Similar to a fork/shock, I think the seals (Whilst I accept they are cheap) suck more water in than they stopped.

The problem is I'm not keen to take it apart and service it so soon after getting it (2 weeks 2 rides)
Whilst accepting I'll need to service it im not happy that its locked solid after the second ride (it worked fine on the first one)

mmm, I figure my light downhill is a lot lighter than you realise 🙂

the local downhill (Kilvey Hill) has a couple of big jumps but i’m not going too big on them with the patriot so I think the Meta (or similar) would be a more suitable and enjoyable bike ( I also hate pushing any bike up a hill )

Rohloff is QR only (or bolt up) i’m going to use it with the Rohloff tensioner and speedbone, got some Pikes for the front. My idea is to use it for Brachfa Raven trail and the more technical stuff, also a bit of light DH (which is what I do on the Patriot 🙂 )

Oh and Druidh, you selling frame only or complete bike? If its frame only what size is it and any pics for me to peruse?

thanks all, i’d read a few of the previous threads and noted the ones that mention cracking but I guess theres a “frame is crap cos its cracked” story for every frame out there. As far as weight goes the frame weight of my Thorn Raven is near 6lb so i’m not too worried about weight (although I wouldnt want the overall weight to be too much over 32lb)
Its mainly to replace the Raven and my (much underused) DH bike (which weighs 40lb)
Waiting to see what the local shop says about price (hoping for a very good almost trade deal)

How about Corratec? The Dolomiti at 899 with 105 looks nice, different prices for dealer and online as well to encourage you to go local

do you use it for any DH or freeride-y (i hate that word) type stuff? I’ve ridden the Patriot 7 down a couple of DH courses and I feel over biked frankly

I use the cafe regularly and never have a problem, I also add up what I’m about to pay for beforehand(only because I have to count my pennies 😆 )
Forums are tricky places for humour djglover so i’ll just assume you are being funny, although sweeping generalisations based on accent or location can be offensive (and I’m not being pc about it)
I think the best way to deal with this would be to speak to the cafe owner ( Ian can be emailed) before making allegations on a forum frequented by customers and staff.

wear pads (elbow and knee) find the one jump thats still a table top (theres usually one) and just keep going at it until your over the other side, thats what I did and now I’m doing doubles and heading for the big step up jump, taken me 12 months of riding every monday (weather permitting) but I got there in the end

I usually sing Neil Diamond songs or a bit of Hot Chocolate (i’ve no idea why but they seem to suit singletrack), if my mate is riding with me we duet with him doing baratone and me doing a rubbish falsetto 🙄

doing ok but did manage to knock myself out last year and i’m quite wary of back and shoulder injuries hence my other post about armour

his english isnt so bad but he is 14 so communication is not a strong point. he was’nt aware of the differences of left and right hand drive and didnt realise that you needed specific cranks for the job. I’d say he had more money than sense but that does’nt excuse the shops shoddy handling of the repair.

Raleigh do a track wheel (fixed/free including a 16t track sprocket and lock ring) for about 60quid (thats when we had em in before christmas), ask your LBS to get one in for you, they arent bad quality but make sure you fill em with grease first ( we packed ours out before we sold them)

theres the problem, 9 times out of 10 we have contact details but on this one he didnt take the number so we havent been able to contact the guy, apart from the recriminations against the mechanic ( hes on tea duty for the rest of the year) we are not sure what to do. We use the standard Raleigh service cards and they dont say either way so we are a bit stuck. We are starting a storage charge but as we are a small shop we dont want to get arsey with our customers 🙂
