spares availability of hope parts are for a reason

Yes to keep a product in good working order over years of service, like any other decent respectable company regardless of industry!

Would you buy a car with no spares availability?

Personally I’d put Shimano brakes alongside Tektro.
But comparing Shimano to Hope’s! They’re a totally different class. The Hope’s make a mockery of the Shimano units.

As said before any brake will lock a wheel up but that’s irrelevant it’s about the delivery, adjustability, serviceability, reliability, spares availability……….
And the Hope sets win hands down plain to see.

If your budget doesn’t allow for proper brakes then fine,
Shimano offer a cheap alternative but somehow have managed to take the old adage “buy shite, buy twice” as a positive. :D

Cracking job! Really nice, apart from replacing the grips every week I’d love to roll that!

I’ve only recently gone above 685mm bars but I’ve been building my bikes with short ?50mm stems since I could afford decent bikes about 15years ago, I don’t see how long stems have made it out the 90`s….

short/wide is good for average skill riders too doing varied terrain rather than gnarrr DHers. He’s basically describing me and I agree with him – control gets easier and confidence goes up. What’s not to like?

    +1

    50/740 is where its at.

You mentioned Blue Pig ..the Piglet/Marley are 44mm too 140mm forks would suit well.

What interests me is that, other than On-One with the 456, they seem to be the only bike company that I’m aware of, that has produced a bike that changes the length of the chainstays to match the frame size

The lowly Ghost brand do this… I’m sure many others too.

If you don’t mind an orange one maybe take a look at the ex-RAC T5’s and fit your own interior ..The RAC spec van has some nice extras ….Electric windows, air con, tailgate, uprated springs and a split-charge system and generally will have had no expense spared when it comes to servicing.

For quite a while now this building site has been a nice little shortcut on my rides to and from work….
Took these on my way back tonight.

I’ve not been following these threads long, but have we had “tenuous links” relating bike make model etc to pictured surroundings ?

Perhaps ahwiles to save the posts getting very silly you could post up your state of the art innovative fully suspended ground breaking bike?
So everyone can see the comparisons with a humble Orange Five.

here’s a prototype i knocked up a few years ago:

Hey Isambard Kingdom Brunel want his bridge back…..

a defender may be a great off-roader, you can buy a new one for what? £30k?

how much is a new range-rover with all the toys? £70k?

So which superior bike have you in mind which costs less than half the price of the 5 ?

it’s the rover 75 of the bike world.

At a time when the rest of the world were doing thing like this:

    rover did this:

which is a depressing look backwards, conforming to the idea that everything in Britain is old fashioned, made of oak, and belongs in a museum.

while the rest of the world is capable of looking forward, and trying new things, we’re still hand making (filing) cabinets.

What a **** analogy ! In what way does a decent MTB relate to a hatchback with reliability issues…?

Are Defenders still shit off road ???

So if I understand correctly he’s putting the poison on his side of the fence and making sure some spills through onto your side?…

What I would do would be build a temporary secondary fence/barricade ,it looks as though the fence sits on a Wall if there is a similar ledge on your side run a line of bricks along it thus blocking off his little poison glory hole and also keeping the rabbits and kids safe.
If he really wanted to get poison into your garden he would need to try a lot harder and as such would be less passable as an accident when/if the police are involved.

If he resorts to throwing it over then’s the time I’d go round and make him pick the shit up!

I’m pretty sure you can. If not with a bit of fettling make them work…the chassis of the shifters is quite similar accross the range .

Although I’ve not actually tried it with SLX I currently run an old LX shifter on a matchmaker.

Being an AUX input you will be able to connect any audio device with a headphone/audio out regardless of brand.. ..most Head units have audio inputs.
Funny how to iPod/phone owners that connecting their devices to an amplifier seems like such an achievement.. Lol.

Assuming the bolt is stuck in there due to a rounded Head? Try undoing the bolt with a similar sized torx bit maybe inserted with the help of a hammer. If the thread is seized give it a dose of plus-gas and try again.

If you do have to drill, with the bolt being obviously much tougher than the surrounding stem body the drill will likely wander and I suspect you will need to re-tap the hole at a larger size if you want to re-use the stem.

VW Type 166 “schwimmwagen” pre dates these and is the most mass produced amphibious car to date.

Watch how they move when you pull the lever, Does one pad hit the disc before the other? If so, as I said up there.
if in doubt pads out pump pistons out rub a bit of brake fluid around pistons/seals push them in n out a couple times then pads back in check centering .

It’ll likely be alignment as nige up there has said.. Also make sure both pistols move equally meeting the disc centrally in the caliper. If one pad is moving further than the other hold it back whilst actuating the brake to level them out.

I use a straightline silent guide ( top and bottom slides ) on my 1×9 bike which goes cross country….
gear shifts remain smooth as without a guide and doesn’t rattle like some roller guides and it’s never dropped or trapped a chain.

FYI, your not limited to ISCG designs as you can get adaptor mounts for under a tenner.

It may not be the most desireable brand but… I’d say a Mega TR would fit the bill nicely…

The 3Finger bridge is a nice touch..and you might be glad the mech hanger is replaceble too..

Reducer is a bad name for it really….

actually bulks up a 1″1/8th steerer to 1.5″ so you can fit a 1.5″ crown race.

I’ve been using the Ragley natural for a while now. had doubts about it when I first got it but quickly found it to be the most comfortable saddle I’ve ever used. I ride a HT by the way.
