What should a Scotsman do if he finds a trumpet growing in his vegetable patch?

    Root it oot!

I’ve done Llandegla Inc the freeride section and a weekend at Antur Stiniog on my Stooge.
The Stooge is however 29+ and way more capable than it appears the front end is high and easily unweighted riding style needs to alter but I found I could ride very rough sections and suffer less arm pump than on a suss bike.
Stooge is a very different beast to a whippet though I’m not sure I’d fancy stiniog on one of those.

New tyre time …Just checking out these Goma TNT’s from Vittoria
This is a 29×2.4 on a Dually in a MK1 frame, comes up LARGE slighlty bigger than the Chunky Monkey that was on previous going to have to swap for the 2.25 I reckon.

I have a mate with rather large ears ……he’s known as Jodrell.
He also thinks he’s a big hit with ladies and has proclaimed himself as a “God of love” since then he is also known as Earos

    A couple I think …

Only one I recall went something like..
After usual opening Q’s turned to ” how many days did you take off in your last job, did you take all holidays and how many times were you off sick?” After my replies, I imagine I wasn’t sure of the exact figures the interviewer proceeded to tell me he’d never taken a day off “not even for family time ” “I’ve never been sick” and so on .
(There are many things I value over religiously 9-5ing and this guy was obviously a complete dick)
I looked him in the eye said something like ” I feel sorry for kids” as I got up and left .

Can’t fault the Tech 3 E4. Excellent lever ergonomics and adjustment, tons of modulation allied to a lot of power. Dead easy to bleed. Pads last ages!

Yep echoes my opinion completely. I’ve been impressed by the guides I’ve lately but the Hopes are always the choice where my money’s concerned.

It’s not just the tyres Rover, a lot of the + feel is attributed to the wider rims. even a regular size tyre feels better at lower pressures. A plus size rim allows the tyre to fill out in a more square profile reducing the rolling effect of the balloon profile you’d have on regular rims.

Depends on the model really. Anything lower than the 5s I’d bin.
Sorted a mate’s 5s out and they are a pretty nice feeling brake, much better feel than you get with shimanos.
But yeah if you can live with the cheapy plastic shimano levers n get used to that weird on off feel they have and are also prepared to scrap them at first sign of them playing up them the Shimanos are ok for the ££.

    Maybe try SRAM guides instead.

Yeah. As spectabilis says. modern 3″ tyres are to allow slow old men with too much money and no real riding ability to ride their overpriced rigid shitehawks over uneven surfaces without ever needing to stand up or weight shift to aid grip.

    You’re gay you are.

The new breed of 3″/+ tyre setups are not really comparable to the likes of Gazzos, they’re probably half the weight for a start.

It features and adjustable hight fuel tray and rotating stainless grill.

Spectabilis…looks like a Dually on the back, what tyre are you running…?
Any chance you could take a measurement across the width…?

Tyre is worn now but comes up about 62mm across the nobbles

    cokie – Member

Cokie , what chain are you running there ?

    spectabilis

Yeah Dually wrapped in an O.O Chunky Monkey so basically if you measure the space between the stays then minus 2x knats bollock hairs then you’ll have the width..

You’re looking at US prices Frame only is £2650 with DB inline, on the Ibis site, although I paid a fair chunk less as most would have done.

UK does not have frame and shock option, only frame only and full builds. But you’re looking at the pike price in USD.

Doh ! missed that … cheers Robert

Frame only £2900 with Pike RCT3 “upgrade” £3890 ? £990 for a Pike? thats offensive.

Has the lockring bottomed out on the axle end cap? You need an xd specific end cap for the drive side or get to file out….

If the stem is done up tight enough the headset shouldn’t work loose .

As for making it more comfortable you need to unweight the front , add some more spacers/riser bars , try some some bars with more back sweep . Salsa bend2 or on one OG’s something like that . Fit some ESI grips and ease up on your grip allow the bike to move around beneath you.

My rigid is 29+ so has a bit more cush going on and it’s def the opposite of shit on everything from pub rides to stiniog.

I have found recently I tend to get more arm pump on long descents on suss bike than I do on the rigid ….. It’s a different type of riding style.

Much the same as RS’s but with a nicer feel at the lever plus bite point adjust although strangely the last pair I setup seemed to offer more adjustment on one lever than the other? Could of been down to the bleed.
I’d take Guides over Shimano anyday.

I’d be prepared to bleed if I was you ( definitely more susceptible to air ingress than Shimanos)
Bleeding is a breeze on them though, no special tools/syringes required.

If I had to pick I’d go AS its rough and coming off probably hurts more plenty of jagged rocks on a pinch flat mission but eff me it’s fun!
The uplift gets you back up as soon as you hit the bottom as many runs as you could hope for.
I cracked my ribs first day and was weary of doing the second day especially as I was on a rigid bike, but soon as I hit the first run I was having a blast n forgot about the pain an excellent weekend it was.

BPW shortly after just didn’t give me the same feeling trails felt really short n over to soon.

used them on a Stanton Switchback build recently had a quick spin on it , felt very comfy but it was also fitted with ESI grips so not sure how much of the feel could be contributed to the squirt of foam in the middle of the bars? Great bars nonetheless….

    Some great bikes here !

I read one mention of a Bigwig which reminded me a mate of mine was making some noises the other day about selling or breaking his for a another full suss build… PM me if your interested, it’s a nice build manitou fork, Hope/Stan’s, dropper, SLX 2×10…….

I use a knife and just knick them flush to the fastener then twist. They tear off nice and smooth with less chance of cutting through into hoses, paint, fingers etc.
