Gusset EXP).

Gower is indeed very nice, if your in Swansea on tuesday we can show you around Kilvey Hill near the city, its got some nice techy twisty bits and a downhill run (with some jumps, big berms and bus stops). There’s also Clyne Woods but that’s a bit more fragmented.
Are you local?

Erm….. No , clyne farm are one of the principle objectors. I have a copy of the email they sent in objecting to the trails and they seem at odds with everything. I feel that they view the woods as their own and would like to keep it as a tranquil haven for their guests at the cottage (don’t get me started on the cottage)

We charge £20 per wheel labour, spokes can be anything from 30p per spoke for Halo Plain Gauge (black or stainless) to 75p a spoke for Halo Double Butted (silver only) built with brass nipples or £15 extra for alloy (not that I’d recommend them), DT or ACi spokes start at £1.50 each.

Used hubs are fine but I would suggest new rims unless you can guarantee what usage the used ones have had.

It’s a tricky one, nearest to an I-drive that i’ve ridden is a Mongoose Teocali which I really liked. Have ridden a 5 but not a sub5 . Got any pics of either? so we can judge condition etc?
Maybe sell both frames and get something newer ? Its what iv’e been doing until I got my Rocky Mountain Slayer

spev

mmm, is the i-drive older or newer than the sub5? I think i’d keep the sub5 then get some of those eccentic shock bushes and drop the head angle ( I remember them being a bit steep)

Halo plain gauge are 25p per spoke, they come in boxes of 100 though, ask your lbs to get some for you

Try some Shimano Revoshifter, ( THESE ) I’ve always found them to have a much lighter action than gripshift which seems to suit small hands. Failing that try THESE , kids seem to get on with them better than rapidfire style shifters (depends on the age though)

How about a Devinci Hectik? Freeborn have them on offer

my mate bought one and its very nice, not sure if its a £3k bike but its a bargain at £1574 either way

I’ve been told that there are no dates this year, there is a round scheduled for NASS but nothing else. The UK looks pretty poor for dirt jump comps this year

After 20 years riding in glasses I finally succumbed to contacts. I only wear them for riding and surfing and they are superb, I use daily disposables after trying em for free from boots.
I’d recommend them to anyone ( and I have a real problem putting stuff near my eyes)

I only wish it was as simple as getting reps to visit, certain reps have promised to call but haven’t shown, one rep enquired with a competitor before contacting us (even though we’d been waiting over a week for his callback).
Some companies have been very very helpful but all have required evidence of premises and most have a minimum spend for your first order.

Does no one in NZ do the same thing in a different brand? Is it expensive because of import duties and taxes? Royal Mail say £28 for a “Small Package” by AirSure

Right the one I’ve got here has a 14mm spacer on the drive side and the hub shell is 89mm (actual shell width measured from outside edge to outside edge not including axle or spacer etc)

We’ve got a go pro 960 which we will be making available to rent once we have sorted out mounts etc.
We did plan on lending out the cable so the customer can connect to his own pc, not to worried if it doesn’t get taken much as we use it a lot ourselves
We are close enough to a trail centre to let it out for a weekends rent to locals, haven’t decided what to do yet though

I’ve got a GoPro 960 so obviously i’ll say that 🙂 but in my defence I saved money by making a chest mount using the head mount (cost about £5 and some chocolate to bribe the other half into helping me) then bought a 5.99 helmet light mount from halfords to make a multi use frame/stem mount, can do pics of it if it helps.
So don’t discount the 960 based on the mounts adding cost, bodge ’em is better 🙂

If your lbs gets em from Moore and large then they usually have one really big spacer which you can remove and replace with smaller ones to suit, I’ll have a proper look tomorrow

got my 960 from an American Ebay seller, had to pay import duty though but still saved 50 quid at the time
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320634010088#ht_1397wt_905

its gone up a bit now (and the import duty was 14 quid)
quality is fantastic though and more than good enough

Bike was built with Pike 426’s, midweight wheels and a mix of slx/xt and mid range “all mountain” kit i’m certainly not launching it off massive jumps but I don’t avoid any that I think i can ride. I certainly would’nt describe myself as a DH loony.

Brant I can send you some photos of the frame if you want

Not sure why it failed really, its cracked around the down tube immediately behind the gusset, suggesting the gusset really wasn’t doing its job 🙂

ah well i’ll see what happens, at least it gives me an excuse to build up my Marin Attack Trail
