Why is ‘e-bike’ insurance different to bike insurance?
Curious due to forthcoming acquisition.
spenceFree MemberSounds like Mail Order, like you used to get in the back of the Sunday papers for plates with the picture of the queen on. If so, then cv2 is not needed as AVS details (house number & numbers from your PC will be used) and the transaction will be one time CNP key entry on their POS.
If they are going to put your credentials on file for future merchant initiated transactions (instalments), then that needs to be stated and agreed by you.
spenceFree MemberThere’s always a main dealer mark up. But sometimes they’re the only option. For my wife’s Hyundai (Kia) none of the ECP listed front discs fitted, all from Eicher to Brembo the hat internal depth was a couple of mm out so butted up against the calliper bracket. OEM for the local Hyundai dealer at twice the Brembo price, fitted perfectly!
spenceFree MemberYou know if you’ve got one, there’s a definite discomfort/pain.
Not always, no pain here, I can push the thing back in, wouldn’t even call it a discomfort tbh.
Well you’re very lucky. Had a lot of pain and discomfort. Had the op in April, went back saying it didn’t feel right, was told that it’s just the healing process. It got worse! Went bak last week and now booked in for a repair at the end of the month. Marked down as a recurrent, but basically the repair failed. Cancelling this weekends BPW trip.
spenceFree MemberYou know if you’ve got one, there’s a definite discomfort/pain. A truss can help prevent further damage when exerting.
Had an op in April for bilateral inguinal hernias, never felt right on one side after, now booked in for a repair op end of the month on the recurrent. Be careful.spenceFree MemberBeen knocking about for a few years now, somehow doubt it’ll come off. Hope it does as I can seen where I park my car at work in the arial photo.
spenceFree MemberBlimey! Mudeford beach huts. Haven stayed in one of those since the mid 70’s. They were expensive then.
spenceFree MemberA couple of different friends had this moving into new builds, you know where they’re still building the neighbours. First just waited it out, had unlimited mobile and good connection. The other spent an awful lot of effort chasing BT/Openreach including the email to the chairman (have the address assuming it’s still Gavin Patterson if you need it) thing. In the end they got connected, both approaches took about the same amount of time.
spenceFree MemberMine too so would like to know. Same age and spec with 1TB HDD but running Big Sur . Bought a SSD but been forbidden in opening it up incase it won’t work afterwards!
One thing that did seem to speed up loading a very small amount was removing Chrome.
spenceFree MemberDiagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernia beginning of September, saw a private consultant via Axa through work. Explained he’d do both sides at once patching on the inside. However with all that’s going on and NHS requisitioning theatre time, no timeframe given other than I’m now in the ‘system’. Will chase up in the new year.
Some of the recovery stories above a little concerning.spenceFree MemberBlimey! I can see my work building on the map in the Chronicle article. Chances are probably slim unfortunately.
spenceFree MemberHow odd. Exact same set up as the OP and exact same problem. And it’s always been that way!
MX80 fitted when the bike was one ride old, other then the drop from 2nd to 3rd all others are perfect both up and down. I guess it’s something to do with the alloy to steel sprocket/one spider to the next change.
spenceFree MemberI been through exactly this, twice. Mine was a 2005 HL 5 Spot. About 6 years ago I did the revive thing; powder coated the frame, 2×10 XT, shorter stem, wider bars and rims etc. Being fundamental a great bike I got another five good years out of it.
But. The beginning of this year it was back at the stage where stuff needed replacing again. This time I went for a new bike – Stumpjumper 29er – e-bay’d the spot.
Still miss it.spenceFree MemberAddiktion on Victoria St were very good when I worked in the area. Built wheels for me and various service items. Not been in for about 5 years so can’t vouch for current state.
spenceFree MemberThanks for the replies. I’ll have a looks at the suggestions.
The shop supposedly cleaned and greased all the pivot points. The noise (knock/click) can be replicated with the bike stationary with little or no movement of other components. Doesn’t mean it’s not them thou.I’m still skeptical on their statement about all shocks knocking as they move!
spenceFree MemberFirst ride on mine (29″ Comp) last Sunday, quick blast around Woburn. Very impressed so far, still needs dialing in as just running Specialized suggested pressures. Gonna take some getting used to after my 5-Spot for the past fifteen years, first trip of the year to BPW next week. Should be fun/different.
spenceFree MemberThanks for the input. Not heard of Paisley Freight, look simple enough from their website.
spenceFree MemberDuly noted. Thanks
Not bought a whole bike for 20 years. Had shock pumps with forks before and one with a frame but that was an S works back in 2004! I guess business models change. Some online offerings are listing inclusions.
spenceFree MemberFlown over a two dozen times LHR to SFO with BA, flight arrives late afternoon or early evening. No problems with the flight or luggage. It is what it is, cheap mass transportation over a long distance. Beer/wine, watch a few movies. Car hire from the airport if going down to San Jose/Freemont or BART into the city $7-11$. Take a day up in Marin County, hire a bike a ride the Tamarancho.
spenceFree MemberHad one of these when I was 20, same colour but with the chrome wheels. Had to go unfortunately to be replaced by a mortgage.
John Steed had one
and they raced!
spenceFree MemberJust do it!
Today, for the first time in 14 years I road a trail center with a tubed rear wheel due to circumstances conspiring against me – dicky freewheel – and had a nightmare. The stats speak for themselves, too numerous to count visits tubeless, zero deflations. One day at CyB with a tube and went through 4 of them.
spenceFree MemberInteresting thread. Owner of a HL 5Spot, spoken to Dave a few times over the years and found him and Greg very helpful – sent me some zerks foc once. I bought a full rebuild kit a year or so after buying the bike just in case, didn’t use it of eight years and then only cause I had the frame resprayed. Hope to keep the bike going as long as possible, can’t afford anything of the same standard now.
Not heard of Igus, just looked them up and they’re on the same trading estate as me!
spenceFree MemberTyre-shopper.co.uk have been cheapest recently, fitted at local National Tyres.
Been using Goodyear F1s for the last couple of changes.
spenceFree MemberTorrey Canyon.
Collected news paper clippings for my scrap book, along with those for Sir Francis Chichester, Apollo 1 etc. Do kids still do that??
spenceFree MemberTwo teams of four. First time for all of us, Clueless as to what it’ll be like but it seemed like a good idea in the curry house last Christma.
spenceFree MemberNo experience of online but by comparison, SpecSavers quoted me £39 last week when I enquirered.
spenceFree MemberNot the same thing but may be related. About 2 weeks ago I had a text overnight from EE saying they had changed the address on my account as per my instruction. I hadn’t! Tried to login to my account, both web page and phone app and the password had been changed. Called them and long time on the phone giving many confirmation details, some going back many years (customer 10+ years) ie when and where I’ve made changes, renewals etc. they got everything sorted.
The address was a London one.Prompted a lot of new passwords on multiple login accounts.
Their security/verification may not be the best and along with recent price hikes – wife’s payg doubled for data! She changed to Tesco. – don’t think I’ll be a customer for much longer.
spenceFree MemberHaven’t got the copy of issue one anymore, unfortunately. But am looking at a letter from Tharg that accompanied the original Star Wars soundtrack LP I won in their competition a long time ago.
spenceFree Membergrtdkad get a proper 4 wheel alignment done, not just the tracking, the rear of the car influences the thrust angle and hence how the front wheels are pushed along. The suspension set up is very adjustable (rears more so) and needs a good technician. When I had 4 tyres fitted by National Tyre a few months back, I asked them to check the alignment they said they’d rather not as their equipment wasn’t up to the job.
It may well be that the bushes have gone on one of the lower control arms, probably the inner on the wishbone or the “banana’ arm, a common problem. Do you get a clunk on breaking? Have someone stand to the side of the car and watch the front wheel as you drive up and break, if the wheel moves backwards then the bushes have probably gone. If this is the case it will also cause the wear as the wheels will splay outwards as you drive along.

Lovely cars. But they have their quirks, I got a parking brake error come up this morning driving back from two days riding in the snowy peaks! Off to the indy tomorrow.spenceFree MemberYep, very slushy on the lower slopes. A little bit of drifting at the top of the Roman Road etc. Starting to freeze now.
spenceFree MemberI’m 6’1″ and swapped from an 18″ to 20″ earlier in the year when I found a crack in the 18″ (it was neary 15 years old). I just swapped everything over so the only difference was the frame but with the head tube a little longer I had to lose a couple of spacers.
First ride it felt a bigger and more akin to my 29er; the 18″ was always very flickable through the woods in comparison to the 29er eg at Woburn & Chicky and the 20″ is no different. At 6’1″ I was at the very top of the suggested height for an 18″ and felt a bit like a pimple in retrospect.
But at the money the 20″ is just about perfect, off out on it now.
spenceFree MemberSimilar situation a couple of weeks ago with my daughters car, hit by a foreign lorry (a little more damage than you describe) and deemed a write off. Older car, ’04 206 but in excellent condition fully (stamped up) service book inc. belt change last time, lowish miles @ < 60K and a 2 day old full exhaust. I was expecting a very low offer so had researched (Autotrader) the price we’d have to pay to replace as close as like for like as I could find. Very surprised that their first offer was bang in the middle of what I had found.
Only problem now is chasing the Albanian insurance for the excess she had to pay through the legal cover.spenceFree MemberGreat stuff.
Had a good chat with Joe at the MB Hall of Fame after a quick spin around Tamarancho, a very nice guy.spenceFree MemberA few years back I had one that clamped to the crank arm. Possibly from Atera. Didn’t seem any less stable than the down tube clamp ones and was the only way for some of the designs at the time, Marin’s!!! Did started to get issues as crank arms design changed, OK for old style squarish arms such as the Raceface Turbines of the time but as the fatter HT2 types came in the jaws on the clamp started to struggle to get a good secure purchase.
Don’t know if something similar exists today.spenceFree Memberjambalaya. Thanks that’s helpful, I had considered a Mini but the sleek all in one has won my wife over, less clutter apparently, whatever clutter is! Yes, may look into the Tv/Airport down the line.
geetee. Again thanks, yes the graphics card is different and I hadn’t consider the customisation side, more just walk in walk out of the Apple store / John Lewis.
But here’s the thing. Your analogy to a dropper post, I still don’t really get them. Yes I finally got round to putting one on my Turner but very rarely use it, forget it’s there most of the time. Even at BPW and Afan the other week. Luddite I know. So missing something you haven’t had, where what you’ve now got is better than you had previously?????? Sounds like I’m talking myself into a decision. Thanks captain.
spenceFree MemberThanks all. Wasn’t too concerned about the actual screen size, the 21.5 is a couple of inches over the current PC and the 27 would be bigger than the TV downstairs! Thought was, is the processor increas + expandable memory option worth the extra cash, would the topend 21.5 good enough.
Usage? Will now mainly be iTunes, photo storage, browsing and home based Office stuff along with perhaps a little map work (Basecamp probably).spenceFree MemberAgree with others, check the pipes from my experience of the same symptoms on a Mondeo. There are other possibilities; actuators, sensors etc.
A “blow” turbo would involve an awful lot of smoke – seals/bearings giving up the ghost.spenceFree MemberThat will be the pads sticking on the disks – flash rust, Google it – unlikely to be the calipers, just leaving the car overnight after washing it can cause similar symptoms.
spenceFree MemberJust want to say thanks again to pickle for the heads-up.
Quick spin out today and all seems good.
They appear to be a great budget choice and will give me a breather to rebuild the Pro2’s onto new rims. I’ve had Raleigh Pro Build wheelset in the past – 317’s on Hope XC’s from Halfords of all places – and they lasted a good while. The Alex rims, I’ve got on my Trek road bike and they’ve been OK. The only question mark will be the hubs, a bit of bumble bee buzz rather than the Hope clikity. A bell perhaps. So next question will be a recommendation for rims and a spoke calculator.
