    How about one of these
    i've heard good reports
I used a P7 torch from dealextreme, but got rid as I bought the 5 mode version, i'm awaiting a new smaller 2 mode version for helmet mounting.

The hope is also quite heavy for head mounting, I had a dinotte which had a battery pack the fitted to the back of my helmet which was excellent.

I had one, the light itself is ok but it wobbled like jelly on the bars. What do you want the light for? Helmet? Commuting? Backup for night riding?

i've run mine clamped on the bars and it doesnt seem as good as helmet mounted , although i've only used it with a class2 card, waiting for my class6 card to arrive to try again, quality seems pretty good though just a little jerky at times.
Im going to fork mount it as well at some point.
As for bar mount, get hold of an old light clamp like this and drill out 2 slots wide enough for a zip tie, put the camera in its rubber case and zip it to the mount then stick it on the bars, mines worked great like this.
Just dont ride when its raining with it

Scaredypants- if its not better by monday I'm off to the docs again, i'm taking co-codamol 30/500mg (I use them for my migraines) and they help with the pain.cheers though, i'll ask when im there about other options.

christoginger- i'll give that a go, do you use a standard track pump to inflate at the start or a higher pressure device?

I've had a look at that one, I'm intrigued as to whether I can not use Slime, looking at the little bottle of JRA wheelmilk that I have it appears to be a thin solution of latex and something else(probably an antifreeze type thing and an anti coagulant to slow down the latex), i'm going to try latex, anti freeze and a shaved inner tube(for the hole blockers instead of glitter)
wont be doing it for a couple of days until I feel better though

cheers scaredypants, I was to late for the viral suppressing drug (by about 24 hours) i'm on painkillers but the rash on my side is right on the bit where I sleep and when I sit down its in the folds (I'm not fat) the burning is the worst bit as its constant. Really though its the cabin fever thats the worst

not googled yet, been awake for 4 hours and my eyes arent working yet 🙂 6 hours sleep in the last 4 days is taking its toll. Going to add it all up and see if its worth it. I take it the slime it to provide the hole filling bit?

Norco Ryde has a 22.8inch top tube
or the Kona shonky comes in a long with a 23.5 tube.
    Neither are cheap though

Rocky Mountain Cycles are about 25-30 miles away , we are about 10-15 miles from Afan and have Gower on our doorstep (and some of the best dirt jumps in the area nearby)

Ah its not a question of letting them.
For example, we had a visit from the rep of a large MTB brand saying that the other shop had dropped their bikes and would we like them, we duly said yes and ordered a significant amount, sold them and all was good. We came to order more to be told that we werent the dealer anymore and the other place had taken them back, they had a small amount in stock just to push us back out ( both the rep and the dealer were to blame in my opinion as the rep used us a leverage to get back in).
We've had a distributor blank us because the other place threatened to close their account (and they have quite a large account),and finally we had a rep call to say he would deal with us but to keep it quiet and only do small orders so as to not incur the wrath of the other mob.
There are a lot of brands that this shop "stock" according to brand websites but the address listed is'nt a shop its an unmarked warehouse on the outskirts that you can't visit.
And i'm not going to name them as I dont want to start a shop fight 🙂

I only really use it as a "where I was" device as far as cycling is concerned. I found my Etrex venture to be quite poor at getting a signal under tree cover. I'm tempted by an Edge but may just stump up for a basic Etrex H.

I'm off to a meeting with the local cycling officer regarding making our local dirt jumps more official and while I'm there I'm going to enquire as to the status of the other facilities. There is already a large patch of land allocated to the dirt jump area and i'm sure a bit could be sectioned for a pump track, i'd like an outdoor velodrome as well as I think it ties in well with BMX racing.
Will update when I get more news though.

I've just fired off a mail to the local officer so will see were that goes first.
JaceFace you local? i'll get on to Mr Thomas next I think.

cheers for the help so far

Theres the rub, the guy who coordinates the cycle facilities is frankly uninterested (he comes in to our shop and he quite friendly but not very active)
We specifically want a BMX/Skate Park thats worth riding to start with (we have a couple of half pipes scattered around but none of them have much else or much room in them- for example the fun box in Victoria Park has a run up of 15-20foot max and a run out the other side of about 30 foot to grass.)
We have a large group of skaters and bmx'ers in the area and I feel we should be giving them more facilities.
Another example would be Bryn Bach PArk in Tredegar , they have a 8 lane BMX race track there built by Jason Carpenter, its a superb facility but doesnt get anything like the use it should due to its location.Im not saying they should'nt have it but a City the size of Swansea should be boasting better facilities than we have.

As for just asking, there was a previous group called S3 who asked repeatedly but just faded away in the end due to the apathy of our local cycling officer. I hoped that maybe getting the parents of the local kids to support it then maybe the council would be more likely to listen.
I'll get in touch with the officer again and see what can be done.

Were you on an Orbit blue tandem? We saw you pull up but we'd set off before you. Hope you enjoyed it.
It's inspired me to get mine back on the go again now that my regular stoker is gaining fitness after a layoff.
post some pics when you get back.

Call me weird but the OP has a point, Afan is frequently littered with wrappers and used tubes (I usually tidy up what I find) and whilst I can't condone the condemnation or blaming of city dwellers the point is valid. If you want to continue to use the great outdoors then do your best to keep it tidy.

Mines currently got DJ2's on it but its had Judys,Pace RC37,RST Mozos and some dirt jump rigid on it. Looking for some 20mm DJ's now as i'd like the stiffer front end they provide

I've got one on my hardtail and its working fine. I will say I had some issues with it but after stripping it (email superstar for instructions) cleaning it and then fitting a gaiter to stop the crap getting in its been excellent. ITs quite heavy at over 800gms but it works with some care and attention.

Cheers Jamie I can get the 705 trade and I still cant afford it 🙂

i'll see if I can get an Etrex H trade methinks

    spev

I'd love a 705 but my bank balance doesnt seem keen. I only use half the features on my venture so I think the basic etrex would be more than enough for me.

Mines ok now that i've opened filled it with grease and put an innertube as a seal over the hex shaft. Depends on what your mate did to break the clamp. If it was a hard landing perhaps it would have been the saddle that broke with another seatpost

    spev
    Full Member

Point taken, but I figured most had guessed what it was, I do agree that the post should come with a sleeve or cover but I also think most MTB components arent really designed to work in the conditions we subject them to and we all seem to think its ok to defend them from the elements by whatever method we feel is best.
I always strip a new shimano hub and pack it full of grease even though you would expect shimano to have done it already (not always the case IME)

Anyway i'm going to give it another go, if it fails again (after I have sealed it up) then thats a different story. It's a good price for a reasonable product in comparison to the others on the market (which also have similar problems) so I feel I should give it a second chance 🙂

Well it appears he rode out of the shop, fiddled with the stop screws (no need to but he though the chain was rubbing-but he was running big-big so the chain was at an extreme angle) then when the mech wouldnt move (stop screws too far in) took an allen key to the cable clamp over tightened it snapped the screw, fitted a bodged nut and bolt and then twisted the cage trying to get it too work. Given that he was no more than a mile or so away we have no idea why he didnt come back straight away. He was rather sheepish when we finally coaxed the full story out of him 🙂

    spev
    Full Member

Yeah I thought that but I would use a shock in those condtions without a cover of some kind so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.
If it seizes again then thats a different story

as for stocking it at the shop, i'd like to but I guess most of our customers (who dont even clean their bikes before they bring them in for a service) would destroy it by looking at it. We had one guy killed a front mech in 1 hour after leaving the shop (and he killed it , it was'nt a manufacturing fault)

right i've decided to persevere and clean out the post. Its working fine now, the problem was water had run down the stanchion causing it to fill up and lock. Although I'd expect it to last a bit longer between services perhaps riding in Afan during the wettest sunday for while with no rear mudguard or protection on the post was a bit daft.
Either way I'm going to give it another go as it was very useful the week before.
I've already apologised to the company in question as I figure my stupidity does'nt give me carte blanche to openly criticise on a forum without giving them a chance to help me first.

Right im off for a cuppa and self flagellation in penance 🙂
