Is Heater Matrix change a big job
    ?

In general the single most awkward job possible – there are obviously exceptions, MK2 Golfs? – most manufacturers start with the heater matrix and build the car around it.

819’s just work as they are supposed to. From all the other posts on here about tubeless problems, any non UST rim is simply folly.

2 things, not Halfords and avoid places offering heavily discounted price. The price is fixed by the government, anything below the full price (£54?) is out of the garage profit, therefore they may be looking for ways to make this up. Make of that what you want.

Very well, but why would you even consider changing bearings without cleaning the hub/wheel first?

Although usually similar, arch shape/design may vary front to back so cannot be a guarantee of a difference. Left to right defiantly.

As well as above, check the spring is aligned on the strut properly. There is a notch the end of the coil should but up against to stop rotation on the base plate. If it’s on top of that it’ll be raised. Also the upper mount.

One weekend back in the late 80’s, bought one of these to get to work on the Monday as my old SD1 died for the final time on the way home Friday night. Sad, the 180 mile commute everyday did for it in the end.

You can’t tell the colour properly from the photo, VW called it Champagne Metallic but it was actually pink in the daylight! Oh, the inertia was a burgundy colour, all over! It only lasted a few months (tied equal shortest owned can with a Mk2 Mondeo TD Estate – my worst ever car) but was replaced by a lovely MK2 Golf GTi and the VW dealer gave me more as a trade-in than I paid for it.

    * There are often threads on here about the vagaries of car insurance, it’s nothing new. Mine went up for the Scirocco, a 1.6L from the V8 3.5L Rover which was modified – JanSpeed, K&Ns, Spax adjustable that the insurer knew about.

** Just noticed I called the SD1 old, my current Mondeo is now older…………………………..

Another vote for the MB-320C, probably the best I’ve used over the past 30 years.

Orange and T-Mobile are EE, just had issues getting a replacement sim for my wifes 4S.

The unlock is done remotely by Apple not via a code as with other phones.

Put 100k on a VW PD engine and just passed adding 112k onto a Ford Duratorq with no engine or transmission issues, and both had mileage on them before me – 50K & 60k respectively.

Use TNT last week to send a pair of pikes and an rp3 to Loco, cost £26 for next day delivery. Booked in the morning and collected from home in the afternoon.

Recently purchased 2 4s’s from the bay, prices seem to be around 175 – 200 for good condition carrier locked phones.

Depends on if it was self paste then use steamer or self adhesive, in which case no.

Yes it is the same platform, they used it for the Mk1/2 and Mk3 Mondeo as well as the X-type. The x-type uses a lot of common components as the Mk3, brake systems / alternator etc (I’ve just change these and come up as the same parts) so can be cheaper if bought that route. Have looked at both in the past and the Mondeo (2 wheel drive diesels) drives better and is roomier inside, both cockpit and boot space.

Done exactly this three times now, use Caeser’s Cyclery in San Anselmo each time. They do bike hire (good quality FS’s) and will provide kit if need be. From their shop you can easily get ie ride onto Mt Tam (I did the climb on the Eldridge Grade) and the Tamarncho Trail past Fairfax. If you have a car you can also get to China Camp (has marked trails). They can provide maps (Josh marked one for me with some cheeky stuff) and the necessary permits.

Couldn’t find any here but the online Turner shop have them however cheapest shipping option is $42, a little steep for a $5 order.
I e-mailed them asking for suggestions on availability here or the specs so I could go the engineering route. Got a replay from David Turner himself, saying just put a note on the order and they’ll sort out cheaper shipping. Did just that, so for a $10 order (added a new badge) shipping from the States of $8. Again, a result dealing with Turner direct after previous help from Greg.

If you haven’t seen it, this is part of an article about MOT fails on PistonHeads this morning.

Still to come are requirements to fail a car on a lit engine management light and also to fail diesels if a factory-fitted particulate filter has been removed. This comes into force next month and might scupper anyone who’s had theirs whipped out by any of the companies offering removal service and ECU reflash. However you might get away with it if the job’s a clean one. A spokesman for the DVSA told us that rather than check via computer whether the car was fitted with a DPF it’s “a visual inspection of the exhaust system”.

Exactly the same position as MartynS, haven’t seen anything I’d want to swap it for.

Have a 29er HT as well, the 5Spot’s still quicker and a better ride around my local loop.

Have always had very good delivery times, until last week. Ordered an instock item 10am Monday, arrived 4:50pm Friday. Chasing it up apparently Parcel Force issues in MK. No surprise there then.

Slight tangent. Probably a daft question but on a FWD car can you get away with just a pair up front? Just thinking that I could keep 2 cars moving for the price of 4 tyres. I know it’ll offer less grip on the lightly weighted end and possible induce oversteer more readily but if driven sensible surly it’ll help with just getting traction.

Did this a couple of years back.

Duthie Park is a pretty good place, but very compact. It has a lot of trails all looping out from a central hub (car park) a mixture of fast circuits with some big stuff (jumps, woodwork etc) but chicken runs around all. Think Woburn or Chicksands on steroids. I parked off the I90 and rode up and over the Grand Ridge to get to the park, made more of day ride out.

Picked up a rental Giant Trance from http://www.montlakebike.com/ it’s about a 30 minute drive but was on my way but there are a lot of other places. As mentioned I found the Evergreen Alliance useful, lots of help and offers to come ride.

Don’t buy them, false economy in the long run when they leak and clog up the printer.

Hard to tell really, but assuming the large pipe is going to the top of the radiator then yes that is most likely to be the thermostat housing.

Also switched to Amex last month, again under written by Axa. All bikes specified (~ £9k total)and electricals (iPhone etc.) for about half what M&S wanted.

I use a T-Mobile Pay by The Day nano sim when out there, unlimited Talk, Text and Data (4G) for $3 a day. Get a sim from any t-mobile shop or both in a mall.

No more M&S. Tried a few of the suggestions above and went with Amex (been a member for 25 years and had their cover previously), all bikes have to be specified, so 4 at just under £9k plus iPhone and a couple of laptops covered @ £256 for the year. Cover is sufficient and the underwriter is Axa, same as M&S and Home Protect.

Iain, yes the lady this morning was very helpful, knew what I was gonna ask before I said anything about bikes. I guess they’re getting it a lot. Because I’m like you, renewing the policy it has a £2k limit whereas new polices only have a £1k limit. I can increase the excess to £200 (but what’s the point of insurance if you have to pay half (well not half but you get the point)) and that will make it an £8pa increase on last years policy, I can live with that.
What she could not do was swap to the Standard cover and leave the £2k limit, it would be a new policy rather than a transfer. Also there’s a discount applied to on-line.

Just doing this, renewal (M&S Premium cover with £2k limit, £100 excess) £315. Add one bike @ £4k goes up to £371. Online quote for Standard cover as they cannot cross quote on the phone, so limit is now £1k. 3 bikes (£4k,£2k,£1.2k) comes in at £872!!!

No problem at all. I try to by these anyway as the extra length was needed for 317/717 type rims.

Miles I guess but not many rally, 25k pa. Diesel Mondeo estate, heavyish and late on the brakes I guess. But at £60 – probably similar to the s-max – a time not worth the effort to clean up old discs and very easy to change. Track days tend to boil the 997’s but recover, discs have lasted well.

Corrosion around the edge (where the vets are if vented) is fairly normal and can be easily cleaned up with a wire brush and some time. Corrosion or pitting on the braking surface isn’t and can be an indication of other problems – ill fitting pads, stuck piston/slider etc.

I use Mintex pads and discs, they are cheap enough to change both at the same time every 12 to 18 months and seem to offer good performance for the money.

Been using them for a dozen or so years with no problems. They were the only one to give good coverage at home – no hanging out the upstairs window as with all the others at the time. Never had an issue out and about, they can piggy back off Orange if necessary. The few times I’ve need to call them the customer service has been good, most recently with unlocking an i5 when I had a call back making sure all had gone through OK. Also have a US account when traveling there.

Same here, right handed with left eye dominance – reasoning as MrSmith, but mother not school. Persevere with both eyes open as much as possible and learn to judge lead. Easy enough for reaction shots such as incoming, going away and teal. Quartering is a bit harder and maybe I shut my left eye on long crossers. As said practice with whatever works for you, there’s no wrong way if you’re hitting the target.
