We had a brilliant time. My steaming red wine hangover and 4 hours of sleep saw me retire after 3 very enjoyable laps (I know… but an old mate lives just down the road and Friday night turned into Saturday morning).
I really loved the route. Garmin reckoned I managed 52kph on the grassy downhill after the singletrack. Not bad on a rigid!! Brilliant atmosphere as usual. And I won the cider in the raffle. Which was nice.
DrP – thank you for the Cher on the start of my third lap. It was the high point for me.
Really looking forward to 2025. Only 25 mins from home…
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI’ll be there with 3 others. On my old Ramin 3+ with 32×19 i think.
See you there!
specialisthoprockerFree MemberJust spotted these: https://tacticalworldstore.co.uk/products/tws-indestructible-tactical-glove?variant=41780633174207
Love the idea of riding with secateurs! Pr maybe some boudicca style swords on my front hub…
specialisthoprockerFree MemberThanks. I was looking at the MT500 and suspected that may be he case. I’ll avoid for now!
specialisthoprockerFree MemberProblem with the ‘tactical’ gloves is they seem to be designed to protect the palm and allow breathability for the back.
Might get a pair of leather gloves and try not to look like a murderer.
1specialisthoprockerFree MemberUnfortunately my ego is too fragile to handle the ridicule I’ll get from my riding buddies if I get handguards. But thanks, good suggestion despite my vamity.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberAlways been a nightmare for me. I’m 6′ and 40″ chest with a 35″ waist. You’d think pretty average. I have M, L, XL in their stuff and it all fits.
I even sent a set of trousers back to them to check once because i was so confused. Apparently it was me that didn’t understand that the ‘Singletrack trousers were for downhill, which is why they were far larger than the Singletrack shorts I bought’!
At which point i gave up and went elsewhere.
1specialisthoprockerFree MemberBloody hell, they’re not actually going to eventually release the 60mm (or now 55mm and 70mm) stem they’ve been teasing me with for 2 years, are they?!?
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI use a Carrera Intercity around London. It has hydraulic discs and it’s lighter but bigger than a Brompton. I think it is great. A real pocket rocket!
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI had an Alpkit Lumo once that did this. I don’t think they were made to last sadly! I suspect the residue from breath degrades them from the inside. I didn’t get much use out of it before I gave up on it after a few uncomfortable nights.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberYup, Ramin 3+ going strong. Entered SSUK 24 for a giggle seeing as it is down south this year.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberThe Shwalbe G-Ones say they’re 50mm but they’re closer to 47.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberLat year I asked for a price on a Camino frame + fork + wheels + headset + stem. The price was about the same as the fully built Camino flat bar version. So i very nearly bought that to sell the bits to help fund my build. But in the end i was tempted by a NP Digger at a knock-down price.
Still fancy a Camino though…
1specialisthoprockerFree MemberYup, i think so. Choose camera backup in OneDrive settings in the app. It should back up all photos to a folder in OneDrive. I use this for similar reasons. All my photos from the work phone go straight to this folder so i can see them on my PC
specialisthoprockerFree MemberAs above, get on http://Www.trees.org.uk
If you want a report on the tree then you’ll need a consultant (I’m on the list…), if you want a verbal opinion then an arborist (tree surgeon/contractor) is likely to help, but they’ll also (probably) be quoting for the work so may not be so keen to come over and offer free advice if there’s no work required. But we’re mostly a nice bunch in the tree industry so we’ll try to help if we can.
1specialisthoprockerFree MemberWhat lifestyle changes have you made? I’ve been going since April 2020 and I’m certainly not that far along. I’d say maybe 50% in my normal life, and about 5% as far as any cardio activity is concerned!
Cut and paste from an email I sent to another sufferer… The things I have found that have helped:
– Balancing my nervous system! I found that my battery ran down very quickly through everyday stress triggering my sympathetic nervous system. I’ve always been quite ‘on it’ and I wasn’t letting my parasympathetic nervous system soothe me back down (because I’d never really needed it!). The NHS course demonstrated how this really affected people with a CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and taught me the basics of meditation. I used the HEadspace app and now just try to find 20-30 minutes as many times a week as I can to meditate. It has really helped.– Avoid stressful situations. For me socialising in big groups was actually stressful, so I tried to meet friends individually.– Get the best sleep you can. Do everything you can to prioritise sleep.– Avoid alcohol and certainly excessive alcohol. Even a couple of beers can bugger up a night’s sleep or lead you into running the battery down further than you want.– If you want to exercise, start very slowly and find your level. The level may well be different on different days, so be prepared for a crash! To be honest I wish I hadn’t tried anything for at least a year after infection. It took me a long while to accept that I wasn’t going to be able to just get over this. Eventually I bought an ebike which was awesome. It meant I could get the feeling of exercise but completely control how much effort I put in. This has helped me build a lot of stamina and resilience to the crashes. Also I started open water swimming. The cold water immersion also helps I think.– Track your health. A real game changer for me was when I bought a Garmin watch that tracked my heart rate variability and sleep, and gave me a ‘body battery’ score. It helped me read my system better. I don’t rely on it totally but it is helpful to see if you slept badly and are only running on half a tank because it stops me overdoing it.– Eat well and help your gut biome. Lots of veg, good protein, and fermented foods if possible. I also stated time restricted eating (I only eat for 10 hours and then ‘fast’ for 14). This is to help with my body getting rid of dead and broken cells (autophagy). Lots of interesting info on it at the Zoe website (https://joinzoe.com/learn/how-to-fast). In fact I’d really recommend Zoe as a good source of info on health in general.– Change your recovery mindset. When I realised that recovery was going to take years and not months I felt a weight lift. It made me focus on making incremental improvements rather than big steps.– The only supplement that I think helped at all was D-Ribose. I’m sure you can do your own research on it but I tried it when I thought the LC may be a mitochondrial issue. I think it helped a bit but I’m not on it now. bought it from this company: https://www.torqfitness.co.uk/news/d-ribose-itll-knock-your-socks– Don’t listen to the crazies! A lot of the Facebook groups are full of crazy ideas and people swearing they’ve recovered through odd, expensive, or uncomfortable regimes. I would say 98% are total bollocks. There is one programme that even requires participants to tell everyone they are 100% better even when they are not! I’ve seen this lead to a lot of disappointment. The best resources I have found are The Long Covid for Endurance Athletes FB page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/350546636055303/) and Gez Mendinger’s YT channel (https://www.youtube.com/@RUNDMC1)2specialisthoprockerFree MemberI thought I’d responded to the OP but can’t see my post, so here is the gist.
Had LC since March 2020. Recovery has been slow but consistent. I’ve made lots of lifestyle changes.
I’m now about 95% in day-to-day life and around 75-80% in my athletic life.
I’m more hopeful now that I’ll get back to ‘normal’ than i was before. But it won’t be for another couple of years.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberMy mate Ellen has sorted us out the last few times: https://www.evolvemortgageadvice.co.uk/
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI’d second that. It’s mucky when wet. Much better on a long dry June/July day when all the coffee and cake stops are open.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI have a 2023 digger with the rigid carbon fork. Deffo 12×100 on mine.
I can’t see the 2020 model year in the Nukeproof Archive but the 2021 says 12×100 also:
https://nukeproof.com/products/2021-digger
I’d be surprised if a rigid fork is 15×100 but I’m no expert.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI’ve used Alite Corsa with lids, Elite Fly, And CB Podium Dirt.
The Podium Dirt are my fave
specialisthoprockerFree MemberTake a look at the Zefal RS75 Deflector. I use one and it is fine, cheap, and made in France (ie. not China…).
I also used their FM20 front. For a tenner it is a bargain!
1specialisthoprockerFree MemberWe asked the kids what they wanted:
- Smoked salmon and scamble eggs
- Avocado and mozzarella
- Mussels
- Roast lamb with triple Yorkshires
I’m stuffed. I spent all of Saturday cooking curry for the outlaws who are arriving in the morning…
Merry Christmas!
specialisthoprockerFree MemberNot had great experiences here. I won’t go into the details, but i think i was being reasonable and i didn’t come away satisfied and it changed my appreciation of the brand.
10specialisthoprockerFree MemberStopped at the brewery on the way home last night. It was hard leaving the log burner ..
specialisthoprockerFree MemberSee if your local library uses the Borrowbox app. It is possible to download the entire audiobook and play on a free app like Sirin. The book is essentially yours until you delete it. I use this a lot and it works well.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI’ve got a medium pair. I’m 34″ waist and 32″ leg. They fit fine. The waist has belt loops in case you are worried. The legs are a tiny bit short but they don’t seem to ride up so not a problem. Not much room for pads. Probably not best with a bulky pair.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI killed my 810 last week. I’ve just bought a new Edge Explore for £149. I mainly use it for navigation as my Fenix does activity tracking duties.
1specialisthoprockerFree MemberApparently I’ve bought one. Had the page open on my basket checkout since this morning. Just flicked onto it now and it offered me delivery. Stuck it on the Amex. Let’s see what happens!
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI’ve got a pair of teh Decathlon ones going spare. They don’t fit me well so I ended up with some Lidl ones!

Message me if you fancy. £10 inc. p&p?
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI bought my daughter an Ibanez Paul Gilbert mikro model.
She’s been playing it for 2 years now. It’s great.
You will need to put some thicker guage strings on though is it is short scale and the light strings they come with easily bend out of key.
I play it too sometimes. It’s lovely having a little neck to whizz about. I definitely think she benefitted from starting on a short scale.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberMy Pixel 6a has not yet exploded. But I do now have a nice cartoony clock to go with my Mint Sauce wallpaper.
Health Connect still doesn’t link with Garmin though. But I suspect that is more a Garmin thing.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI use the Shokz cheap ones. They’re ok. Not exactly high fidelity but then I’m not sure how you can have loud quality audio whilst also being able to hear the **** in the Range Rover trying to close pass from behind you. Also they can’t fall out your ear into the nearest bush if you hit a root.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI decided to go through their entire catalogue since UFOrb and compile a ‘best of’ because I find post UFOrb albums very hit and miss. Sadly I found a disappointing number of tunes to add to it.
Here it is (and I’m not conivnced all of these tunes deserve to be there): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6cOc0qCquQy4tcbahKFj7p?si=9f092ab668f2455c
Seen them live a couple of times recently. Best was when Alex set the intro going, walked out into the crowd (a woodland setting), lay down beside me for 5 mins, then got up a knocked out a set of all their best known stuff. Worst was when they ignored the crowd, played a bunch of stuff no-one could latch on to, and pretty much didn’t look up during the entire set.
specialisthoprockerFree MemberI’ve had to buy two for my daughters. First time i went to the school to ask the logic of the ipad over cheaper alternatives. I didn’t get a satisfactory answer. Ended up sucking it up for the sake of the kids. I think they would have been far better served with a Chromebook.
This is Surrey btw.
