Did I hear them correctly say they were faster than an F1 car on the start/finish straight?
    How does that work then?

Depending on the circuit they are geared for between 180 & 195 mph. What they are about is reaching that speed as quickly as possible (acceleration/traction), holding it there for as long as possible (breaking as late as they can for a turn) and the highest speed through the turn (downforce).

An F1 car is always a compromise to get around the whole circuit as fast as they can not just outright speed. If they were not then who knows what they’d do 250-300mph???

Excellent program by the way. Did I see in the preview clips a XF and Focus banging door handles?

H, I had something similar earlier in the year (without the claim) the renewal came through stating 5 years, when queried they said that’s the maximum they use. I had gone to them 2 years previous with 9. Searched around for a lower quote anyway and found one with the AA stating 9+ years NCD. I got the broker to provide me proof in the form of a letter for the 9+ years (I had the original offer and copy of renewal from 2 years previous) and the AA accepted that.
Don’t know if you’ll be able to do something similar if you went direct, perhaps a benefit of using a broker.

Anyway do you have a bike at the mo???????

Thanks OP for that, made my morning. Never did get a Manta but had an 85 Vitesse, great fun for such a large car.

Like the comment “young David Llewellin.”

As for clasic rally car, eithr a Stratos or an 037.

I’ve used Caesar’s Cyclery in San Anselmo a couple of times, just off St. Francis Drake. Basically butts against Fairfax so you can ride Mt Tam and The Taramancho Trail right from the shop. Park in Belle Ave, no time restrictions but not by the school. China Park, a short drive is also good for a couple of hours riding.

Bikes have always been good and some excellent advice on where to ride – marking up a map.

Had something similar, unlocked my Desire from T-mobile by their supplied code so I could use it in the US. Bought a sim card out there and the phone worked OK but not the data side. It took the chap in the store an hour or so to sort it out with their tech support. Something to do with the IMEI number of the phone not registered on their systems. Don’t know if that’s the same for you.

Don’t skimp on tyres, as you have found their few square inches of rubber are all that’s keeping you attached to the road.

Personally I stick with the mainstream brands rightly or wrongly. They have been around a long time (in the case of Dunlop, inventing the things in the first place (I know some of these are sub-owned by other companies in the far east)) and have spent years/millions in R&D not just buying old moulds and processes and reproducing them cheaply with (possible) sub standard materials.

Find out what the OE fit options were and go from there, new patterns if the old ones have been discontinued.

I found after the Sync update a few weeks back I had to set everything up again, ie name the devices and all the Sync (Calendar) options. A bit of a pain but easier enough and its worked since.

Just to confirm. As I did for our daughter the best long term option is get the insurance in her name on her own car with you as a named driver. This will start building NCD from the get go. The premium will jump when she passes unfortunately.

Apply all the usual mitigation techniques. Cheap to insure car rather then the one she wants, not always obvious. Talk to a broker or play on the comparison sites. Restricted mileage, garaged, non-commute etc.

Besides vehicle tuned tyres there have been other reasons. Back in the late 80s early 90s Jaguar used special rims (odd beads) and specified tyres from Pirellie as an early attempts at run flat.

When a vehicle gets to that age it’s not about mileage – either overly high (even at average miles it would be 160K) or suspiciously low – it’s about condition. When have items been replaced due to wear (high) or corrosion (low)? Many rubber type items like seals, bushes, pipes, belts etc will corrode with age, more so in some cases when not used regularly; look for cracking, hardness and weeping on shocks etc.

Has the storage garage been dry? Long inactive periods in damp or humid conditions will induce corrosion. Check electrics; connectors and motors.

I think there’s some confusion regarding “basic”. Basic modern cars as described above are so called because of lack of “comfort features” not because of basic mechanicals. These are often as complex if not more so than larger versions to extract the most economy/power/drivability etc. from small capacity engine units.

Used to go banger racing in the mid 80’s (driving not watching) using mainly late 60’s early 70’s stuff; Rovers, Triumphs, Cortinas, Victors etc. We chose the larger cars for obvious reasons and these were the “luxury” vehicles of their day but all could be started and run on three wires. However power, reliability and especially consumption for like for like engine capacity is vastly superior these days. The internals haven’t changed (much) it’s all down to the ability to control the engine to much finer detail for fuelling etc. that enabled this. Still miss the noise of a couple of 45’s sucking air.

It is annoying when an EML comes on and after reading the fault code you replace the offending part as described (ERG in our case last week) and it doesn’t fix it. Thought we’d have to go to the dealer but decided to try the more traditional method, working through the relevant system line until the problem was fixed. Lucy may be but it was satisfying (and cheaper).

Does the full size sit proud of the boot floor? ie a bulge in the carpet. If not you’re not going to gain anything by having a sunken wheel well with no support.

Ford may do a space saver for the more sportier versions with wider/larger wheels than standard, if so there may be a different molding but that will only bring it level with the boot floor.

If you stop off in Seattle there are plenty of trails in the area; Tiger Mtn, Grandridge etc. check out http://evergreenmtb.org/home/index.php for info and help. Duthie Hill Park is a great purpose built play area (xc trails and a lot of woodwork/jumps) and will keep you occupied for a good few hours/day.

I rented a Giant Trance from the http://www.montlakebike.com/ shop in May. Helpful guys, marked up a map with some hidden stuff. Also saw Turners for demo(hire) in http://www.velocevelo.com/ Issaquah.

Most of the emissions tests should be carried out at 2500rpm (or half max if lower) for a period of 30 seconds. The engine may be preconditioned, ie warmed up at higher rpm for 3 to 5 minutes.

Some garages I’ve used have run the tests repeatedly (longer or at high rpm before commencing) to see if the car “will” pass when the readings have been marginal.

Well it wasn’t too bad after all, went down the A286 and only took an extra half hour overall, in Sainsbury’s for breakfast before 9. Coming home was a different story but that was the M25, over 2 hours from A3 to M1! Bloody road.

Lots of interesting stuff heading towards the FoS. Anyone going enjoy.

Can’t do that unfortunately, need to be in the middle of Chi as daughters doing paperwork and keys on a new house.

Was there last year on the Revival weekend and it was grid lock on the bypass. Worse for the FoS I’d assume.

    Yep they should.

Try another dealer. While in collecting mine from a service the other week a chap came in with the exact same thing. They told him to hang on a minute and one of the mechanics would be right out with their box of socket keys, match it up and order one from the code.

Had exactly the same thing, left it too late. Had to get it done down the market, why I had the E51 done rather than the Desire (£15 vs. £45)

You still have to get it unlocked, t-moble will do it for about £15. Can’t say for sure if the Desire will work but I did the same with my old E51 a couple of weeks ago (Washington state). Would be interested to know for latter in the year.

Went Saturday, the place was packed and not just nerdy blokes in anoraks, everyone stayed until the screen went blank and left in silence. My poor daughter (who was only 2 in May 1994) cried for ten minutes in the loo afterwords and welled up when talking about it. Just excellent, and I was not a Senna fan at the time.

I read today that they are expanding the distribution due to demand.

Check the vehicle info plate, on my last Passatt this included the power, may be in PS rather than BHP, along with body colour and trim etc. Might be in the door shut or on the front cross panel.

There are a number of routes in the area up and down Mt Tam. I’ve had a couple of bikes from Casar’s Cyclery [/url]in San Anselmo, talk to Josh he’ll mark up a map for you. And you can ride from the store. There’s also the Tamarancho trail just up in Fairfax, well worth a blast. Also China Camp a short drive away. Wherever you ride be prepared to go up.

Are you using the correct cable?
I bought the HTC car charger, complete with coiled cable, however this does not appear to be a data cable as the unit is not recognised by the pc. Swap to the original or other data cable and all is fine.
    Does HTC sync work?

Thurleigh is used by a number of different companies for storing vehicles. Not saying those are not scrappage cars but they could be there for a number of reasons, fleet returns, car supermarket trade-in’s etc. (friend used to work there moving them about)

The scrappage scheme was a complete waste and the reason that second had cars, especially those 4-8 years old are now expensive and short on availability.

Night and day difference between late Mk2 and early Mk3 Mondeo diesels. Had/have both; comfort, ride, handling, refinement and any other benchmark you care to name, the Mk3 wins hands down.

MK2 on an S with the 89hp Endura engine, only got 37.7mpg over the 10k miles I had it (100 miles motorway commute each day) Worst car I ever owned.
Mk3 on a Y with the 115hp Duratorq engine, so far 43.71mpg over the 48k miles I’ve had it. Same commute.
    Estates by the way.

I’d go for an early B5 Passat, 110hp if you can find one. Better than both the above on economy although service parts are generally more expensive. If the cam belt’s been changed don’t worry about mileage, sold mine with 175k, friend has a 20v with over 230K on it.

I think I just down loaded it from the Apple site, took a copy on the iTunes folder from MyMusic, removed and reinstalled and then copied my old iTunes library files back. It’s a while back now so don’t hold me to it.

Try searching the various forums, there may be a solution now. I haven’t bothered to look recently.

Which version of iTunes are you using? Had problems (not syncing, lock-up etc.) with the Classic since 9 came out, now reverted back to 8 and all’s fine.

I would describe “feel” and “modulation” as one and the same in this case. If you can feel what the brake is doing then you can easily modulate it.

    spence

Unfortunately the handbrake cable is not the easiest thing to get to, heat shields, cat, downpipes etc. especially the front section. Which from what you say with the slack may be sticking.

As for rear callipers, they’re not to difficult to get off but there are some setup/alignment procedures to follow. You don’t say if it’s an estate or hatch/saloon, they have different callipers.

Had two, a 20L 16v and a 2.5V6, I would have suggested to steer clear as the major issues were all engine electrical – sensors (crank the main culprit) and ignition packs leads etc – and expensive but being the diesel I guess they may not be the same concern.

The only other issue I had with both was front wheel bearings, not expensive or hard to do although I had to purchase a very high value torque wrench. Other than that I can’t recall any other stoppers.

Lovely cars, very comfy and full of toys – favourite was the electric rear window blind on the CDX. But I would imagine they are starting to show their age now.
