I was born and lived there for my formative years. I moved to Cumbria in 1975. I have never been back.

Hi Rich, sorry to hear you're stuggling a bit on the road bike. Pat had some problems and went to http://www.bodyrehab.co.uk near Wheelbase in Staveley. She rated them as they looked at her position on the bike and gave some very good advice.
I also get burning pains betweeen the shoulder blades, relaxing seems to help, as does slightly altering body position whilst riding. Interestingly, I have no such problems on my TT bike, in time trials up to 100 miles.

Silecroft has a lovely beach, and is at the foot of Black Coombe, so you could escape for a ride up the Coombe!

I had the same problem. Schwalbe have a defective tyre recall notification on their website. Evidently you should, on no account, use the tyre.

Still waiting for my replacement/s from Schwalbe

I have a 2003 element Tsc, my problems are the opposite, the bushes wear out quickly, as do the bearings. I’ve replaced the bushes 3 times and the bearings once. An expensive business as the top hat bushes are £28 a set, and with bearings and new screws, close on £100.

I live and ride in the lakes which may explain the rapid wear. I was told to lube the bushes with silicon grease.

RudeBoy, you say “The vast majority of people live in cities, and most will never go to the countryside areas near nuclear power stations anyway, so for the vast majority of people, it’s all right for them to be built in remote areas.”

Kirksanton is on the edge of The Lake District National Park, tourism is very important to this area, we have lots of visitors from cities all year long, we don’t need a nuclear power sation sited here when there is a perfectly adequate site at an already spoiled Sellafield.

Surely, the siting of a nuclear power station at Kirksanton would kill completely the tourist industry in this beautiful corner of Cumbria.

I live in the village at the bottom of Black Combe. I’m glad you enjoyed the ride, I wonder if your enjoyment would have been marred if there was a nuclear power station in view all the way back down? I notice the wind farm at Haverigg airfield pictured in some of your snaps, that’s the proposed site of a new nuclear power plant.

I live 2 fields away from the proposed site at Kirksanton. I would rather it be built in Hyde Park.

    Switch something off NOW!

Like you Ton, I couldn’t face that fire road climb again, I pulled out too. In fact, it was the first event I have ever pulled out of, I’m 55 and have done quite a few, but that was a challenge too far!

Congratulations to all finishers, you deserve a medal!

Woodall’s of Waberthwaite do “real” bacon. They also cure some wonderful hams and make very tasty sausage.

Grandma and myself will be there, bringing up the rear no doubt.
